A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
I personally think a set collecting the Toonami edit of Dragon Ball would be more interesting. The edited version of the fight against the Invisible Man alone would be worth it.

Have you seen that episode? how did they edit around Bulma getting her top yanked down?Dogasu wrote:I personally think a set collecting the Toonami edit of Dragon Ball would be more interesting. The edited version of the fight against the Invisible Man alone would be worth it.
Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
It's been years and years since I've seen the episode, hence the desire to rewatch the edited version. I assume they cut that part out, though.
I do remember tomato juice being a big part of the edit, though.

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
Does it really matter if it's "revisionist bullshit"?, as long as people out there, from any walk of life, enjoyed it, then the company that helped make it (Toei, FUNi, Ocean, Saban etc.) did their job. I mean the "Entertainment industry" is called the "Entertainment industry" for a reason. I for one am going to enjoy "fictional entertainment" for what it is.B wrote: I'm honestly all for this. Embrace your past and fuck the revisionist bullshit that is the Orange Bricks, and I guess every release that contains FUNimation's version of episodes 1-67.

From what I remember, they added lines about them going on a picnic before Goku grabbed them and had him throw tomato juice they had on him. Scene I heard was from the Devil princess movie, though I never saw that one.Dogasu wrote:It's been years and years since I've seen the episode, hence the desire to rewatch the edited version. On topic, don't see this happening as not a market for it.
Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
I know there are minor differences. What I really want is just to own a version containing all of the original performances such as Sabat's original Vegeta performance and Dale Kelly as the Narrator, the old intros and such. I know they replaced Kelly as the Narrator during the Cell Games on the Uncut singles. I suppose the Edited version that aired on Toonami US would be ideal as a a follow up to the RtD set. But I'd be happy to settle for the Uncut version too, as long as they included all the Recaps, NEPs and Eyecatches.LordCrumb wrote: The 'original' dub isn't on the Funimation singles. There are three dubs (with minor differences).
1. The Original TV Dub (the one that substituted Mr Satan for the H-Word)
2. The Uncut Singles Dub
3. The 'Remastered Dub' which features some changes.
Just to clarify for myself, as I am not really familiar with Toonami, we are talking about the Funimation Dub eh?
Come to think of it couldn't they include the old dubs of the movies too? It would make sense seeing as the RtD set did the same. Also wasn't there an unreleased version of Cooler's Revenge containing the Faulconer score?

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
It's an interesting idea for a collector's item, but the edited Toonami dub as aired from 1999-2003/4 isn't THAT much different from the uncut dub on the home video releases.
Yeah, some footage was cut out and different voices were used for the initial TV broadcast, but the uncut dub w/ Faulconer score track is still like 90% the same as what aired on Toonami.
The FUNi/Madman single DVDs from the early 2000's are your best bet as far as getting "that" version.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
To me it does. The Orange Bricks are filled with added or redone lines that weren't apart of the original Toonami broadcast or even on the single disc releases. Hell, "Season 3" had Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin completely redubbed but left Schemmel's then-Goku performance. It's a frankenstein project of the highest order.Kakacarrottop wrote:Does it really matter if it's "revisionist bullshit"?

Most if not all FUNimation/Toonami fans have called it a day once they got the Orange Bricks as per some have said "it's like watching back then" so those same fans couldn't careless for a Toonami RtD-edition.
And if there's something that they owe me it's DRAGON BOX: THE MOVIES!!

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
The original broadcast version still does exist, i mean surely someone's parents taped it onto VHS back in the day for them after school or in the morning and can digitally transfer it, so i don't really see the problem for people who want to relive childhoods or who want a more coherent 1999 dub. As for the Orange Brick Season 3 set being a 'frankenstein' entity, well there's still the Kai dub for people who want a consistent and better acted English dub of the Namek arc. The thing is, i think FUNi don't want to release anything that will make their "in-house" (read semi-pro) actors look bad (eg Season 3 how it originally was.) I mean they'll gladly release the highly butchered/censored original English DBZ dub featuring the Ocean cast for a quick nostalgia buck though.B wrote:To me it does. Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
Funimation redubbed it because they realized how terrible it sounded. Which is probably the same reason it was never and will never be released on DVD.
Early Christopher Sabat in particular is just pure comedy and only gets worse with age. You just can't take it seriously with dialogue like this, and screams like this.
Honestly I find it ridiculous that despite there being so much unreleased material still out there people want yet another slight variation of an already released Funimation dub.

There is nostalgia and the fact that it runs up against the ocean dub much better

I'm definitely not saying it's impossible to find DBZ dub episodes 68-276 in single form if you look hard enough, but the idea that what's on the Orange Bricks is what aired on TV is patently false.Kakacarrottop wrote:stuff

They don't claim to be that. They just claim to be a 'remastered' English version of the show. The dub on that box set is just a typical mediocre dub by the budget dubbing studio FUNimation aimed at the sheeple who attack any other Dragon Ball related dub that doesn't feature their in-house "talent".B wrote:I'm definitely not saying it's impossible to find DBZ dub episodes 68-276 in single form if you look hard enough, but the idea that what's on the Orange Bricks is what aired on TV is patently false.Kakacarrottop wrote:stuff

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
People are saying that it's not different enough from the uncut version they have now, but the mere fact that it's different at all is what matters because it would pick up right where Rock the Dragon left off. It would be a seamless transition for people who already own that set. And they could house it in similar packaging to the RTD set to set it apart from their "standard" uncut Blu-rays and Orange Bricks at least visually. The only thing that I can't really foresee is the episode count/how they would split it up if necessary.
Also, anybody saying that they'd rather have the uncut footage like on the singles instead of the edited version should read my previous post about that. It has to do with NEPs for condensed episodes. The uncut versions of those episodes will not work for releasing NEPs, so the only way to pull it all off faithfully is to release the edited footage.

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
Most American DBZ fans seem to hate watching things edited anyways since they all seem to hated Kai on CW and Nick Toons a few years back. I also remember fans wanted uncut episodes of the Saiyan saga and the first half of the Namek saga for the longest time until Ultimate Uncut came out in 2005.

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
The Japanese DragonBox sets had a bonus feature that showed off some of the more ridiculous edits made in the early days of the FUNimation dub as still frames. I'd be interested in seeing some of the digital edits and the process that went behind them as a bonus feature on a domestic release - particularly ones like Krillin's impalement, or again, tomato juice (or better, Mad Cow) - but a whole set? No thank you.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
"YES, Dragon Ball Z is finally going to be available uncut from the very beginning!"
2015:
"FUNIMATION, WHERE IS THE EDITED VERSION OF DRAGON BALL Z???"
This is a super obscure request.

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
^Indeed it is. I remember during the early to mid 2000's, DBZ fans on the web always bought the episodes uncut and I rarely see people bought them edited unless they had strict parents or don't like seeing a tiny drop of blood. I do admit that I did bought a few episodes of DBZ edited on VHS because they were cheaper and I didn't know about the bootleg tapes at the time.

Re: A RTD-style DVD set with the Original Toonami Edited dub
I know this whole idea sounds rather counterintuitive as far the uncut version goes, but I just want the lost Dale Kelly narration and this is the most complete, faithful way to do it.
