Is just me or the GIFs make this thread pretty slow?

When they're out in the open, they really bog down the page, but if they're in Spoiler tags (as they have been), it's a good idea to just leave the tab open for a few minutes until it finishes loading the page. That's what I usually do (except on mobile, where I try to avoid the thread completely so as to not lag up my tablet).

I always thought these cel-based scaling effects looked really cool:

This episode had a few of them. I'd love to know how they achieved these before they started digitally manipulating cels (like in a few shots in Z movie 12). Did they have the Cell cels (heh) on a glass pane and zoomed the Gohan background in while keeping Cell's legs stationary, or perhaps Cell's legs are actually moving with the camera and the background is stationary? Or maybe I'm completely wrong and they used old computer software to add the cels of Cells legs in post, like in movie 12?

These two turned out excellent, in my opinion. I think I did the Gogeta one a few years ago and posted it earlier in the thread, but it was missing some frames, and the color palette was optimized by hand for both of these, so that they look smoother, though it takes longer to pick the necessary colors by hand, but the result is worth it.[/spoiler]

This color changing is fake, right? I don't remeber it from the movie. At least, not from the Blu-ray version I have.

Goku vs. Freeza:



This is the Kai version of the same parts of the fight that were reanimated for the new version of RoF. It's very slightly trimmed in a few spots to keep the size as low as I could.

This is the best punch I've ever seen! You should make a video comparing both versions, Kai and FnF.

If anyone's curious why I'm doing so many 640x480 GIFs, it's because they're simple animations that are easy to optimize (by cutting out static backgrounds from each frame and whatnot), so I can get away with them still being under 1MB.

I still like to keep my GIFs' filesizes down for the sake of not bogging down the page.

Huge GIF from movie 5. Filesize is only 170kb, because I optimized it by chopping out all of the repeated frames of Goku's main body, so that only the hair and the dust clouds animate.

I haven't done many GIFs lately because I've been focusing on camera pans for a while.

Very awesome! I love that cut of animation. It was Last House, so was it possibly Shida? I can't really make out his style until the Namek arc (same with Yamamuro under Shindou's supervision). I still have trouble telling Taichirou Ohara's style from Uchiyama's as well, since it's very similar, at least in stills (Ohara's animation is better than Uchiyama's).

I just looked up the credits for that episode, and Uchiyama apparently provided no key animation. I'm not too well versed in every single key animators' style, and the site's guide isn't that specific, as it only covers the general supervisors.

Yeah, that scene definitely looks like early Shida to me. Even though his art style wasn't particularly distinct at this time, his movement was still pretty easy to spot.
