Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
This is my first topic, so forgive me if I miss any sort of mark here, but I'd like to know what your complete collection looks like. However, this MUST be a practical list. For example, if you can't reasonably afford the Dragon Boxes, DON'T list them here. (After some consideration, I realized that this will be incredibly boring if it's entirely practical, so feel free to list your hypothetical dream list as well.) There is no limit to the type of item you can list here, it can be anything from video games to manga, from the tv show to a rare coloring book, even fan works. Anything works, as long as it's Dragon Ball related.
Knowing your favorite Dub would also be interesting, since some Dubs change the tone so much that it's practically a whole different show.
Not only would I like you to list your collection goal (Or if you've already completed it, your collection), please also to give reasons for why you want it, and if there are alternatives, why you chose them. For example, why did you choose the Goku napkins over Vegeta toilet paper? If you have a unique item, feel free to share pictures as well.
The reason I wanted to make this topic is two-fold. The first reason is to get a sense of the tastes of my fellow Kanzenshuu members. I'm fairly new and don't have many connections, and this would certainly help me get to know some of the more active members assuming this topic is worth anything. The second, and potentially more lasting purpose, is to have a place to expose fans, both new and old, to the amazing variety of preferences and the long-lasting dedication of some of the fans. Maybe it could even sway some of their own choices.
Either way, I hope that my first topic is as well thought-out as I hope it is (at the time of my writing this, I'm on the verge of passing out from exhaustion). Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to respond.

I suppose this is a nice tie-in to the thread for showing off your stuff. I'll post my list here hopefully soon, once I get the time.

I plan to write up something tomorrow. Right now my Dane won't let me sleep, but I'm too tired to write a comprehensive list.Anime Kitten wrote:I suppose this is a nice tie-in to the thread for showing off your stuff. I'll post my list here hopefully soon, once I get the time.

Re: Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
I haven't been able to get a job because I'm a shoddy driver because I can't get a ride anywhere, and any money I'm gifted I'm putting back for an eventual vehicle, so I haven't collected much yet but as of now, my goal is:
Dragon Ball VIZBIGS 1-5: My only real factor in this decision was a good price/paper ratio, and they're the only good b&w release to be released in English.
Dragon Ball Z VIZBIGS 1-9: Reasons listed above
Jaco the Galactic Patrolman
Dragon Ball - Blue Bricks
Dragon Ball Z - Blu ray Season Sets: While it would be easy to find old copies of the singles, it would be more expensive with shipping costs, it would take a lot longer to collect them all, just not worth it for me. I won't buy the Orange Bricks because I made the mistake of buying the first one for my cousin, I was so astounded by how bad it really was that, even though I could practically live with it, I just can't make myself. Blu rays have better picture, better audio, for about the same price as the Orange Bricks
Dragon Ball Z Double Features (and Triple Feature) - Blu ray: Best versions of the movies and Z Specials available in English
Dragon Ball GT - Green Bricks: Only reason for this one is that it contains English dub with the JP score. I don't watch the dub anyway, but some people I know would, and I wouldn't torture anyone with the other score.
Dragon Ball Movies Complete Collection
Dragon Ball Super - Blu ray: Obviously, this isn't out in English yet, but I can't not get it, so it makes the list anyway.
As you may be able to tell, mine is a pretty boring list, so I'm counting on someone else to have something more creative.

Re: Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
My realistic collection
DBZ Funimation Dragonboxes (Got) Best release of any of the three series.
DBGT Complete series green brick. A decent release of GT
Those two big sets Madman has for the original series. The masters may be dirty, but no grain removal is a plus.
Kai on DVD. A bit cheaper than BR and I'm bored with Kai apart from how good the dub is.
Those movie packs with the awful remasters on them. They're in 16:9 and offer the dub for when I feel like watching it. Still wish they weren't so saturated.
A few old DBZ games like Budokai 3 and Super Butoden 2. I like retro gaming and I like DB, so the two mix well.
DBZ Level 1.1 and 1.2 A pretty solid release with the Nathan Johnson score for when I feel like it
Pioneer's Movie 1-3 DVD set. The original English dubs for the first three movies are just really solid dubs, especially for back then.
Vizbig manga. If I'm a DB fan I might as well own the manga.
An eventual western DVD release of Super. I'd get it on BR unless Funimation pulls some "$50 for three eps" thing.
My ideal collection would be
Funimation Dragonboxes
The Japanese Dragonboxes. Mainly as a crown jewel "look at what I've got ego boost/I can't believe I got that sense of self satisfaction. Also I'm trying to learn Japanese, so I'd hope I could watch them legit one day.
Kanzenban manga. If you're gonna own the manga you might as well own it in style.
DBZ Level 1.1 and 1.2
Madman DB Set
Rock The Dragon set. More of a post 99 Funi fan, but it wouldn't hurt owning this.
Pioneer Ocean 1-3. I've heard the RTD sets have an edited version of Movie 1.
Kai on Blu Ray
The DBZ movie double feature Blu Rays. If a better 16:9 remaster ever comes out in the west I'l pick that.
All Daizenshuus, Chouzenshuus and GT PFs. More of a collection booster like the Japanese box sets
Super on Blu Ray
A good chunk of the video games. More money means more video games.
GT Green brick complete set.
If I had that I would probably never need to buy something DB related again until something new comes along

Re: Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
My preferred version is the FUNimation dub. The original Japanese is my immediate second choice.
Now for my collection:
Manga
Single issue of the Dragon Ball Z manga with the first two chapters
Anime
Dragon Ball Z: The Best of Goku DVD
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Uncut Version DVD
Dragon Ball GT Season 1 Green Brick
Dragon Ball GT Season 2 Green Brick
Video games
Game Boy Advance:
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku
Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors
Dragon Ball GT: Transformation
PlayStation 2:
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Dragon Ball Z: Sagas
Xbox 360:
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast
Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2
Xbox One:
Dragon Ball: Xenoverse
Figures & Toys
Shodo Dragon Ball Super Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku
Shodo Dragon Ball Super Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta
(Unlicensed) LEBQ Dragon Ball Z Set
Wanted List (by priority)
Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 - Hoping to pre-order soon; it's shaping up to be a good game, and I was gonna get it anyway.
Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World - Looking into; evidently it's essentially B3 with more characters.
Shodo Dragon Ball Super Golden Freeza - Considering; to complete the set and so I can have a Freeza figure.
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' DVD or Blu-ray - Wanted, but I can't find it cheap.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - Hoping to get someday; for obvious reasons.
Dragon Ball Z manga - May consider; because it's the manga! This version over the VizBigs because the spine art.
And I think that's all. Pretty small, though.

Any particular reason you're choosing to buy the DVD releases? Blu-rays aren't that much more expensive, at least not in the US.ringworm128 wrote:My realistic collection

Kikuchi. Haven't heard much Faulconer, but I can almost feel the nostalgia in what I have heard.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Is this with the Kikuchi score, or the Faulconer?

Re: Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
Faulconer's score is unpalatable for me. I don't have anything against it, but the cheap, synthesizer-ey style turns me off to whatever's happening. It's also a problem I had with Sumitomo's Boo Kai.Anime Kitten wrote:Kikuchi. This being said, if anyone does like Faulconer, feel free to include it in your list.

If you like the dub score, the season sets ruined everything. You now have the choice of watching an awful looking picture or spending time/money hunting down dozens of old singles.

Honestly, the picture quality isn't that hard to get used to. I won't go saying it's good, because it isn't, but adapting was easy enough for me.ringworm128 wrote:If you like the dub score, the season sets ruined everything. I only have the anime. I want to read the manga, but I want a faithful version with all the properly colored pages. The Soshuhen Digest Edition in English would probably be perfect for me, but a boy can dream
Favorite Dub: I have seen the uncut version of Dragon Ball Z with the American dub + score, but Super is allowing me to appreciate the Japanese seiyuus so I may watch it in Japanese in due time. I'm currently watching Dragon Ball and will get back to watching Dragon Ball GT in due time. (No rush!)

Firstly, get the Viz Manga if you want to read it. It's not perfect, but the censorship isn't (usually) jarring, and the VIZBIGS only have a little grayscaling, and we're never getting a digest or a Kanzenban.
Secondly, the Dragon Ball single DVDs in Japan are pretty cheap if you buy them gradually, the only difference between them and the DBoxes is a slightly worse audio quality, but the video is identical.

Re: Your Complete Dragon Ball Collection
I'll probably read it through the Vizbigs. And if I ever buy the Dragon Boxes, it will in their full splendor. Nothing less for my collection! However, they are not a pressing matter for me at the moment since I have no disposable income.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Very interesting list. I have 2 suggestions.

We do not collect DVDs to pick fights or to impress girls who will say "Oh beefcake, you're so strong, I want you." We collect DVDs with the sole purpose of improving our collection!Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Darn, and here I was trying to eliminate the competition.clutchins wrote:I'll probably read it through the Vizbigs. In all seriousness, I'm never getting the Boxes, it's just too much. However, if we ever get broadcast audio, even if it were put over the Orange Bricks, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. To me, audio > video, which is why I'm fine with buying the Z Blu-Rays, since Funimation cleaned up the audio so well.
