Vegeta's hairstyle

So we know Vegeta and his iconic standing-up hairstyle with the widow peak. But to ask some of you who know anime and manga better than I do, was this a common late 80s anime hairstyle of something?
I've started watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure recently, unfamiliar completely with the series and noticed the character Wang Chan has this exact same hairstyle, and the first arc of JoJo actually predates the Z portion of Dragon Ball and now thinking about it, I swear I've seen that specific hairstyle somewhere else too in Japanese media from that era. Toriyama would often draw from trends of the time so this has to be something that was present in various places.

Jokers hair shape in the Arkham games reminds me of Vegeta's hairstyle. Just wanted to say that.
