Madman singles vs FUNi singles comparison?
Does anyone know how much better the Madman singles are compared to their FUNi counterparts?
I hear that the Madman singles are sharper and clearer, while the FUNi ones have some macroblocking going on in some of the EPs. Also, is it true that the Madman ones have more NEPs and recaps? Last but not least, does anyone have any comparison pics?

It depends on what 'Singles' you mean. There is a difference between the PIONEER and MADMAN 'Saiyan' and 'Namek' Saga sets... the rest are the same aside from Menu and Language (Madman did not regularly include the Japanese audio until Volume 4.6 - Junior Division).
The picture quality difference just really comes down to PAL vs NTSC.

I can only speak to the Madman vs Funimation singles for Dragon Ball, as I have a mix of the two. From what I remember, the default picture size for the Madman singles is larger than the Funimation ones, though both are in 4:3. The Funimation singles have white subtitles, while the Madman ones have yellow subtitles. The packaging definitely goes to Madman. The Funimation singles are in black DVD cases with a folding book inside that lists all the episodes; there is one DVD holder on each side of the DVD case to fit two DVDs. The Madman case is clear, so that the3 episode list is on the opposite side of the cover without a folded book; there is also a moveable DVD holder attached. As for picture quality, I don't recall if I ever saw a difference.

The madman singles in general have better encoding, resulting in less macroblocking.
However, for the Ginyu saga singles, Madman's singles don't include the Japanese track.

The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

I asked this question in another thread...but it was completely ignored.
Something I forgot to ask last time... is the bitrate the same between the two releases?Danfun64 wrote:I'm sure the R4 Madmen Dragon Ball GT singles look better than the R1 GT singles...but what about the audio? Does the audio have better compression? Also, I heard that at least the R1 Dragon Ball GT singles have the dub audio in 5.1 surround. Do the R4 Dragon Ball GT singles also have a 5.1 dub track?

No the Region 4 GT Singles are Dolby Digital 2.0 (English and Japanese).
Are you sure about the US singles being 5.1?

Unfortunately i'm not sure. I don't own them myself, but I feel like the source I got that info from is trustworthy.

They are not 5.1. Only the special, "A Hero's Legacy" has 5.1 Surround as an option for the English audio track.

Yeah I thought it would be a bit odd for them to have 5.1
