1st episode of Mahoujin Guru Guru aired yesterday, it is very funny fantasy anime in Dragon Half/Slayers style, with lots of parodies, such as first Dragon Quest, i think they also make parody of 1st eyecatch from Dragon Ball

Not necessarily. I've seen this spinning umbrella trick countless times in anime so I don't think it's a direct reference to Dragon Ball.

I reached episode 36 of the 1994 series and this you could say is too good to not be an obvious reference to Dragon Ball. They even throw in a beam hitting the crowd.





But luckily this is a gag series so nobody died .


And for added bonus, the main hero is called a carrot by one of the characters who is an enemy in disguise.


The final enemy not only is he an old man, but he also transforms to a giant monster.

The DBZ episode first aired in Japan in June 15th, 1994.

Mahoujin Guruguru first started in October 13th, 1994 and the tournament episode was no. 36, so yeah, they had plenty of time for that.
