Who could be Masako Nozawa’s successor?

Post by DragonBallFoodie » Thu Aug 03, 2017 4:43 pm

I believe Masako Nozawa is awesome as the voice of Goku and his sons Gohan and Goten (and his dad and evil version). But a time will come when someone else will take on that role. So it’s got to be someone special. Who do you think could be her successor?

I nominate the following:

Rie Kugimiya
General resume of roles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL6wgRNtkcc
Kagura (Gin Tama) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYVD_DTCPuQ
Alphone Elric (Mull Metal Alchemist) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23A8XLIpeAY

Megumi Ogata – the voice of Yugi Moto
General resume of roles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVjZ9arztck
Yugi Moto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX16N3UUDBg

Rica Matsumoto
Brief resume of roles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qFL-N4HI5I
Ash (Pokemon) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpYM13qP0nM

I picked voice actresses who had played young boys in anime, like what Nozawa had done.

If you can think of any other voice actors/actresses who could work out, feel welcome to list them.

Romi Paku'd be an excellent replacement, since she's very talented.

If they ever decide to choose a man for Goku, they could go with Kappei Yamaguchi or Nobuyuki Hiyama. I'm sure the detractors of the Japanese version would start to decrease in numbers if a man played Goku.

I feel like It needs to be woman, one that's older and experienced but not to old. I wouldn't mind If they had different actors for all members of the Son family.
Here's what I would do:
Goku: Romi Park
Gohan: Megumi Ogata
Goten: Akiko Yajima

Akiko Yajima (Shin-chan) sounds like a good choice. Not too sure about the others.

Romi Paku could be a great choice.

What would the point of that to be if they would risk to piss off the japanese fans who are their main audience?!
Akira Toriyama chose a woman for the role. It must be one.

I imagine Toei Animation and company will employ an experienced actor. In that case, the best choice is Park Romi, who has the range to pull off all of Nozawa Masako's roles. There's also a slim chance of hiring a young unknown, which will make it easier for them to voice Gokuu for sixty-plus years.

Does it really need to be a woman? I'm sure the Japanese fans would be okay if a man was chosen.

No one. After Nozawa retired or passes away, Dragonball should come to an end. For stuff like the videogames they now have millions of sound clips of Goku from old episodes or videogames they can re-use.

Japan would never recast an iconic character as Goku. It is blasphemy in Japan especially for the main character. When Nozawa dies, Dragonball dies with her. Toriyama would probably agree as well.

They have recasted iconic characters. They recasted Kenshiro.

What makes you think Kugimiya would be a good choice especially for Goku. Sure Goku has a higher voice then the other males on the show but Nozawa's voice is still on the deeper side for women voicing males. The only male role I've heard from Kugimiya is Al, can she go lower than that?

I don't really think that means adult Goku must be voiced by a woman. The best actor who best captures the essence of Goku, be it a woman or a man, should be chosen. As displayed when Funimation took the dub in house, trying to imitate the original voices instead of putting their own take on the characters is quite possibly the worst route they could go.

DB isn't going anywhere because of one death. Weather it's Nozawa or even Toriyama, DB is too big of a franchise for multiple companies for them to pull the plug on.

In terms of who will replace her, they probably already picked someone with Nozawa and even Toriyama's help.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Did Akira Kamiya retire from acting? I don't think he voiced Kenshiro gain after the 80's .

No, Kamiya still does voicing acting on occasion. He either left the role because it was too hard for him, he wasn't being paid to his liking or the author hated him. I think I remember hearing something about the author hating him, so that one might be the case?

Either Romi Park and Megumi Ogata could play an awesome adult Goku.

Super will probably end after 5-6 years, by then Nozawa will be nearly 90. It's time for it to end.

Dragonball is not a franchise that needs an anime to go on forever. The merch will go on just like it had since the early 2000's

Since those screams can hurt someone's throat, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to recast Kamiya with another actor.

Going by the idea of different people (male or female) voicing Goku, Gohan, and Goten:

Goku

(F) Rie Kugimiya or Romi Park

(M) Nobuyuki Hiyama or Kappei Yamaguchi

Gohan

(F) Chiharu Tezuka or Mie Sonozaki

(M) Jun Fukuyama or Toshiyuki Morikawa

Goten

(F) Megumi Han or Kaori Nazuka or Ayako Kawasumi

(M) Yasunori Matsumoto or Yuji Ueda
