Dragon Ball VHS Question

Post by 2004 » Tue Oct 31, 2017 11:27 pm

I've read through this site and several others, but don't seem to get a finite answer. According to http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Origin ... o_Releases, Dragon Ball General Blue - The Pirate Cave (uncut) WAS released on VHS, having been created somewhere in this universe. Though contrarily, there are numerous sources saying otherwise- that it was not released, along with episodes 52-54.

Does anyone actually know (own a copy, confirmed with the company that distributed Dragon Ball films, etc.) what the situation is for this??? So you know, the VHS case supposedly looks like this:

Thank you dearly,

No, why would it? It's fiction. The strength of the characters is not possible to reach in reality.
I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

The old Funimation VHS cases always looked like such massive piles of shit.

Of course they do. They just used screen shots. They put such little effort into it.

I could have sworn on one of my old Yu Yu Hakusho or DBZ Tapes that I got an ad with that cover. I'm surprised they never released those episode on VHS.

Better a screen shot than an original lying cover I say. Back in 92 my old man bought a video of the Fantastic Four thinking it was the 60s cartoon as it had Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and Thing on it. We pop it in, and it's the 70s cartoon that didn't have the Human Torch. Also recall two of the X-Men dvds have Nightcrawler on the cover, despite his appearing in only two episodes, and one of those wasn't on one of those dvds.

On-topic, was kinda broke at the time, so didn't get those DB videos, so can't answer the question, and it's been so long forgot how they looked.

Unfortunetly I do not, I gave them away once I got the orange bricks.

If you're really serious about finding that ad, I'd say start buying up sealed Yu Yu Hakusho VHS tapes. They shouldn't be very expensive.
This is the episode of when Gokuh enrages himself after Freezer talk shit about Kuririn

Funny you mention this, I actually had seen the commercial for it recently, on a different Dragon Ball tape; I'm just curious, anyone reading this, do you have any knowledge of this whole situation (where the film is, if it's out there)..? Like I just mentioned I just saw a commercial for it, so I'm assuming that that wasn't a fib- that it actually was released...

I just googled it, and I found nothing.
Looking for these rare items/information:

Any information or recordings pertaining to Dragon Ball Z's syndicated run on WAWB
Any information regarding the stations that carried the origin Dragon Ball in the USA
Dragon Box (any deals would be nice)
Shonen Jumps with Dragon Ball in them

Gokaiblue, do you think though that they (Madman, Funimation, whoever made it) would have a commercial saying, "General Blue: The Pirates Cave on VHS out now!" and not actually release it? I truly mean this question, I apologize if it sounds condescending because that isn't my intent (ever, really...).

Vaporware does exist, but I see your point. I agree, it is frustrating that I can't find anything on it (reminds me of my own research on DBZ's time on then local WB affiliate WAWB now CW afiiliate WUPV). Some things just get lost to time, though it's odd that this VHS would be one of them

I'm in a similar position where I'm trying to track down if whether a 4th tape of the Legend of Zelda cartoon exists or not. Supposedly it was only available through a mail-in order with Nesquik, along with two other Super Mario Bros Super Show tapes (which those do exist). My advice would be to try digging through the internet archives (the wayback machine) and looking at old fan sites and online stores pages that no longer exist, or Funimation's old Z store pages to see if there were any listings. I do remember seeing them selling tapes on there, but that was back when the Ginyu and Freeza tapes were just coming out and I think it was another year or two before they started releasing the older DB episodes.

Another, less reliable, method would be to start hitting up different sub-reddits. Don't just focus on DB specific ones, but branch out to ones that focus on vhs collecting and trading, 80's & 90's cartoons/anime, retro pop culture, etc. Good luck, hope you do find something. I know how maddening it can be not knowing if something is out there or not.
