DO NOT buy the movies on Amazon Video (Japan)
So today I noticed that the 13 Dragon Ball Z movies were streaming in HD on Amazon.
"What's this? An all new remaster?" I pondered to myself. Well, let's just cut to the chase. It's the exact Dragon Box footage with some upscale and DNR.
Here are some comparison shots of the movie Dead Zone:

Leave your comments and opinions below. Am I right or full of it? Or both perhaps?
But either way, I posted this in the hopes that anyone considering buying or even renting the streams would reconsider after seeing this atrocity.

Was the hate for Kai largely unjustified?

The story of Kai's production is far more interesting than the actual product.

Yikes, it looks like FUNimation's green brick footage.

Definitely filtered in some way; look at those halos around the edges!

sd upscale to fit hd (screenshot as i don't have the straight image) it's almost the same resolution as i surely crop 4 pixels
it's the same footage with just a simple upscaled to HD resolution , Toei just use DNR like they love doing on their HD (Saint seiya and co)
haloing was already on the sd footage if you carefully watch i think that the DNR make it more visible as the line aren't even sharpener than sd
it is worth talking about that cause it show 2 things
- Toei could use Funimation True HD transfer but choose to keep their use (upscaling with DNR) so they don't care about dragon ball quality
- If they truly planned to release the series here what you'll get as movies are cheapest to restore than 508 episodes if i correctly count them

Thanks for the warning, this probably explains why Movie 10 looked the way it did on Toei's 60th Anniversary YouTube channel:Arian wrote:So today I noticed that the 13 Dragon Ball Z movies were streaming in HD on Amazon.

Seems to be the same upscale that aired on Animax a few years ago, and that's been available on iTunes Japan for a while, too.Arian wrote:So today I noticed that the 13 Dragon Ball Z movies were streaming in HD on Amazon.
