Toriyama returning - main reason for Kai creation?
I was wondering, since when Toriyama decided to return to DB franchise? Was it before or after 1st series of Kai? if it was after Cell Saga Kai, it might explain why Final Chapters were made, Kai flopped in Japan, but if new anime series was coming, Toei decided to made Kai Buu Saga after all

In 2011 Toei decided to make a new animated movie (BOG) and asked Toriyama what he thought about it however, they didn't ask him to take part in it. After looking at what they had and remembering how bad Evolution turned out, he decided to become the movie's writer so from there he got back into DB.
Kai was originally made because back in 2008 Toei couldn't get Toriyama to write them a new show so they decided to take what they had and market it as a new show. Kai's Buu arc had nothing to do with Toriyama but the success Kai had in the international markets so it was originally made just for them but when Toriko didn't do so good they decided to air it in Japan while cutting out more content.

Toriyama helped a bit with that because it was a one time thing and at that point Evolution hadn't released which is what really upset Toriyama.mute_proxy wrote:What about the 2008 special about Goku and friends?
