Your Favorite Scene in the Franchise

Post by omaro34 » Thu Jul 05, 2018 12:27 pm

Post your favorite scene of all time. Name which dub and which scene.

For me it's when Gohan had a look of shock in his face and there is a bird flying after 16's head was crushed. Gohan snaps and turns super saiyan 2. Japanese dub. The song that plays is pure epic and fits the scene perfectly.
"Kami is the Morgan Freeman of Dragonball Z"

Goku reuniting with his grandpa in Dragon Ball. That was very emotional and cute.

Also Goku beating Nappa in the saiyan saga. Pure badass.

Goku using the Flying Nimbus to get to West City. In the dub, the narrator comes in and says "Having been reunited with his old friend the Flying Nimbus, Goku continues his journey into the unknown. And with every mountain he passes, every ocean he crosses, Goku finds continual delight in the simple wonders of a world still very new to him".

It was this scene that made me realize what the RRA arc was all about, and for me it perfectly encapsulates why I like Kid Goku and early Dragon Ball.

The last scene of episode 101 of DB. Chills me to the bone every time.
Japanese is preferable, I think the poor scripting and acting in the Funi dub somewhat deaddens the impact. Haven't seen the Blue Water version.

Some other ones that come to mind...
  • Jackie Chun forfeiting.
  • Oolong wishing for panties.
  • Piccolo Daimao explaining Piccolo Day.
  • Goku and Piccolo getting competitive while learning to drive.
  • Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan in the Saiyan arc. Bonus points for the Ocean dub...
Actually, y'know what, just assume any scene with Piccolo that's ever been voiced by Scott McNeil is on here, that'll save a lot of time.
  • Man-Wolf's revenge against Jackie Chun.
  • The first Mafuba against Piccolo Daimao.
  • The Reverse Mafuba.
  • The introduction of Tao Pai-Pai.
  • Tao Pai-Pai going to the hotel.
  • Goku first meeting God.
  • All of the re-introductions when everyone meets up for the 23rd Tenka'ichi Budokai.
  • Piccolo's death in GT.
  • Si Xing Long sparing Pan.
  • The ending montage of GT.
  • First Super Saiyan 4 transformation.
  • First Super Saiyan 2 transformation.
  • First Super Saiyan transformation.
  • Vegetto's introduction.
  • Gogeta's introduction in GT.
  • Tao Pai-Pai realising the kid he's looking at is in fact Goku's son.
  • Tao Pai-Pai realising the man he's talking to is in fact Son Goku.
  • Piccolo yelling at Goku at the Cell Games.
  • Goku and Paikuhan being disqualified from the Afterlife Tournament.
  • Videl figuring out Gohan is Great Saiyaman.
  • Videl flying for the first time.
  • Goten flying for the first time.
  • Piccolo destroying all the cameras.
  • Piccolo killing Babidi.
  • The Z Sword breaking.
  • Goku arriving late at the party after Boo's defeat.
  • The opening few minutes of episode 289 of Z(274 in TV numbering).
  • Everyone reuniting at the tournament grounds in episode 289 of Z.
  • All of the goodbyes in the final episode of Z.
  • Piccolo and Kuririn's goodbyes in the final episode of GT.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

As many problems as the Cell arc has...the anime really nails that SSJ2 transformation scene(Japanese version of course). It rules.

That...is really hard actually. I think I can narrow it down to a few though:

Goku killing King Piccolo by tearing right through him. Either dub though I’m more familiar with FUNimation English but I like Japanese too. The entire saga did a really good job building up to this moment.

Gohan returning to the wilderness after the death of Mr. Robot, tears in his eyes but head held high. Volumes of character development. Either FUNimation English or Japanese.

Goku saves his son and proceeds to brutalize Nappa. The music, the animation...Son Goku is pissed! I prefer this one in Japanese but the redub of FUNimation and the Kai version aren’t bad.

Goku turns Super Saiyan for the first time and the following conversation with Gohan where he orders his son away because he doesn’t trust himself anymore. Either FUNimation English or Japanese though I prefer the first run of this in Japanese as opposed to the Kai.

Gohan turns Super Saiyan 2. Japanese version all the way. I simply can’t watch this scene without that music. If you put the original music to the Kai dialogue, it’s pretty epic too and I even like the first dub of it even if I could have done without the inner monologue

Gohan kills Cell. If I want to be more accurate, from the time Goku starts coaching him until the final blow. I just adore this whole scene. It’s touching, it’s exciting, it’s tension...I love all of it. Much as it’s an unpopular opinion though, I prefer this in FUNimation’s original dub and I really don’t know why. The Kai dub just doesn’t do it for me.

Goku tricks the 7 Star Dragon to save Pan. Either English or Japanese. I like this whole idea of using Goku’s family against him and Goku going full on brutal once his family is out of harm’s way.

I also have to give an honorable mention to when Tao Pai Pai realizes Gohan is Goku’s son. In any dub, it just cracks me up.

Too many to pick just one, so I'll settle for 2 from each series:

DB:
Krillin's presentation (jap)
Goku running after Krillin feeling something is wrong (jap)

DBZ:
Goku saving everybody from Nappa (jap and latin dub)
Goku's Namek landing from the senzu delivery chit chat to Vegeta freakin out after Goku destroys Recoome (jap and latin dub)

bonus: Goku turning ss (latin dub)

DBGT:
Goku going ss4 and the ending (jap and latin dub)

DBSuper:
Blue Kaioken vs Hit (jap)
Goku covered in light raping Jiren (jap)

I have several favourite scenes, actually, and choosing the best amongst them is nigh-impossible, given how they are all beautifully perfect.

- The explosive birth of the Supreme God: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1td8JHGLDUk

- Fused Zamasu begins the "celebrations" for the coming of the utopian world of Gods: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm_f6Z8ekZU

- Fused Zamasu gives a brief demonstration of his awesome physical strength: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePKOrA9kxE4

- A desperate Fused Zamasu orders the Light of Divine Justice to strike at him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25-tgJjOSvQ

Vegeta's sacrifice to take down Buu.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

OOooo I got another one.

Goku sacrificing himself against Raditz.

My first exposure to Dragon Ball was EGM covering the games in their import section and they made it sound awesome. So when I saw "Dragon Ball Z" on the TV guide for a local station, I knew I had to watch it.

It was a serialized cartoon (rare at the time), featuring wild character designs and violent hand to hand combat (even the super censored Ocean dub was still a lot more violent than most cartoons at the time). I was hooked. When the main character died in the 4th episode, I was blown away. I know death is cheap in Dragon Ball but that felt like such an incredibly ballsy and original plot point.

It's impossible for me to to just pick one scene in the entirety of Dragon Ball that is my favorite. Especially since there are entire episodes and movie/TV specials that I love from start to finish for various reasons. The best I can do is narrow it down to a selection of scenes:

- Goku reuniting with Grandpa Gohan
- Goku's angry and saddened reaction to finding Krillin dead
- Goku and Chi Chi getting married
- Goku's Kaioken times four Kamehameha against Vegeta
- Goku becoming a SSJ after Krillin is killed
- SSJ Goku killing Freeza after giving Freeza some his energy out of mercy and looking down somberly after doing the deed
- Gohan becoming a SSJ2
- Vegeta killing himself in an attempt to defeat Majin Boo
- Vegeta's "You're Number #1" speech
- Goku killing Kid Boo with the Genki Dama, while hoping Kid Boo would come back as a better person so he can fight him again
- Goku transforming into a SSJ4
- Goku sparring with an old Krillin on Kame House while a much older Roshi looked on
- Majin Boo saying he'll always be Mr Satan's friend before merging with Oob
- Piccolo saying goodbye to Gohan before dying in GT
- Goku watching over his and Vegeta's descendants fight at the Tenkaichi Budokai in the final episode of GT
- The reveal of Goku Black
- Goku Black transforming into SSJ Rose
- Goku attaining Ultra Instinct
- Goku, Freeza and #17 teaming up to eliminate Jiren
- Future Trunks becoming a SSJ after finding Future Gohan's corpse
- Goku travelling from the afterlife to save Gohan from being killed by Bojack
- Goku and Vegeta fusing to become Gogeta

There's way too many scenes to choose from. Don't know if it's my all time favorite but one scene that I really look forward to watch every time I rewatch Z, is when Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan as he sees Videl getting beat up by Spopovich. That scene gives me chills everytime.

Yeah, the entire TV Special is great, no wonder it's the best piece of work this franchise has (along with Dragon Ball Online, of course). And if you liked Bardock vs the 4 soldiers, you're gonna love Bardock vs an army.

Vegeta's respect for Goku will forever be my favourite scene. The Buu arc (hell, most of Z) felt like it was leading up to that moment. As selfish as Goku and Vegeta's face off in the arc was, it always felt like the backbone of the story. Buu got to where he was because of their actions. Their rivalry almost cost the universe. So once Vegeta accepted being inferior to Goku and respected him, they were able to finish off Buu. I might be giving the scene too much credit, but that's how I took it. It was a pivotal moment in the story.

Goku and Vegeta are still rivals now, it's not like the scene stopped that. But now it's more like "You're annoying, but we can both get stronger together" rather than "I hate you and I want to kill you."

Goku 'killing' Freeza in the manga has always been my favorite. His look of sadness and pity afterwards sells it.

Do you care about anything in this series outside of Zamasu?
