Wow, the first three series might get similar treatment? Come on Toei, you bastards, cut out the middle man and give us English subtitles on these things!

None of their releases are subtitled so these probably won't either. Are best bet is for Funimation to release them and hopefully not mess with the image like they've always done.JulieYBM wrote:Wow, the first three series will get similar treatment? July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

While I wouldn't put it past them I don't think Funimation will crop or tamper with the colours if they release their own version (and I don't see why they wouldn't do it). Much like with the Dragon Boxes I would assume their version will be the Japanese release adapted for the English-speaking (and reading for the sub purists) market. Maybe they will change the placement of the NEPs, but thats probably going to be the extent.sintzu wrote:Before we celebrate, if these are released in 4:3 and if Funimation decides to pick them up (I can't imagine why they wouldn't) then there's a chance they'll try to crop it to 16:9 so it'll be "the way it was meant to be seen".
I'm personally hoping for a faithful redub (and Geekdom said in a tweet its likely, so fingers crossed).

I'm incredibly excited about the Dragon Ball movies getting a proper HD remaster and release. But, holy fuck... that price. I'm not made of money.
Oh, and there's no way those HD remasters are coming to the West. I mean, how could market something like when FUNimation have already oversaturate the market with the continuous re-releases of the movies? And that's not even taking into consideration the prospect of Toei giving the three main anime series the same treatment.

I don't know, they love to re-release Dragon Ball as much as they can. Maybe a 20-film set when Broly comes out?Lord Beerus wrote:I'm incredibly excited about the Dragon Ball movies getting a proper HD remaster and release. But, holy fuck... that price. I'm not made of money.

That'll be a dream come true for me. At least we know there's talks about it being brought over by Funimation.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:I'm personally hoping for a faithful redub (and Geekdom said in a tweet its likely, so fingers crossed).

I couldn't find any tweet from Geekdom saying that FUNimation was planning on doing a redub. Nothing even hinting at that, I have no idea where this comment came from.sintzu wrote:That'll be a dream come true for me. He is responding to a poster saying they doubt the actors would be willing to dub the entire series Kai style.

His grammar isn't great there, but he's saying "No, a redub is not likely", not "No, a redub is likely".Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:https://mobile.twitter.com/emperorbigd/ ... 4236435456Forte224 wrote:I couldn't find any tweet from Geekdom saying that FUNimation was planning on doing a redub. I wouldnt want another redub.. it would just delay a release even longer.

No, this is just 1080p. Honestly, I'm not sure how much would be gained by scanning the film in at 4K.Hellspawn28 wrote:So are the movies really remaster in 4k?
The only way I can see them getting around it is if they take the angle of "Hey, did you know we actually butchered out prized anime ten years ago? Sorry about there! He's this to make amends and why it's better than the over-exposed garbage we thought was great back in the day".Lord Beerus wrote:Oh, and there's no way those HD remasters are coming to the West. I actually kind of agree here. At this point, anybody who wants to watch a dub is either watching Kai or the original release. Kai for improved performances and scripting, or the classic releases for nostalgia regarding the ham and VOs. For DB and GT in particular I can't see there being enough demand to warrant redubbing all 200+ episodes, particularly when they're still playing catchup with Super's dub and fans such as myself have a huge attachment to Nadolny's performance as Kid Goku.LordCrumb wrote:I wouldnt want another redub.. it would just delay a release even longer.

I've been meaning to buy the Dragon Box Movies but have held off. Thank God I did. Going all in on this Blu-ray release. I don't trust FUNimation to release these unedited (replacing original Japanese text & title cards), let alone release them at all. Ever since I've gotten into remuxing, I've had little need for official FUNimation releases as a whole, outside of providing me the subtitles to remux onto the Japanese releases.
I think this bodes very well for the original three series receiving a similar treatment.

Yeah, I agree with sintzu. FUNimation should just discontinue their previous Z Blu-rays and release the new Toei masters instead. Nobody should have to watch that mess anymore after the beauty of the remaster Toei did for the movies and (possibly) the series.

Before we celebrate, if these are released in 4:3 and if Funimation decides to pick them up (I can't imagine why they wouldn't) then there's a chance they'll try to crop it to 16:9 so it'll be "the way it was meant to be seen".

Funi could use these as a revized level set if they did the series + movies. Or dbox bluray?
