I eamn ever since this began one of the biggest examples of how the dub is still really, really flawed was how Vegeta still offers a partnership with Goku. It's shit like that.

Agree'd, it's nothing like Vegeta. He thought "Kakarot" was a disgrace to the Saiyans.

Actually, given that name reversals are only used for modern-day names, and Son Goku is the Japanese name of Sun Wukong, and thus not a modern-day name, the rule would not be applied here.
And as mentioned, everyone else other than FUNi use "Son Goku" (or "Sangoku" or whatever), without anyone bitching about how it's not "proper" Spanish/German/etc. There's no real excuse for not using the full name of the character.

I never understood why dubs didn't just use the family-name given-name convention. Is it really that hard? Would people not understand?

I thought it was Brown like in the series. Jeeeeesus, maybe it's a printing error, or even colouring.
That reminds me, at the start of the series you could see Saiyajin with Brown, blonde and red hair.

Answer? They just didn't know what they were doing back then. I would say that it's Toei's mistake, but I am thinking that Toriyama didn't even know Saiya-jin traits like that.

Retconning something that insignificant isn't much of a deal, but to have a main character's hair go from red, to brown to black and then have him state that their race only have black hair... sure they were following the manga but could have elaborated that hair eventually goes black.

i have no problems with the first 5 covers we have now ....... but [and this only bugs me like 2%] but cell looks like he is drawn with a black crayon - the other 4 fronts have nice sharp clean lines and cell is a bit "off"

but my 'beef' is with not using ssj2 gohan

side note for guessing - do u think they will combine great saiyaman tourny and babidi or just the first 2? - that would b 9 dvds worth from just 2 and they could use saiyaman [although i doubt they would]

then its babidi, majin buu, fusion, kid buu - kind of hard to break those up evenly, unless they are going by plot and not sagas

I doubt Kid Buu will make the cover, unless SSj3 Goku somehow gets the "Babidi saga/Buu saga" cover. But I would expect Funi to jump at the chance to have Goku on the final boxset. And I think Funi might put both Babidi and Buu on a cover together. Also, I'd love to see Gotenks on the "Fusion saga" boxset.

So basically, I think there will be 4 more boxsets, with The Great Saiyaman, Buu and Babidi, Gotenks and SSj3 Goku on the covers. I'm probably wrong though.

What about in Macross, where Hikaru called Roy 'Sempai'? It fits for him because he's a Japanese character where the rest are mostly Chinese, European or American.
