New Dragon Ball Artbook from Viz!? (Link inside)

Post by Yi Xing Long » Wed May 28, 2008 12:03 am

I found THIS while making a large Dragon Ball purchase on amazon. There is no information about it yet except for the release date, which will be August 19th, 2008. It is stated on amazon to be 218 pages, though they sometimes make errors...

I wonder what Viz is up to...

That's very interesting. I'm thinking it will be a collection of all the artwork that Toriyama did, such as the covers for the manga and whatnot.

The first Daizenshuu (Complete Illustrations) contains 217 pages so I'm guessing that this is some kind of paperback English translation with an added page (probably some sort of introduction) since this one is titled "The Complete Illustrations" and only has a one page difference. If this is a translated version of Daizenshuu 1, than others might be around the corner :D . *Jumping around in excitement*

Does Daizenshuu 1 have information on it, or is this just an illustration book? The last time VIZ did a dragonball encyclopedia-ish thing (dragonball collector anyone?) they filled it with dub logic. I wouldn't be surprised if they TRIED to mess this one up.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Daizenshuu 1 is mostly images and some interviews. Check kanzentai since they translated the whole thing.

An art book? Possible American release of Daizenshuu 1? Maybe further releases to come? I know it may be a bit too early to take these things for truth, but aw man... that'd be awesome.

Check the link desire posted, as it is definitely Daizenshuu 1.

My mind has been blown at the prospect of a complete Daizenshuu translation.

I mean, I just bought the 7 main Japanese books, but there's no way in hell I'm reading through the text-heavy volumes in Japanese. Too complicated.

Whoo~!

Is it finally happening? Are we getting domestic releases of the Daizenshuu?

Looks like it to me. :D

Do the page numbers match up to Daizenshuu 1?

I can't begin to express how excited I am. I've been hoping against hope that someday Viz would translate the Daizenshuu and release them here. Heck, I even started a silly online petition to get Viz to release the books in English about a year ago.

I just took a look at the dimensions of the other art books that Viz has published, including the One Piece Color Walk 1. It seems they keep the dimensions of the Japanese books while only differing by a FRACTION of an inch.

English Color Walk and the Japanese Color Walk

Notice how the dimensions match up almost exactly. So this Dragon Ball release could very much be a full-size Daizenshuu.

Okay first those awesome One Piece/DBZ crossver figures and now this! I'm just too happy for it to be healthy! XD

Going by the Amazon description, yes they do. Here's hoping they're releasing all of the Daizenshuu, and in a relatively timely fashion.

Wow this is really fantastic news... I'm sure something unforgivable will be wrong with it since well, it's been pretty well established at this point that we just can't win... But still, lets all keep our fingers crossed for a great release!

All the best,

WOW. The daizenshuu, huh?
I'll be looking forward to it; though I have a feeling Kanzentai's translation is still going to be the better of the two.
(I hope its hardcover.)

Is Viz just releasing them now to partly cash in on the "live action" movie? :?

It is paperback, but the dimensions should be the same as the original and the number of pages is the same as well. For $25 ($16.49 on amazon) could you really ask for more?

Okay, this makes up for the manga f-up. I've been seeing Inuyasha and Naruto "Daizenshuu" like books and was wondering when it was our turn. Hopefully this continues on and we get a translation or a faithful remake of the Daizenshuu.

And I just bought Daizenshuu 1.

Oh well!, I guess I'll have two copies!
