I wouldn't say that. Competent studios are releasing material from decades ago in proper aspect ratio, age has nothing to do with it. Only hacks like FUNimation (with regards to their DragonBall Z releases) are cropping material and stating that it
must be cropped for HD. It's a really, really bad excuse that people bought hook, line and sinker.
It's funny though, people at AnimeonDVD are complaining about the
small possibility that a Blu-ray release would be proper, and someone made a very good point (emphasis mine):
