Freeza coming to Earth. What was he thinking?

Postby hleV » Fri Jan 20, 2012 7:35 pm

  1. He gets owned by SSJ Goku.
  2. He gets mecha'd.
  3. He comes to Earth to get revenge.

Did he seriously think he'd powered up enough to handle SSJ Goku? It's not like he wasn't too sure, he was very confident, implying that he'd do it easily, right? He can't sense ki, so he doesn't know how strong SSJ Goku was, yet...

Was Mecha Freeza so much stronger than his prior self that he'd now be even stronger than SSJ Goku?
Or was Mecha Freeza including King Cold's support into his plan to defeat Goku?
Or was he... simply idiot?
Or was it a plot device to show what a weakling he is compared to Trunks? No, this is a in-universe discussion.

Tell me what the fuck was he thinking, please...

I believe he was delusional thinking he lost because he was beaten unfairly; getting cut in half by his own attack, etc.

Must have been a pride issue.

I imagine a conversation to be like this:

King Cold: How did a monkey beat you?
Freeza: I would have won had the planet not exploded.
King Cold: Well lets go to Earth and show him who is the strongest in the universe.
Freeza (out loud): I'll kill him
Freeza (in head:): Damnit

Is it that outrageous? He put up a decent fight against Goku once he went full-power, so if his cyborg body granted him constant power near that level, it's not unthinkable that he'd win.

He also couldn't sense ki, probably had no conception of the amount of training/leaps in power characters like Goku are capable of achieving in a single year, and had Cold to back him up if he needed it. Things were looking up for ol' Freeza.

Finally, there was always the option of blowing up the planet again and escaping in his fully functional spaceship.

He was missing half his brain, after all

To be honest, he didn't seem so sure about being able to defeat Goku by himself. He only thought it would've been a definite win if Cold helped him. Freeza probably thought he was on Goku's level on namek and only lost because his 100% power depleted his energy, since Goku mentions this as the reason why he's not going to continue with the battle. Either way, he clearly was overconfident, but not that unreasonable.

There was a significant difference beetwen Goku and Freeza battle powers. Perhaps it was not so noticeable because of their injuries, so Freeza had no idea how strong Goku really was.

Or Mecha Freeza was actually very strong and could put a fight, but he did not use all of his power against Trunks and was defeated in an instant.

Or Trunks and Freeza are overwhelmingly stronger than Goku was on Namek...

He was just consumed by his vengenance and his mecha form was stronger so maybe he hoped that he would win. And like others have said having Cold there as backup would boost his confidence.

Or was it a plot device to show what a weakling he is compared to Trunks?

But, yeah, that's how I really see it. Freeza should have stayed dead on Namek, it was the perfect end for the character.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

He was just being a complete moron, I think. Which is completely in character for him.

I like this answer.

Anyway, Freeza is definitely the type to over-estimate his chances. Even as Super Saiyan Goku was pummeling the purple out of him on Namek, Freeza still continued to insist that HE was the strongest in the universe. Having powered up by some amount now, it's not like he'd really change that particular habit.

He was fueled by revenge. When you want revenge, when you're really that pissed off, you don't think. You just act.

First off I hate it when people are like 'he can't sense Ki, than means he didn't know how strong he was'. They are capable of knowing how strong their opponents are just by watching them fight/fighting them.

Another thing is that Freeza was actually fairly cautious about fighting him and he stated that he may need King Cold's assistance so the whole 'Freeza got carried away' argument doesn't really work considering that.

Mecha Freeza should be somewhat stronger than SSjin Goku was on Namek but not by a lot as he still expresses doubt about fighting him alone.

Yeah I put SSj Goku (Namek) >= Mecha Freeza, so that (together?) with King Cold they stomp him, but that's just my opinion.

I doubt it. Trunks demolished Cold and Freeza, and Goku was still stronger than him. Goku can't have gotten a lot stronger if he was only training to use Shunkan-Ido. Mecha Freeza and Cold would probably still have lost to a fresh SS Namek!Goku, maybe even to the injured one that Freeza faced.

No reason to believe that namek ssj goku would be weaker than a fresh one. If he lost any amount of power before going ssj, it wouldnt be enough to match frieza and surpass him, so he got some kind of ki regen or something.

Freeza has always been an arrogant fool. Fool enough to not know that Goku recovered from that battle, Goku is a Saiyan. He can't put two and two together. Even if Freeza was just as powerful as he was when he fought Goku as a Super Saiyan, Goku would be much stronger anyways because he was healed after being brutally beaten.

Unless zenkais are noted, we can assume that they didn't happen, so no i believe that if goku refought frieza after his healing, the outcome would be the same.

Well, his power could have dropped from 3,000,000 to 2,400,000. Then he'd still match Freeza as a Super Saiyan.

On topic, I can't really imagine Freeza doing anything else. What are his alternatives? Hide from Goku forever? He's just not that kind of guy. He can't accept losing. That's why he tried blasting Goku one more time on Namek rather than escaping and coming back later. He's the kind of person who could never truly believe that he'd be the one to lose in the end, and he'd keep coming after Goku relentlessly until either he succeeded in killing him or was killed himself.

But remember goku could barely even stand after throwing the spirit bomb. IIRC, piccolo had to drag him out of the water, so there is no way goku was even remotely close to his full power before turning ssj.
But yeah i agree with what your saying about frieza. Regardless of him catching up to goku, he should be close, but i would still give goku the ede.

Freeza probably also lost power, however.

Wasn't it stated that Cold was stronger than Freeza? And that Freeza had become stronger himself?

The two of them together had a much bigger chance. Also Cold considered blowing up Earth right away. Since both can 'breath in space' they must have figured that blowing up earth could be an exit route.
