Was he aiming to just beat Goku or kill him(again)?

Goku was already dead at the time, so I doubt he wanted to "kill him again."

To beat Goku. Becuase at that stage, Vegeta was a petty, prideful and sad man, going though an extensional midlife crisis.

He has deep repressed feelings for Kakarott and this made him lash out in frustration.

He probably thought he would use the Dragon balls to revive all the dead people and Goku called him out so i am guessing to beat him.

If it came down to it, I suspect Vegeta would have been willing to sacrifice his own life if it meant taking Goku down with him -- that's assuming he became engrossed enough into the fight that only the restoration of his "honour" was dictating his actions. A grandiose final collision where both fighters are killed in the resulting blast sounds like it would be the most "dignifying" compromise he would make to assert his power.

Put yourself in Vegeta's shoes.

You live your life being told and actually living as the greatest member of your species. Even after most of them are extinct. This low grade pauper shows that there are ways to close the gap, then eventually he starts to outpace you and you can never keep up. You stick around trying to beat him, you get to heights never imaginable before, but you are one step behind him at every turn. Then he dies a heroic death and you lose any chance at reclaiming your throne and proving you are the best.

For 7 years you train aimlessly with no goal or real meaning because your life is fighting and proving you are the best and the one guy that is keeping you from that is dead.

Then you hear that for just a single day that opponent that you lost chance to prove yourself against and validate everything in your life is returning for a single day in divine fashion. No less, he is entering a tournament that you can enter and have a shot to prove you are the best. You even get matched up with him in round one so there are no excuses. Finally you get a single last chance to defeat him, reclaim your place as the top dog, and have some form of the peace you had before you met him.

Then something comes up and everyone leaves to fight some bad guys and that chance is completely lost.

He wanted to take what was, in his mind, his final and only opportunity to become the best again. He didn't have any respect for Babidi or his monster. The fighters Babidi sent against them were pathetic. He only cared about beating Goku. Once he kinda did that (albeit in a cheap way) he had no problem going off into the sunset and doing whatever was necessary to finish Boo off. That's because in his mind he was going out on top. He won. Then it comes crashing down when he realizes all of it was for nothing because SSJ3 was a thing and Boo just survived anyways. It was a huge prank on Vegeta.

However, that was his motive.

Beating Goku, and you can interpret some of his later thoughts as even wanting to surpass Goku as a hero

Too bad he realized too late that he isn't the hero of the story
