Interesting question. There's no definitive answer, but I'm going to assume it's because Vegeta died. Piccolo told him that due to all the evil acts he's committed in his life, he would not be allowed to keep his body in the afterlife. That means he became a spirit and went to Hell for the cleansing/purification process, so if he was reduced down to his spirit, even if his body was given back to him later, I just don't think the Majin curse would have applied to him anymore.
