Which studio besides Toei would you like DB to be animated by?

Post by DragonBallFoodie » Wed Mar 22, 2017 6:54 am

I heard that Studio Ghibli (famous for its founding directors Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki) worked on a DB film, PATH TO POWER. The animation in that feature was spectacular, and I think DBS would benefit greatly from having Ghibli people work on it. (Ghibli is also having financial problems that DBS would certainly save it from, so two birds with one stone)

I would also like to see the following studios try DBS or some other DB feature:
- Studio Trigger (Kill La Kill, Inferno Cop)
- David Production (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
- Kyoto Animation (Nichijou, Clannad)

Do you have any anime studios in mind that you would like to see DB done by?

I don't think Ghibli people worked on the 10th Anniversary movie. Especially not Miyazaki and Takahata. The only thing I remember is that Hosoda did some key animation work.

As for studios, they don't really mean much, as much as staff does. Except Kyouto Animation who do almost everything in-house, all the good work that you see in anime are the work of freelancers. If some of the good freelancers are acquainted with the series director or episode directors or even production assistants they'll show up. Connections matter most.

A DB movie by Toei Animation with better planning, scheduling and with Toei's best in-house talents would be the most satisfying and something that's possible and not unrealistic. No Yamamuro, no Sumitomo, Hayashi or Tate as CD, Takaki as music composer and lead by Nagamine would be the best thing.

If I were to entertain the idea of any other studio besides Toei though, I would give it to Studio Pierrot or more specifically the Naruto staff. They've handled the Naruto series with so much care and delivered extraordinary work when it mattered. Something like that would make Dragon Ball an impressive franchise both visually and creatively.

Trigger is a good choice as well. Imaishi leading with his trusted team members like Sushio, Amemiya Akira etc would do wonders. His Kanada-style influence and that aesthetic would be perfect for Dragon Ball.

I'm glad that you didn't mention Memehouse.

I would as well cause we'd get good work and due to the manga being done we wouldn't have to sit through filler.

I would prefer for it to be a seaosnal anime though so I'd get a studio like Wit (attack on titan) to do it.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Oh yeah, Pierrot would be a good choice too.

Studio Pierrot, if only because of the greater connections to freelancers. A Wakabayashi Atsushi directed series or movie would be insane.

Frankly, I want to see a new Dragon Ball series from the younger generation at Toei Animation. Give us Kamatani Haruka as the series director and Hayashi Yuuki or Watanabe Koudai as the character designer!

I'd love to seen Bones or Stuido Pierrot have a go with Dragon Ball. Their work on action animes has always been really great.

Maybe CLAMP studios could work out, or have worked out.

CLAMP is not an animation studio. It's a group of artists and writers that make comics, illustrations and character designs.

CLAMP in Wonderland was animated by Madhouse, would i like to see them animating Dragon Ball? It depends how well they could do long running series nowadays, Cardcaptor Sakura sequel will air January 2018, we will see how long it will be, and if animation/story quality wont suffer.

Bones, without a doubt. Even if it would probably be divided in seasons.

Other options: Madhouse, but also David, seeing how well they handled JoJo.
But yes, I would totally say Bones.

Bones would be a good choice. Mad House would be cool, but I don't think they fit for Dragon Ball since they mostly make more darker and serious anime like Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Black Lagoon and several others.

Madhouse did Card Captor Sakura. 'Studio' has nothing to do with shit, it's all about the staff hired to create a project.

I would love for Kyoto animation to animate Dragon Ball, the animation that they produce is always consistently good to outstanding.

I would love to see a Dragon Ball (Z) series re-imagined. I couldn't name a particular studio. Keep the character personalities mostly intact -- maybe with some dialing back in some areas -- and work it into a much tighter, higher quality production that features a high budget original score that's in the same vein as what Kikuchi left us. Treat it as an art with a timeless quality and not a cash-cow. The content and themes are already there, it just needs another take on presentation and narrative consistency. Too bad that Kai went the tired route, but understand why they feel that it needed to be done.

Studio Pierrot, mostly because (as far as I know) it's the only studio ,alongside Toei Animation, with the infrastructure and connections to dozens of young & veteran talented animators to produce weekly long running animes.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

WB animation so Bruce Timm can make his depraved sex fantasies about Dragon Ball characters become a reality
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I would love to see Tatsunoko Production taking a shot. Their classics had an international look that recaptured the magic of an old tale in Japanese form. That's what Dragon Ball should return to.
