I for one would like to see the series redone in the style of the video game openings or the new special. Such smooth animation.

Right from the horse's mouth (TOEI itself).
Some of the other people on this board already know this, but...I work for the Philppine studio of TOEI.
After my...contribution...last time, I feel kind of safer saying it openly now. Guess my bosses aren't monitoring every site as closely as I thought.
Still gotta be a little cautious, though...can't afford to lose my job just yet...
Wasted Wisher wrote:Hey, people.
Not sure if you've heard of this already....but I wouldn't be surprised if you did. Dai-EX seems to have pretty sharp sources...
Anyway, on to the topic at hand....it seems that TOEI is going to be re-drawing some scenes from Dragonball for broadcast on high-def tv. The touch-ups will include some re-done background art (most likely to broaden certain scenes for widescreen) as well as re-doing action sequences where the special effects don't hold up anymore. I'm not yet sure if the scenes being re-drawn are from Dragonball, or from DBZ. Hopefully both!
No indication as to whether or not TOEI will take the opportunity to correct some art bloopers this time around, but as far as I know content will remain pretty much the same. Nothing more, nothing less (meaning no new filler scenes, but no filler scenes taken out either.)
Hmmm...I wonder if they'll try to add the extended scenes from the ending of DBZ that was tacked on to the comic some time ago?

[/quote]<sangofe|afk> Hey. Anyone here believe Wasted Whiser?
<sangofe|afk> It sounds ackward, but then again... Toei're unpredictable at times.
<MajinVejitaXV> HA. No.
<MajinVejitaXV> Yes, Toei is, but news sites would be all over it.
<Xyex> All over what?
<sangofe|afk> The only reason I slightly believe it is that he had those character cheets that nobody else had.
<MajinVejitaXV> Guy posted saying Toei is reanimating portions of the series for HD release.
<Xyex> Ah
<MajinVejitaXV> I'm not saying he's being deceptive on purpose, but I think he might have gotten bad information.
<MajinVejitaXV> Still, we'll see. I'll completely apologize if it turns out to be legitimate.
<sangofe|afk> I think it's very strange, and out of place.
<sangofe|afk> How're they gonna pull off a mix of old, old animation with new?
<sangofe|afk> I guess they could animate with cells again...
<sangofe|afk> but uh
<MajinVejitaXV> It wouldn't look quite right. I mean, Gainax redid some ports of EVA for the Renewal project, but I assume Toei would have done that during the DragonBox development were they to do it at all.
<MajinVejitaXV> err, parts.
<sangofe|afk> Also, animating things isn't very cheap... To actually go to that step they'd need enormous sales, no?
<MajinVejitaXV> Yeah, but DragonBall is pretty much guaranteed sales.
<sangofe|afk> Enough for that in Japan?
<HeroOfCanton> I wouldn't doubt it
<MajinVejitaXV> Well, yeah. You do know the DragonBoxes cost TONS of money to produce.
<MajinVejitaXV> It wasn't a cheap remaster ala FUNimation.
<MajinVejitaXV> And, as far as I can tell, they sold quite well. Enough so that the GT box was even delayed, since they misjudged demand.
<MajinVejitaXV> I just wonder what the extent would be. Are we talking a "Hellsing Ultimate" take on DragonBall? A sampler for internal consideration of a DragonBall project? He says it would be for HD, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's as big as we'd think.
<Jacob> I think if anything they'll be apart of some sort of variety show hour or something.
<MajinVejitaXV> Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
<Jacob> Just reanimated scenes, not actually spliced into the episodes.
<sangofe|afk> That'd be kinda a downer. I want HD Dragonboxes, lol.
<MajinVejitaXV> I just don't know what 'SFX" he's referring to. Most of DragonBall was hand-animated, not any CG.
<Jacob> Maybe stuff akin to the Freeza fight with Son that Nakao showed.
<MajinVejitaXV> It's not like Cowboy Bebop where they used actual CGI rendered in SD that would need to be re-rendered for an HD release.
