Do you sit through the filler?

Post by Ultimate_DB_Fan » Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:04 pm

For those of you out there who've purchased the orange bricks, do you sit through the filler, or go straight to the battles of each saga?
Me? I sometimes think that sitting through the filler doesn't make sense, but then I have this paranoid idea that by skipping it, I'm cheating myself and being no different than the other folks out there who do hate it. Don't get me wrong, the filler in the series' was always important, because it allowed us to get to know the characters, and made new-comers understand what was going on. With me, though, I already know what's happening in every saga and why characters are doing what they're doing.
I've never attempted to do this, but I've always thought of it.

I skip what I call "Satan's Spawn Filler", such as that fucking Bulma and the crab one on Namek and the Garlic Jr arc. Apart from that though, I do sit through it for the most part.

A while ago I had the idea to use video editing software to reduce an episode to just fights. Problem is it would have taken too long to do.

When I watched DB, I skipped the filler that annoyed me. Like that cave journey to find the sacred water or whatever it was during the King Piccolo saga. Some it was enjoyable though. The Master Thief Hasky episodes were good.

Noooot all of it, or even most of it. Unless you count counting how many lines it took for the Toei animators to make Goku appear muscular while he's making a Genki Dama for Freeza as "getting to know a character," then sure.

But no, I don't ever "skip" filler. If I made the conscienscous choice to watch a particular part/saga/episode, I'll watch it completely. Of course, that hasn't actually happened in a good while due to filler.

I like filler because it have somthing new to me who read all of the manga beginning to end.

Filler like Garlic Jr. are absent from the manga and I get interested in it despite the flaws

Generally the only reason I watch the anime is if I want to see some specific filler scene. If I don't want filler, than I just read the manga.

Considering my favorite episodes were mostly filler (The Saiyaman/Flight Training "OMG SHIPPY" arcs), I definitely do.

I personally love most filler, honestly.

There is that part of it, but generally that's only the case if the filler is funny or it's a fight/extending a canon fight. Filler that is simple, out-and-out time-wasting froth just annoys me because it tend to be awful. Like fake Namek or Goku having to repair the spaceship, or the tv crews filming the Saiyan battle. That stuff just saps my enthusiasm because the only thing it does is delay and slow down the story without being at all entertaining or interesting.

Yep. Complete with a Doctor Who-esque spacesuit. Can't remember which episode it is, though...

Episode 50, I believe. I remember that one right off-hand because 50's a cool number and it's pretty much the only time in Z that Oolong and Puar have a decent role.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I dunno.

I'm pretty sure it is like 041 or 042. In fact, if it weren't filler, it'd be in the very next episode of Kai, but thankfully it'll be skipped over.

The filler I skip is the fake Namek stuff, Bulma and the crab, the Garlic Jr. stuff, and the Afterlife Budokai stuff. I do like a lot of the Saiyan arc filler with Gohan's training, the driving episode, and some of the Great Saiyaman filler. If the filler is stuff that drags things out instead of making original storylines (five minutes on Namek) and it's not particularly exciting then I just use it as background noise while I get some exercise, read a book, or talk to a friend online.

The only time I don't skip over anything and continue to pay attention completely is if I'm watching the show with friends. When I'm watching it with a group (or even just one other person) and we can sit and comment on this and that while it's playing, I find myself very focused on the show even when the filler is on. It's mostly when I'm by myself that I tend to get distracted while filler is on.

Also, if it isn't filler but it's drawn badly, I don't really pay 100% attention. I pay enough attention that I get what's going on but I don't focus on it too much. The bad animation just can't draw me in at all while the stuff that looks the most like Toriyama's art style tends to suck me right in.

Yeah same here, and Bulma and the crab, also some of the Goku in afterlife.
Everything else I’ll watch.

I hate the episode 'A girl named lime' more than almost any other filler; that and at the very end where Goku is protecting the eggs.......god i hope that was filler.

Yeah, that was filler. Anyway, I usually don't skip the filler. When I want to get through the series fast, I read the manga.

when I watched the orange brick sets in japanese all the filler was killing me b/c I "dislike" the japanese voices and music BUT I wanted to be able to say I gave it a chance.

If anyone hasn't already said it, the "Adventures of Son Gohan and Videl" filler was almost unbearable to watch. Son Goku's afterlife filler wasn't too good, either. :?
