Complete List of VHS Releases

Post by Hujio » Mon Sep 14, 2009 6:46 pm

So, YBM has been asking for this for a while now, and since I'm in the giving mood, I've compiled a complete list of VHS releases. I'm pretty confident in mostly all of the dates, but if you can prove me wrong, please do! I don't think it helps that I never paid much attention to the VHS releases. I included all of the moves, but opted to leave out the box sets because I'm lazy and tired of looking up dates. Be sure you pay attention to the fact that like the DVDs, many tapes were released out of order or skipped. I also have all of the VHS cover art, but for the sake of conserving space, I'm not going to post them all. Enjoy~!

Ultra thanks, although I do agree that those Freeza arc tape releases look mighty suspicious to me. I've tried using the WBM on Z-Store but that does seem to work.

Minus DB and the Movies and KidMark...I've got all of those aside from the Cell Saga [all uncut] except for GT is the edited ones and I'm missing the 'Lost Episodes'

And I can't sell them to save my life. :(

Wow I can't believe each tape has only 3 Episodes on them. I guess that would be OK for back then though.

That's how it was. Heck, I think all of Robotech and Star Blazers were released back in the day with only 2 eps per tape.

As for the tapes, for DBZ I have a lot of the first 2 seasons on either those releases or taped off CN, though missing some of season 2. Got Frieza ones of the Goku-Frieza fight, and Trunks-Imperfect Cell tapes and Great Saiyaman tapes.

June 19, 2001 – Perfect Cell: Unstoppable (147-150 US / 162-165 JP)
So if that was the last VHS I bought before deciding to switch to DVD format, outside one disk it took... two and a half years for them to finally start finishing the Cell Saga. Son of a bitch they screwed me good.

May 14, 2002 – General Blue: The Pirate Cave (049-051)
Never Released – General Blue: N/A (052-054)

------

Pirate Cave (while it shows episode 049-051 on the back) actually has 4 episodes on it! Yep I was surprised by this after I finished episode 51.

And I wasn't too happy that the second tape (which I believe was called Hidden Treasure) was never released. The picture of it shows Lunch stomping down on Roshi (which I believe was after one of his pervert moments).

Where is my lost tape?!

That's what I thought, but in fact, VHS tapes were shipped as late as October 2008, when the last company still producing them sent out its final truckload.

Proof:

Actually, there's quite a few sales for DB VHS tapes, and their all quite cheap:

I thought Kill Bill 2 was the last VHS made? Who would thought they would make them until 2006. This makes me wounder how long DVD's will last?

Pirate Cave (while it shows episode 049-051 on the back) actually has 4 episodes on it! Yep I was surprised by this after I finished episode 51.

And I wasn't too happy that the second tape (which I believe was called Hidden Treasure) was never released. The picture of it shows Lunch stomping down on Roshi (which I believe was after one of his pervert moments).

Where is my lost tape?!
I thought the cover of "General Blue: The Pirate Cave" had Lunch stomping on Kame-sennin?
Argh, I'm confused right now.

I'll check them tonight to confirm the covers.

The Freeza tapes were not all released on the same day.

As much as I hate contributing to this eight-year-old thread bump, I'm pretty sure ABED is right on that one. I do think Frieza: The Summoning and Frieza: Transformation came out at the same time, but it certainly wasn't November. Those two were out before season 3 began airing in September because those two tapes were my introduction to the season 3 changes.

At least where I lived they all came out around the same time. I remember going into my local Target and they had both Ginyu tapes and Frieza: The Summoning through at least Death of a Prince there in the edited form out on the same day.
