Re-animated Scene Archive: 19-26 Added! (Image Heavy)

Post by Hujio » Wed Sep 23, 2009 1:40 am

Yoo~sh! So, Corey and I were thinking the other night that we need a place to consistently collect all of the re-animated scenes from the series for quick reference. In that spirit, we'll be collaborating and compiling a full archive of these scenes in this thread. Eventually we'll try to update weekly with each new episode, but until then we're going to be playing catch-up. As always, if anyone out there would like to help, feel free. Simply let us know if there are any re-animated scenes we've missed. We'll be adding our own personal comments, as needed, while we go along. I'll gladly take any thoughts, comments, or suggestions.

Also, as we do this, these may appear on Kanzentai, but I'm not sure about that yet. We'll see...

I'll also be updating this first post with links to each episode, since I have a feeling this might get quite long and things will get hard to find.

DragonBall Kai: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disclaimer: Please note that the DragonBall Kai colors shown in the comparisons are subject to the encoding of the RAW file from which they were taken and may not be representative of the actual color of the episode when broadcast. As such, please do not put too much weight into the colors, as they may have been tampered with, which is evident in the color comparison between the DVD source and two different RAW files, shown below.

DragonBall Kai Episode 001 (Link)

闘いの幕開け!帰ってきたぞ孫悟空

The Curtain Opens on the Battle! Son Goku Returns

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first five re-animated scenes are from the first DBZ TV special, the 6th is from DB episode 148, and the last is from DBZ episode 001.

Ah, the very first re-animated scene in the series, just to remove Goku's poor winkie. Goodbye little guy... you'll be missed. ;)
Image

The close-up shot of Bardock's ki blast and its impact with Freeza's giant energy ball has been completely re-animated.
Image
Image

After Freeza's energy ball impacts Planet Vegeta, the planets explosion scene has been completely re-animated.
Image
Image

Goku's progression from child to adult has been re-animated and slowed down slightly.
Image

The first part of the scene where Gohan discovers Goku has been re-animated, and not only that, but Goku's penis has been conveniently covered up with a small amount of digital grass.
Image

Goku swinging through the trees at the beginning of the recap sequence has been re-animated. Be sure to take note of the crappy line detail. Why is it so thick, and then super thin?! I'm also not liking the redrawn tree, it just, I don't know, doesn't look real...
Image
Image

In the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai recap, part of scene where Goku head butts Piccolo has been re-animated. Interestinly enough, while they were at it, they re-colored Piccolo's blood from red to purple to match his blood color in the rest of DragonBall Z.
Image

Piccolo's ki blast at Raditz has been completely re-animated, including newly drawn background art. Raditz sure has long legs...

Wow, this was an excellent idea! I didn't realize there was so much reanimated so early. Looking forward to more examples.

During the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai flashback, the re-animated footage of Goku slamming into Ma Junior from the first episode is re-used, although it has been re-colored to signifiy it is a flashback.
Image

Two scenes during Kame-sennin's re-telling of how Grandpa Gohan found Goku have been altered to remove Goku's wee-wee (penis). The first was a simple edit job (no re-animation), while the second has been completely re-animated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the original broadcast, Toei forgot to color in the background of the "Kame" logo on Goku's dougi with white. To correct this, the whole scene has been re-animated. Coincidentally, the uncorrected version of this scene was used in the next episode preview for this episode.
Image

As Goku and Piccolo charge towards Raditz they are shown running back and forth in front of one another. This scene has not only been re-animated, but completely redrawn. When compared side-by-side with the original broadcast, the scenes don't match at all.
Image

The scene where Goku and Piccolo take on Raditz in hand-to-hand combat has almost entirely been re-animated, including the grass getting kicked up into the air. In addition, most of the fast movements in the scene have been slowed down and a bunch of blur effects have been added. Basically, some of the shots in this scene just look plain bad, i.e. the second image.
Image
Image

As Raditz flies up into the air to evade Goku and Piccolo's attack, they pursue after him. Interestingly, the shot of Goku flying up into the air wasn't re-animated, but the shot of Piccolo was.
Image

Piccolo bleeding after losing his arm to Raditz's ki blast has been re-animated, and as done previously, his blood color has been changed from red to purple.
Image

Goku's one-on-one battle with Raditz to distract him while Piccolo charges his Makankosappo has been almost entirely re-animated.
Image
Image

The scene where Goku fires a Kamehameha at Raditz has almost been entirely re-animated, including Raditz blocking it.
Image
Image

Goku getting hit by Raditz's attack has been re-animated and re-colored from white to yellow.
Image

Piccolo firing his Makankosappo for the first time at Raditz has been almost entirely re-animated.
Image

Gohan flying at Raditz in anger has been re-animated, but him actually hitting him has been left the same.
Image

After hitting Gohan out of the way, Raditz charges a ki attack and raises his hand to finish off Gohan. Raditz raising his hand has been re-animated.
Image

Piccolo's Makankosappo hitting Raditz and Goku has been re-animated, although Piccolo firing the attack was left the same.
Image

Undoubtedly the most controversial alteration in DragonBall Kai so far; the scene following the two warriors getting hit with the Makankosappo has been re-animated, with almost all of the blood from the original broadcast being removed. Both of the "holes" have also been edited to show less blood and gore, and all subsequent scenes from here on out where they are visible have been edited. However, you should note from a manga panel comparison that the majority of the blood edited out by Toei was original added by Toei, as the manga wasn't quite so gruesome. By no means does this justify censorship, but I felt it was worth noting.
Image
Image
Image

The single shot of Piccolo while telling Raditz that Goku will be brought back to life with the dragonballs has been re-animated, which is odd since the original scene seems to be in good shape and could easily just be cropped without losing Piccolo's head.
Image

The scene where Vegeta and Nappa discuss heading to Earth has been re-animated, and to everyone's enjoyment, Vegeta's armor has also been edited to have the proper colors that he will appear in later in the series. Ironically, Vegeta's armor was not edited in an earlier scene during Radtiz's monologue about the Saiya-jin. It should be noted that when only Nappa is shown on screen, these shots have not been re-animated. Also, Nappa's armor was not re-colored, even though his colors will change later in the series as well.
Image

To finish things off, the final scene of DragonBall Kai has been re-animated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shot of Raditz as Bulma and Krillin head his way to steal his scouter has been re-animated. You should note that no blood was edited from this scene, as there was none shown in the original.
Image

All shots of the Oni guide driving Goku to Snake Road from the front have been re-animated.
Image

During the flashback of Raditz's death, the re-animated footage of Piccolo firing the Makankosappo through Goku and Raditz from the third episode is re-used, although it has been re-colored to signify it is a flashback.
Image

After being thrown by Piccolo, the scene of Gohan flying towards a giant mountain and powering up has been re-animated. I'm not sure why they decided to re-draw the background with clouds, but whatever. Also, all shots of Gohan actually firing the ki blast have not been re-animated.
Image

The scene of Goku flying over Snake Road and sneezing has been re-animated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During Kami-sama's flashback of Piccolo killing Raditz and Goku, the re-animated footage of the Makankosappo hitting Goku and Raditz from the third episode is re-used, although it has been re-colored to signify it is a flashback.
Image

A brief part of the scene where Gohan is awoken early in the morning by the bright rays of the sun has been re-animated. It's fair to say that it was most likely not re-animated because of the bright rays, as this effect was later used after Piccolo blows up the moon, which was not re-animated.
Image

Kame-sennin's reaction to the arrival of Chi Chi and Gyuumao at Kame House has been re-animated and slightly altered. In the original version the background flashed as Kame-sennin looked on in horror, but in DragonBall Kai, a single static background was used. This is quite a shame since it seems rather lazy on Toei's part.
Image

After Piccolo shoots the moon with a ki blast, it begins to glow. As far as I can tell, the moon has been cut out (not redrawn), placed over a new background, and a new glowing effect has been added.
Image

The moon exploding has been re-animated, which should look familiar. This explosion effect was used in the first episode of DragonBall Kai when Freeza blew up Planet Vegeta.
Image

The scene where Gohan transforms back to normal after going Oozaru has been re-animated so that his tail oh so conveniently covers his naughty parts.

I'm beginning to think I prefer some of the original footage more than the redrawn portions.

Nappa destroying East City with a flick of his finger has been re-animated, along with the majority of the explosion. Vegeta has also been re-animated at the beginning of the scene, but that is only because the screen pans from him to Nappa destroying the city.
Image
Image

Vegeta and Nappa hovering above what was once East City has been re-animated.
Image

Bulma putting on the scouter, saying they should go help them, and Oolong's response of "No way in Hell!" have been re-animated to correct the color of the scouter. Also be sure to take a look at the difference in Kame-sennin's skin color.
Image

Krillin standing up and turning to confront the Saiya-jin to avenge Yamcha's death has been re-animated.
Image

For the first time in the series, we see re-animated scenes shown in the next episode preview. In a way, this is somewhat surprising, considering in previous episodes scenes shown in the next episode preview were left as-is, but were eventually re-animated in the next episode. However, if they're going to do this, they need to make sure they don't rush things and double check the re-animated material. That being said, I present to you one of the biggest mistakes to date in DragonBall Kai. I assume that someone was editing this shot and before exporting the footage, they forgot to change one of the animation layers back to visible in their editing program. As Tenshinhan fires his Kikoho, the ki flashes around his hand and you can clearly see by the checker-box effect that the layer that is supposed to be flashing has been set as transparent. How this got through inspection with no one noticing is beyond me, but it's very disheartening to see. Just... wow!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almost the entire scene where Krillin unleashes his attack has been re-animated, from the point where he curves the attack up into the air to where it finally hits Nappa and Vegeta. The only parts not redrawn are those with the Saibaiman getting hit by the attack.
Image
Image
Image

Part of Nappa's power up scene has been re-animated. Specifically the energy shooting down from the sky and surrounding his body.
Image
Image

Chaozu getting hit by Nappa's mouth beam has been re-animated.
Image

Nappa stops Krillin from reaching Tenshinhan by firing a giant ki blast in front of him. Much of the ensuing explosion has been re-animated as well.
Image
Image

Most of the scene with Chaozu self-destructing has been re-animated, including Tenshinhan's reaction.
Image
Image
Image

Nappa punching Tenshinhan in the gut has been re-animated, most likely due to the fact that the original scene flashed like a strobe light, which has been left out of the re-animated footage.
Image

Part of the scene with Nappa diving toward Tenshinhan to deliver the finishing blow has been re-animated.
Image

Piccolo hitting Nappa in mid-air towards Krillin has been re-animated.
Image

Both Krillin and Piccolo's ki blasts at Nappa have been re-animated, as well as Nappa dodging them and their massive explosion. Notice the color difference in Piccolo's attack?
Image
Image
Image
Image

Tenshinhan firing the Kikoho at Nappa has been re-animated, as well as Nappa actually getting hit by it and everyone's reactions. I will note that when Nappa gets hit that the screen flashes really bright in DragonBall Z, but this has been removed in DragonBall Kai.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The scene back at Kame House has also been re-animated, and again, the bright flashing has been removed. Note that now everything is turned yellow and orange from the Kikoho, and not just those stuck right in front of the TV.

After Piccolo falls to the ground, the screen pans across Nappa, who says that he accidentally killed him out of order. Nappa has been re-animated in this scene.
Image

As Goku approaches on Kinto-Un, he notices someone's energy is fading fast. All of the close-up shots of Goku's face have been re-animated. In the shot shown below, you'll notice that the dramatic horizontal focus lines have been removed.

As Piccolo dies, Kami-sama begins to fade away. An overhead shot of Mister Popo and Kami-sama has been re-animated.

As Nappa raises his foot to crush Gohan, we see a re-animated scene of Krillin closing his eyes and gritting his teeth in despair.

The quick shot of Goku walking by Vegeta to check if Piccolo is still alive has been re-animated. It appears that the shot was only re-animated to remove Vegeta's brown hair.
