Dragon Ball Kai to Air in Portugal (2012 Announcement)

Postby dbboxkaifan » Tue Apr 17, 2012 2:01 pm

Link for the Portuguese TV announcement's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur68yTybIOY

Dragon Ball Kai is going to air in a Portuguese channel called "SIC Radical" and it won't be dubbed (lucky them), though, instead it's with the original Japanese audio and with Portuguese subtitles.

If anyone wants to know what's written while Kakkarot/Raditz are talking then here ya go:

Rukura wrote:Goku: I wanted to watch Dragon Ball Z, but I'm tired of those old and worn-out from the original episodes.

Raditz: But now you have Dragon Ball Kai.

Goku: Dragon Ball Kai?

Raditz: Yes, Dragon Ball Kai.

Goku: And what's Dragon Ball Kai?

Raditz: You don't know what Dragon Ball Kai is?

Goku: No.
I already said I didn't!
Tell me!

Raditz: Look at that, this one doesn't know what Dragon Ball Kai is...

Goku: Are you gonna tell me what Dragon Ball Kai is or not?

Raditz: Dragon Ball Kai is the remastered version of Dragon Ball Z.

Goku: Remastered?

Raditz: Remastered.

Goku: What else?

Raditz: And re-edited by Akira Toriyama. (<---- -_-')
And it will air in SIC Radical.

Goku: Oh, now I know what Dragon Ball Kai is.
Wait, tell me one more time.
Remastered, SIC Radical and what else?

Promo card: Coming soon
Dragon Ball Kai.

As of now, they're still airing this advertisement.

Either he was joking about how bad the Portuguese Z dub was, or he was being sarcastic.

Yeah, like Pokewhiz7 said.

Just watch this piece of crap scene dubbed in Portuguese and you'll see how bad it is:

I'm Portuguese but god damn those stupid, useless, annoying voice filters, they ruined the characters, even their voices are only semi-understandable. Tbh, I've got no clue what Burta said (Força Imparcial?).

Cell, Piccolo, God, and pretty much all space enemies have this awkward noise, except for Vegeta, Nappa and a couple of others.

Well, as lackluster as the original Portuguese dub is, a dub of Kai would have been an opportunity to make a better dub and redeem the mistakes of their Z dub, as has been the case with the English dub and the French dub.

On the other hand, I do find it utterly hilarious that they were making up subtitles. It makes me wonder if they'll do the same thing when the actual show airs. When I was younger and didn't understand the copyright issues that would be associated with doing this, I often thought about doing a different kind of abridged series for certain animes called "Very Wrong Subtitles," in which I would post clips or episodes of an anime in Japanese and just completely re-write the subtitles as a way of humorously re-writing the plot and the dialogue.

They're not that much of a bunch of idiots (...despite certain actions point toward the contrary...).

We've had plenty of anime (past and present) airing in Japanese with subtitles. (FMA, FMA:B, Naruto, Shippuden, One Piece (at certain points), Soul Eater, etc.)

Here's the problem: The people that are gonna be doing the Kai translation also did the translation for Naruto, Naruto Shippuden and Bleach. They're notoriously bad. The subtitles in Shippuden...let's just say that that specific dub is better than the subtitles themselves...

EDIT: I wonder if they'll take advantage of the fact that the manga release is currently on volume 17. It just seems like there's a lot of great marketing to be had right now with Kai on TV and our manga release.

You know, they should air this on the regular "SIC" channel instead which is free and I'd actually give a shit about watching a Portuguese TV channel for once.

I agree, Rukura, it'd be great if they featured Yamamoto's music but as it's heard in this video, it's really the replacement soundtrack super duper limited version of the original DBZ soundtrack.

So wait. We're getting subbed Kai on TV? I might actually start watching SIC Radical for this.

A-yup. I'm on that same boat, I never actually watched past episode 1. Plus, it's gonna be fun to rip their subtitles a new one.

Surely, somewhere down the line, they'll dub it to air in SIC K. Of course, since they will never get the old voices back, people will hate it even if (by some long shot) they actually do it better.

If they ever do that I'll be blaming you for the flying pigs on the street lol. SIC in 2012 is more likely to broacast porn than Dragon Ball.
EDIT: Actually, depending on your definition of full-on porn, they have done that.

If they translate from the French subtitles that aired on GameONE in France, they'll be pretty good subtitles. I don't imagine they'd translate directly from Japanese -- this is Portugal, we're too incompetent for that.

Naruto subs are probably translated from the Spanish dub.

So we're going to have Toonzai Kai dubbed in Portuguese? Wonderful!

Toonzai Kai? Nah, this is Portugal. As incompetent as we can be, we rarely ever cut and/or censor anything ourselves -- typically we air stuff exactly as it's given to us.

Proper recording of the commercial in better quality than a freaking camera pointed at the TV.

Heh, the quality's much better than that cam.

If SIC Radical stored their DBZ episodes on an HDD they probably wouldn't look shitty, but thank goodness for Japanese Kai in Portugal, the Z dub is terrible.

Edit: If a DBZ Kai Portuguese dub gets produced please don't "rape" the name "Songoku" or "Songohan", SIC. Just use Goku, Son Goku, Gohan and Son Gohan as it was done in the Japanese version.

Or call Piccolo as "Satã", and Mr. Satan not "Hercules" (nothing to do with the Disney film). Keep their original names.

Actually, they probably do have digital masters. The footage looks like ass because it's multi-generational and came through France.

That was also French idiocy. Portuguese DB dubs have many problems of their own doing, but these specific ones aren't their fault.

Problems that, if I heard it correctly, were corrected in the French dub of Kai. Am I wrong, though?

Yeah, the French dub of Kai uses the Japanese terms, mostly.

I can't find info about the French DBZ Kai dub, so let me ask you, Puto, what do they call Mr. Satan? Mr. Satan?

Piccolo's Piccolo?

Thanks!

I've been trying to find the damned DBZ Kai French dub version but can't find it anywhere, how/what name should I use for it?

I tried "Dragon Ball Kai French", "Dragon Ball Z Kai French" French/France but nothing came up about it and ANN's missing the French dub.
