Dragon Ball Movie's available in HD on FUNimation's Website.

Post by ChibiGoku » Thu Dec 25, 2014 9:50 am

I wasn't sure how many people were aware of this, but for those who have a subscription to FUNimation's website, all four of the Dragon Ball movies are available in HD (up to 1080p) for both the Subtitled and Dubbed versions.

Although the Blacks are a bit crushed, it does appear that the grain and dirt on the uploads seems to have been left alone for the most part. Overall, they do appear to look rather nice.

Here's a couple screenshots:

Where can I find these (I can't find them on the site ><)

These were never on bluray correct? These would be interesting to watch :)

Does this perhaps hint at a HD release of the movies?

Looks like an upscale to me... Still though, nice of them to not mess around with the footage and just upload it as-is. One would think that would be a given, but yeah, given FUNi's track-record, this is commendable.

I would love to see the Dragon-boxes of the original series more Buuuuuuut I wouldn't mind an HD release of the original series on Bluray. 8) :)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

What track record? Minus a single show that ends with a Z, and minor problems here and there, Funi's track record is rather good.

A single franchise does not a pattern make.

It's not an upscale, I tested it.

That said, Movie 2 is screwed up pretty hard—the framerate was chopped in half!

Yep, that's how FUNimation's "remaster" of movie 2 was on the DVD set. It was so bad that I went out and bought the old 3 pack for about $5 so I could have the movie not completely butchered.

That's a pretty big thing to let slip through QC. At least all of their other "remasters" on the set (especially the 10th anniversary film) turned out pretty good.

Wow, those screenshots look actually quite nice so hopefully they'll do a Blu-ray release of the Dragon Ball movies.

I wonder if they've gotten ahold of the Dragon Ball TV series to remaster in HD for a BD release too, but god dammit, don't make it too dark!

Does the streaming videos give you a choice what language to watch it in?

Also, since the audio is really muffled (more so than I remembered) I tried timing Dbox audio with the stream and it' work really well! No re-timing at all

It's interesting that FUNimation is still doing the DB films in 4x3 AR instead of the official 16x9 AR but this is personally my favourite aspect ratio for all of the 80's and 90's Dragon Ball stuff so I don't really mind it, and it's a bonus since you can see the bottom and top.

Come on FUNimation make a Blu-ray release of the DB movies 1-4 already!

Yeah, Gokuu's poor cheeks look messed up. The light spots on the ground are practically blinding. I can't tell if there was actual color or background art there!

The crushed blacks are an issue, yeah, but if you're not too picky then you won't even notice it and rather just enjoy watching Dragon Ball in HD for the first time ever.

If this is what FUNimation's preparing to reveal in 2015 then OMG YES! :D
