The fifth set of Dragon Ball The Movies individual discs (DBZ movies 9 & 10) were just released, and in typical Toei fashion, they have already posted the next set of covers (DBZ movies 11 & 12). These next two films, “Super-Warrior Defeat!! I’m the One Who’ll Win” (DBZ movie 11) and “Rebirth of Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta” (DBZ movie 12), are set to be released on 09 January 2009.

You can still order any of the previously released discs or either of these discs from Amazon Japan.

The full-length Japanese trailer for the upcoming live action Dragon Ball movie leaked online today, so go take a gander while you still can:

In addition to that, Anime News Network is reporting (via the Sports Nippon newspaper) that none other than Ayumi Hamasaki will be performing the theme song to the movie (“Rule”). They note that it will be used as the theme song “… in over 60 countries around the world”; there is no specific notation of whether or not the US will get this song.

Additionally, IGN is actually “premiering” the “international” trailer, themselves, with various formats and sizes available.

Episode #0154 of the podcast is available for download! We had such a fun time with this one, and I genuinely both enjoyed myself a ton and learned a bit in the process. We brought on Meghan and Kat to talk about cosplay with us, wide sub-topics all over the place with things like cross-play, photo shoots, and more! They were truly great to have on, so look for them again in the future (since there is still so much more we could talk about). Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0154! VegettoEX and Meri bring on Meghan and Kat (Julian shows up for a little bit, too) to talk about cosplay! DB cosplay has significantly grown in both popularity and quality over the last couple years, and they are here to tell you about everything from funny stories to taping down body parts. A few bits of news, December’s releases, and fascinating e-mails round out the episode.

Shueisha has put up a new figure of Piccolo in their Mekke! Shop, the fourth in a seven figure collection put out by Shueisha:

Also looking quite sexy is a prototype Super Saiyan Goku figure from Medicos (not to be confused with the Medicom figure having cracking issues). This figure looks to be amazingly well detailed and is part of the Medicos “Super Image Art Collection” series. It is set to be released in April 2009.

In a bit of frustrating news, the special Goku figure from Medicom that we mentioned at the very beginning of the year is starting to showcase serious production issues, as brought to our attention by our forum member Oldphan and posted on dragonballtoys.com:

With the prices that people pay for these things, it is certainly frustrating to see something like this. Hopefully Medicom will get their act together and issue some type of statement, especially with more DBZ figures on the way.

FUNimation’s new Dragon Ball GT “season one” DVD box set is finally out, and boy do we have a whole bunch of info pouring in about it!

  • Five discs
  • Same packaging style as the DBZ TV “remastered” season sets
  • A new/different encode and “clean-up” is used, though there are slight blurring issues that continue to remove detail
  • Full-screen 4:3 presentation (no cropped-widescreen)
  • Contains episodes 1-34 (correctly numbered; no more “Lost Episodes” nonsense)
  • Audio tracks: English dub w/ Japanese score, English dub TV broadcast track (Menza score), original Japanese
  • OP, ED1, ED2 included on English tracks as new English versions of original Japanese songs
  • Both English dub audio tracks play with English versions of original Japanese theme songs
  • The newly dubbed songs do not use the original Japanese instrumentation
  • “Step Into The Grand Tour” is completely absent
  • The eyecatch is visually cut to match the English music instead of the (proper) reverse way
  • Next-episode previews are removed (whereas the original DVD releases had them)
  • Opening credits have Japanese production crew listed
  • Original DBGT logo is gone, replaced solely with FUNimation’s own creation
  • Japanese title cards are gone, replaced solely with FUNimation’s dub title cards (no alternate angles)
  • Extras confirm that the DBGT TV special will be included on the second box set

Special thanks to SSJ Kaboom for pulling together the above image. Check out all sorts of additional tidbits in our discussion thread.

Episode #0153 of the podcast is available for download! You have all probably been watching it non-stop for the last week, so take a break and listen to the bunch of us talk about the Jump Anime Tour special, “Ossu! Kaette Kita Son Gokû to Nakama-tachi!!“. We brought on Hujio and Herms from Kanzentai to discuss it with us, too! It has been over ten years since the last true, new addition to the franchise, so how does this hold up? Lots of great discussion points and stories to be shared. Definitely check it out.

Just wanted to leave you with one last thing for the day, though. On last week’s show, our buddy Jeff decided that it would be a fantastic idea to fuse Appule and Paragas together to form “Appuragas”. Well, one particular listener went above and beyond the call of duty:

That is right: Appuragas, submitted for your approval. What do you think, fandom?

The official Dragon Ball DVD blog now features Oolong and Yamcha’s coverage of the conclusion to the “Come forth, Shenron! Gather the Dragonballs” campaign. This was a contest held back in August in celebration of the release of the Dragon Ball individual discs, the winner of which would “have their wish made a reality”. The winner, chosen from 12,000 people, was a Mr. Suzuki, whose wish was to see the Dragon Ball movies on a private big screen theater (something tells me he had a somewhat limited range of wishes to actually pick from).

And so his wish was granted on November 16th, at Fuji TV Multimedia Theater in Odaiba. Fuji TV announcers Maiko Saitou and Keiko Tsubakihara were there, along with Hironobu Kageyama, who gave a live performance of “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA”. Goku himself then appeared in convenient styrofoam suit form and requested that Kageyama sing “We Gotta Power”. Masako Nozawa also came by and was interviewed together with Kageyama. They were asked what wish they would make to Shenlong, and Nozawa said she would like to get into the Guinness Book of Records, while Kageyama said that, as a fan of Kame-Sen’nin, he would wish to do a pafu-pafu… but he quickly added that he was only joking, and his real wish would be to always stay healthy enough to sing.

Episode #0152 of the podcast is available for download! I don’t blame you if you’re too busy watching and re-watching the new Jump Anime Tour special (see update below), but if you’re looking to cure that DBZ itch a little more, we’re here for you! We tackled Volume 21 of the manga (DBZ Volume 5 if you’re going with Viz), and we certainly had some interesting thoughts about where Toriyama is taking the story and how he’s getting there. Lots of other great stuff, too, if you’ve got the time in between viewings…! Definitely check it out.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0152! VegettoEX, Meri, Julian, and Jeff get through volume 21 in our “Manga Review of Awesomeness”. We have taken off into space, and the universe has expanded for our heroes. We are getting tons of new information, but is the story taking a hit in the process? Fun bits of news, DBZ ABCs, some releases, and great e-mails round out the episode.
