Last month we brought you the first of two anime companion guide books released in conjunction with the series’ grand revival in Japan in the early 2000s. Well, this time around we bring you the second of these fantastic guide books, Dragon Ball Tenka’ichi Densetsu, covering the original Dragon Ball TV series.
Once again there’s plenty of great information in the guide, but its true highlight is a lengthy interview with Akira Toriyama, series organizer Takao Koyama, and Son Goku’s voice actress Masako Nozawa. So in addition to simply creating an information page for the guide, we’ve also translated this amazing interview for your reading pleasure and added it to the “Translations” section! There will also be some other great interview translations coming from this guide book very soon, so look forward to those.
And finally for all you podcast listeners out there, be sure to grab this upcoming week’s podcast episode tomorrow for a lengthy discussion about our favorite interview discussion points.

Oh wow; Nozawa’s serendipitous situations that allowed her to get the job of Goku (especially that part about the other series she had previously been working on) is really cool.
YES! Toriyama said that Kuririn is the strongest human! Can we please finally end the debates? Please, oh please?
That was a really great interview. Fun read!
That statement was suggested by Koyama
And Toriyama confirmed. He could have corrected him if Koyama was mistaken.
He just didn’t care
You can’t know if he cared or not. He flat out said that Kuririn is the strongest male Earthling. Of course, the Daizenshuu say that Tenshinhan is the descendant of the Tree-Eyed race, and not an Earthling, so maybe Toriyama doesn’t consider him an Earthling. Maybe the idea was his. We can’t know though.
Are you suggesting that Tenshinhan is also an Alien? Because being from a Three-Eyed race may make Tenshinhan not “human”. But it doesn’t dis-include him from being an “earthling”.
Daizenshuu 4 does class Tenshinhan with the rest of the Earthlings. It’s that Earthling section that introduces the whole ” descendant of the Three-Eyed Clan” thing in the first place, so obviously they don’t consider it as making him not an Earthling.
Daaaang, I should really update my website with the Suzuoki interview! 😉
Thanks for clarifying that Herms. 🙂
