Shueisha has announced that the upcoming eighth volume (“Legend 8”) of the Dragon Ball manga’s new “Digest Edition” (Sōshūhen) — kicking off the “Saiyan Invasion Arc” — will see its release in Japan 05 August 2016. The inside-back-cover of last week’s “Legend 7” further confirms the new release date and volume’s contents:
This places the volume one week earlier than the normal release schedule (the second and fourth Fridays of each month), likely for the sake of the Bon Festival holiday period, which falls as this volume would have normally been expected for release.
“Legend 8” will retail for ¥650 plus tax, with the 478 pages likely spanning chapters 195 to 223. “Legend 9” — due 26 August 2016 — will set the release schedule back on track; the volume will pick up for another 392 pages and retail for ¥550 plus tax.
These editions are touted as allowing the reader to “enjoy Dragon Ball the same way as when it was serialized in Jump“, and are the same size as the original Weekly Shōnen Jump serialization (JIS B5; 18.2 × 25.7 cm). The volumes feature an exclusive large foldout poster, the original color pages and titles, promotional slogans, text and logos, and next issue previews at the end of each chapter.
