Episode Summary
Part A
The Tamagami introduces himself as “Tamagami Number Three” and asks if Goku seeks the Dragon Ball. Once Goku confirms, the Tamagami rushes in to strike with his hammer. Goku dodges several powerful smashes, leaping into the air and hopping from rock to rock before charging in with Nyoibō. The Tamagami handily knocks Goku away, and is even able to dodge the extending staff at the last second. The hammer can be independently controlled and gets called back to the Tamagami, but Goku realizes this and hops on top of it. The two resume striking and blocking against each other, but even when it seems that Goku gets a few good hits in and trips the Tamagami to its knees, its speed allows it to recover and keep pace with seemingly no issue.
As the two keep fighting, the entire town starts to gather on the outskirts to watch. Panzy is truly amazed by Goku’s power, and Kaiōshin notes that Goku has already fully acclimated to the dense air here.
Goku seemingly gets trapped between two cliffs, but uses Nyoibō to flip himself back around. The Tamagami throws its hammer once more, which Goku struggles to hold back with Nyoibō. More and more power gets put behind the hammer, but Goku pushes it to the side… and transforms into a Super Saiyan! The hammer flies back toward the Tamagami, but Goku nonchalantly flips over top it to avoid being hit, then strikes it with Nyoibō to break the hammer from its hilt before it crashes back to the ground. It’s time to get serious! The Tamagami agrees, and strikes a pose before rushing in with a punch. Goku stops the advance with a single palm before attacking on his own. The Tamagami seems to use a continuous ki blast, which Goku was not expecting! This prompts Goku to do the same, using it as cover to rush back in. The two continue to trade blows, now supplemented by larger energy attacks. The Tamagami uses its power to make eruptions blow out of the ground, which prompts Goku to start forming a Kamehameha. The Tamagami responds in kind by forming a massive energy blast from its own palms, which it fires upward at Goku. The two blasts clash, but the Kamehameha seems to easily overwhelm the Tamagami, pushing it back across the outskirts of town, all the way into a mountain. Goku pushes more power down toward the Tamagami, which somehow manages to deflect it upward, where it explodes in the sky. Without missing a beat, however, Goku is already in with an elbow to the chest before the Tamagami has time to make another move. Goku is ready to continue, the the Tamagami submits: the fight is over! Goku wonders why since it can clearly still fight, but the Tamagami understands the scope of Goku’s power now. Goku is ready for his Dragon Ball, but apparently there is still a final battle yet to come!
More townsfolk continue to gather around as things shift to nighttime and the Tamagami sets up for this “final battle”… whatever that is. The Tamagami sits down back at its pedestal and creates a series of five cups (each with their own little Tamagami head), then pulls the Dragon Ball from its chest and places it under one of the cups. Goku will have to win this shell game! Panzy thinks this is pretty cheap considering what Goku just went through for a battle, but Kaiōshin recognizes that this is still its own battle in a way. Goku is ready, though! The Tamagami begins to move the cups around, slowly at first, then building in speed until it seems impossible to keep track of them. Goku continues to watch intently, unblinking. The Tamagami finally stops, and Panzy thinks it’s impossible! Even Kaiōshin was unable to keep up after a certain point. The Tamagami asks where the Dragon Ball is, and almost without emotion, Goku nods to the side saying that it’s over there. The Tamagami presses Goku asking which cup, but Goku smiles and points back behind him… where a Dragon Ball is hovering over an unknowing townsperson’s head! Goku explains that the Tamagami tossed it away toward the end. This is correct, so the Dragon Ball is Goku’s to take! The Tamagami hands it over to Goku, and the holographic Dragon Ball sitting in a tree above them disappears. The Tamagami extends its hand to bring the hammer and hilt back to fuse together again, and then stands strong telling Goku that it likes him: he’s a fair fighter, and it wishes Goku luck against the other two! Goku thanks the Tamagami, bows, and turns around with his first Demon Realm Dragon Ball!
The whole town cheers and follows along with the group as they depart. Glorio hangs back as he gets a call on his communicator: he confirms that they have obtained the Third Demon World’s Dragon Ball, and Dr. Arinsu on the other end says she didn’t expect things to go this smoothly! Hanging up, she says it’s time to move on to her main plan…
Part B
The townsfolk wave goodbye as Glorio takes off with Goku, Panzy, and Kaiōshin. The Tamagami pauses from practicing the Kamehameha hand motions to also wave goodbye as the plane flies into the distance.
Panzy can’t believe how strong Goku truly is, and that he can even use magic with those weird lights he shot from his hands. Goku supposes it’s magic in a way. More importantly, he’s starving, and chomps down on dumplings. Panzy wonders how his body even works. Kaiōshin asks where they’re heading next, and Glorio responds that they’re off to Warp-sama so they can travel to the Second Demon World. They’ll have to fly in such a way as to not be discovered, because even though Panzy took out the military police’s communicators for now, the very fact that someone defeated a Tamagami will raise all sorts of new alarms.
Gomah and Degesu are back at it reviewing the events of the battle with Boo on Earth, concentrated on Vegeta’s explosion and Boo subsequently reforming from all the small pieces. Degesu notices something in the background, and zooms in to see Dr. Arinsu collecting a piece of Boo! Gomah theorizes that Dabra probably told her about Boo, but still doesn’t know what it is she might have been up to.
Meanwhile, Arinsu sits atop her equivalent of a witch’s broom, seemingly releasing some gas into the air. She lets herself in to a building and floats inward. Arinsu asks “Marba” how it’s going. The old witch calls over a spoon to test what’s bubbling in her cauldron; apparently the sample of Majin Boo that Arinsu brought really brings the flavor together. They bring the concoction outside, and Arinsu says that it better work this time — the last Majin couldn’t even beat her! They won’t know until it’s complete, though; it should be fine with the essence of Majin Boo added. Arinsu presses on this, asking if Marba wasn’t the one who created Boo in the first place. Marba twitches, and after a brief pause, says that no, it was the wizard Bibbidi who created Boo. Arinsu says she knows the truth, though: all Bibbidi did was come to her and ask her to make Boo, since he never had that kind of ability to create Boo himself. Boo threw the entire Demon Realm into chaos, and the other members of Arinsu’s race left to the outside world, and some were event killed. Marba wonders if that’s so, but Arinsu says not to worry; she won’t tell anyone. Pausing yet again after dripping out the entire concoction, Marba says that thing was just a fluke, but regardless, you could hardly call him a success. He was powerful, but couldn’t be controlled, which is why he went on a rampage. Arinsu is counting on her, because even though she’s a genius scientist, even she can’t create a Majin. Marba has focused on controllability this time, and Arisu is asked to provide a bit of her saliva so that she can communicate with it without even having to speak. Green light starts shooting out, and Marba says that if it works, she expects a great reward. Arinsu tentatively agrees, but only if she becomes the Great Demon King. Marba cautions her that Gomah may not look like much, but he’s actually quite powerful. Arinsu says not to worry, because even if things go wrong, she’ll just use the Dragon Balls. Marba is shocked at this news, saying that it’s impossible. Arinsu says not to be so sure, since she has her own pawns in play and one Dragon Ball has already been obtained!
Hybis gets a call from a clearly-inebriated King Kadan, who shares the good news that Goku has already defeated the first Tamagami and gotten its Dragon Ball! Everyone is having a giant celebration back at the castle. Kadan says the group is heading to Warp-sama, so Hybis and company should just go meet up directly there. Since Glorio and the others stole a military plane, it should only take a couple days to get there. Hybis and his crew can spend the night in a hotel. Hearing this, Hybis asks if he can drink wine, and specifically mod-colored wine. Kadan agrees to this, saying the feast is on his dime! Bulma is excited about staying in a hotel and eating good food here in the Demon World! Hybis repeats that mud-colored wine is good, and Bulma wonders what it takes like. It tastes like mud. Piccolo and Vegeta finally chime in, and Vegeta is just now realizing that the Demon World has Dragon Balls, too. Hybis confirms this, and asks in return if Earth has Dragon Balls. Vegeta wants to hear more, but Hybis doesn’t respond; Vegeta isn’t even a king and acts so arrogant, so Hybis ignored him. Vegeta swallows his pride and asks more politely, prompting Bulma to crack up.

Episode Notes
- Keeping up with the series’ ongoing inconsistency between formal episode title cards and titles written in the lower corner overtop footage, episode 8 overlays the title atop footage.
- As done with the series’ first two episodes, no eyecatch animation or jingle is used to indicate the commercial break. As “Part A” of the episode concludes and prepares to cut to the commercial break, the Dragon Ball Daima series logo appears in the lower left corner. When the episode returns from commercial break, the logo remains visible before fading away.
- While not perfectly reconciling with it (perhaps yet?), this episode’s exposition about Boo seems largely based on and adapted from information franchise creator Akira Toriyama first delivered in the “Twel-Boo Mysteries” interview from the June 2014 issue of Shueisha’s Saikyo Jump magazine (released in May 2014):
How did Bibbidi make Majin Boo? What process was there, what were Boo’s ingredients, etc…
Though in the manga Kaiōshin said that Bibbidi made him, the truth is that one called “Boo” was not actually created by Bibbidi, but has existed since time immemorial. He cycled between rampages and long hibernation. During numerous iterations of this cycle, he absorbed the evil elements of mankind, becoming steadily more violent. Bibbidi merely knew the means of calling Boo from out of his long slumber. Since the current Boo is a slightly different life-form due to the changes brought about when the evil Boo was expelled, it’s not known whether he’ll still go into long hibernation.
Character & Location Names
-
Great Witch Marba (大魔女マーバ; Dai Majo Māba)
The “Great” (大; dai) “Witch” (魔女; majo, literally “devil/demon” and “woman”) is named something that can be transliterated as “Marba,” “Marva,” “Maaba,” etc. (with the elongated “ā” generally indicating an “er” sound, as with ザーボン and “Zarbon”). It could be that “Marba” takes her name almost directly from a description (with an extra syllable extension): taking the first sounds from each word, she is a demon (魔; ma) and she is an old woman (ばば; baba). It could also be that the character’s name has roots in some kind of flower-adjacent word that we have not come across yet, but all variations we’ve seen thus far seem like too much of a stretch. Until such time that we get a better idea or even confirmed basis for the name, we have gone with “Marba” for a spelling. The official English simulcast subtitles go with “Marva” for a spelling.
Staff & Cast
- Mami Horikoshi makes her Dragon Ball franchise debut as the Great Witch Marba.
Animation Alterations
Various scenes were altered in composition, special effects, and/or for content between initial trailers and the final episode broadcast. These include (but are not limited to) the following scenes. - As Goku charges up his Kamehameha, the golden aura surrounding him comes in earlier in the final broadcast episode compared to the initial trailer.
- The brightness of Goku’s blast is blown out a tad but more in the final broadcast episode compared to the initial trailer.
