Episode Summary

Opening

When seven magic Dragon Balls are collected and the password is recited, a dragon named Shenlong appears to grant the summoner any wish.

Son Goku is an incredible warrior who lived in the mountains as a child, searched for the Dragon Balls while going on many adventures, and grew into adulthood with his new friends.

One day a vicious battle race called the Saiyans arrived on Earth — it seems that Goku was himself a Saiyan that had been sent to Earth as an infant. Saiyans maintain a youthful body for much of their lives.

Throughout his life, Goku continued to face terrifying enemies and overcome these challenges to protect Earth. Now the Earth faces a new threat…

Part A

Gomah is losing his mind over this group getting a second Dragon Ball, and Degesu admits they’ll be coming here to the First Demon World. In that case…!

Degesu confirms for Gomah that most of the military police are here in the First Demon World. Gomah calls for Warp-sama to be disabled! If they can’t use Warp-sama, they won’t be able to come here. Degesu says he’s never heard of this being done, but Gomah continues his rampage.

Degesu makes his way down creepy hallways and opens a magical lock atop a giant lever. Hesitating at first, he pulls it down, which disables Warp-sama.

The ship Glorio and the others are flying is still popping off and losing altitude; it seems the engine is failing. They begin plummeting down and holding on for dear life, and thankfully everyone is OK after the crash (albeit a little jumbled up). Panzy will work on the repairs, leaving the others to take a look around. The area seems filled with giant plants, though Goku sees some buildings off in the distance.

It seems they lost all their tools during the kraken attack, but Bulma pulls out a Hoi-Poi Capsule — an invention of her father’s at Capsule Corporation! When she tosses the capsule, it explodes and leaves behind a fully-stocked toolbox! Panzy is extremely impressed, but Hybis wonders if she can do that with his socks.

Vegeta thinks their group of fighters should just go ahead and fly onward to the First Demon World, but Kaiōshin says that mortals can’t just pass through Warp-sama on their own.

Neva suddenly realizes where they are…! They need to get out of here right away, because this is Planet Mega! Kaiōshin notes that this is the second most terrifying planet in the Demon Realm. It’s not just the people; everything here is enormous, and even the Supreme Demon King and military police don’t come here! Goku thinks they’ll handle it fine, but Glorio says they should definitely hurry up.

Hybis acts as a stepping stool for Panzy (and later Bulma) so they can reach and work the ship repairs, but it’s messing up his pants.

Watching the military police commotion down below, Arinsu can tell that something has happened. Just then, she gets another secret call from Glorio, who reports in that they have the second Dragon Ball and are heading there next. Arinsu laughs to herself, saying she has all three Dragon Balls now…

Bulma and Panzy get along working on the repairs together. Panzy explains that the shiny green thing is Majilite, which is what powers everything, and helps them stay in the air. It reacts with acidic water to produce energy, and can last for 30 years. Acidic water seeps from the Third Demon World, which reacts and makes it shine like there’s a sun. On top of that, depending on the water composition, the color can also change. Panzy’s never seen the sky before, though! Bulma wonders if you can just get all the Majilite you want, but Panzy says the Demon King controls everything, and it’s so valuable that taking any is punishable by death. That said, her dad can probably help them steal some!

Goku is still wandering around and eating, but he seems to have been spotted… by a giant hamster! The creature keeps chasing Goku around, and Vegeta says to just defeat it… but Goku thinks that’s too cruel. All of a sudden a whole horde of hamsters rushes in after the whole group. They’re not really a challenge other than being rather persistent (and a little tickly), but there are a ton of them to hold off while the repairs are still underway.

Giant foot stomps get everyone’s attention, and the hamsters scatter back to the grass and bushes. Piccolo and the others fly up into the air to scout things out… and see a giant trotting along! Neva collapses a bit and says that this is a Megath… but only just a child!

Part B

The giant child continues his walk, unaware of the tiny heroes flying alongside him. Neva explains that the bag he’s wearing means he’s probably coming home from school. The giant sits with some food in hand, and another creature waddles its way up next to him. Various books and other items fall out of its bag, including pencils that come crashing toward the ground like giant swords. The food the giant is eating is friend kraken tentacle — he must have bought it at a store on his way home. The monster dog has picked up on our heroes, and starts sniffing around. A sneeze brings Goku into full view, truly setting it off. Goku flies away to escape, but the dog is locked in! Glorio’s gun fire distracts him, but then Vegeta is forced to save the day with an uppercut. At this point the plan is to keep the monster away from the plane so Bulma and Panzy can finish repairs. A series of flight paths and ki blasts do little more than tickle and excite him, though.

Goku finds himself in a strange, blue garden of thin hairs; he’s in the hair of the dog. Another set of bizarre red eyes come after him — it’s ticks from the dog! Goku jumps off the dog and Piccolo helps fight back, but Goku is smacked off into the distance toward the ship. The dog then notices the shining, reflecting light coming from the plane, and turns its attention that way. Blasts from Piccolo and Glorio do nothing to slow it down, and as Bulma and Panzy watch in horror as this crazy monster dog jumps at them, Goku fires a Kamehameha from the distance to block its attack.

The giant child finishes its kraken and tosses the leftover claw to the ground. Panzy and Bulma are done with the repairs just in time! Hybis thought he’d be turned into a fossil. Vegeta and Piccolo will keep the monster distracted, but now the giant child has found the plane and is poking at it. He’s so large that even a simple little blow from his mouth is enough to throw the plane off balance, so Glorio has a tough time keeping them going. Goku finally flies in and stops the giant’s hand, but even he’s having a tough time holding it back. Goku gets flopped around while the giant keeps swinging at the plane. Vegeta and Piccolo fire more blasts, btu the giant then grabs his rule to keep swiping at them. Goku is stuck inside the giant’s clothes… and then falls into his bag. The rule is about to hit again when Goku flies out as a Super Saiyan with Nyoibō to block. Just as the giant’s foot is about to crush Goku, Glorio flies in with the plane to grab him and rush away. The giant checks his foot to see what happened as the dog yaps away at them…

Neva says that adult Megaths are even more terrifying! Goku wonders why they don’t just become Demon King, but Kaiōshin explains that they’re so laid-back that they don’t care about such things. Piccolo thinks they’re pretty terrifying. Vegeta just realizes that this was only described as the second-most-terrifying planet in the Demon Realm, begging the question of what’s worse. Neva says there’s the Planet of Giga, where the Gigaths are even larger.

Goku looks out the plane to see a group of Megath children walking home from school, and Piccolo says that’s the Demon Realm for you.

The group flies off as colorful bits rise around them.

Episode Notes

  • Keeping up with the series’ ongoing inconsistency between formal episode title cards and titles written in the lower corner overtop footage, episode 13 has a traditional title card.
  • It is impossible to ignore the similarities between this Dragon Ball Daima episode and Dragon Ball GT‘s sixth episode — both feature flora and fauna larger than normal, as well as a notable giant.

Character & Location Names

  • Mega (メガ; mega)
The characters land on the “Planet of Mega” where (hoshi) can mean “star” but also a general heavenly body, such as a planet like this. Both Neva and Kaiōshin use the phrasing “Planet of Mega” (メガの星; mega no hoshi) to refer to it.
  • Megath (メガス; megasu)
Rather than something like メガ人 (mega-jin) or メガ星人 (mega-seijin), the inhabitants of this planet are called “Megath” — メガス (megasu) — directly in Japanese.
  • Majilite (マジライト; majiraito)
The special item that Panzy describes to Bulma is called “Majilite” — perhaps a combination of “magic” and “light” and/or the “-ite” suffix commonly used for mineral names.
  • Hamster (ハムスター; hamusutā)
The hamsters that attack the heroes are referred to by the English word “hamster” (the same as it would normally be done in Japanese).
  • Dog (; inu)
Though not otherwise named by anyone else (and not even credited with a voice!), Goku supposes that he’s landed on the “dog” using the standard Japanese word (inu).
  • Tick (ダニ; dani)
When Goku jumps off the dog surrounded by bugs, Piccolo calls them out as ダニ (dani) or “ticks”.
  • Giga (ギガ; giga)
Neva refers to “a planet called Giga” (ギガっていう星があって; giga tte iu hoshi ga atte).
  • Gigath (ギガス; gigasu)
Similar to the Megath earlier in the episode, the inhabitants of the planet named Giga are called “Gigath” — (ギガス; gigasu) — directly in Japanese.

Staff & Cast

  • Yasuhiro Takato plays the Megath Child. Takato is perhaps most recently known as the voice of Universe 6’s Botamo in Dragon Ball Super, as well as Gurd and Yamu in Dragon Ball Kai.
  • Yūsuke Numata continues the bit parts in Dragon Ball Daima as one of the hamsters. Numata is perhaps best known as Baby in Dragon Ball GT.
  • Erina Gotō and Shiho Amuro play the other hamsters — Gotō also plays Dende and Amuro plays Majin Boo here in Dragon Ball Daima.
