Episode Summary

Part A

Goku has transformed up to Super Saiyan 3, while everyone else catches their breath and watches on. Gomah gets in line about more of this magic, but Goku launches an immediate, stonefaced punch to Gomah’s gut. Goku continues the assault with physical and energy attacks alike, forcing Gomah on the defensive. Doo and Koo in particular are impressed, and Koo has an idea as Doo and Tamagami Number One rejoin the fight. Goku and the others get knocked down, but Koo runs in and tosses a gigantic chocolate cookie to Doo. Koo yells that Doo can power up as well, and in response Doo lets loose with an incredible amount of power. Looking over at Goku doing the same, Doo pushes himself even further, with Super Saiyan 3-esque tentacles growing out his head. Goku, Doo, and the Tamagami resume their assault, now with their added power. Things are looking great for a little while, but Doo seems to peter out almost immediately, returning to normal in the process. This leaves things back to just Goku and the Tamagami, and Gomah’s extra Third Eye power is enough to keep them at bay. Gomah lands a solid series of punches and kicks to Goku, finally staggering him to the ground.

Gomah prepares a gigantic blast above him with one hand as Goku watches in horror. Neva suddenly appears above Goku, raising a hand and pushing a small pulse of blue energy into him. Goku floats up in a rippling, dream-like vision as the energy pulses through him. Fur begins to grow on his body, his hair turns red, and his tail even grows back! Gomah throws the energy blast down at Goku… but Goku is able to push it right back! Rippling with muscles and fur in this new transformation (albeit still a small body!), Goku lets loose with his own enormous blast of energy, ready for the next round.

Part B

Goku and Gomah repeatedly crash into each other, but Goku is eventually able to halt Gomah and send him flying a few times. Goman’s Third Eye resonates, giving him a boost to return the favor. Goku’s little body is able to dodge and slink around Gomah a bit, eventually landing a decent sized blast right to Gomah’s face. Gomah tanks the blast, but the fight no longer seems as one-sided as it originally did. The other fighters get to their feet and join once more. None of the enery blasts seem to do much, leading to another physical assault from Goku, which finally pushes Gomah back. Goku powers up some more as Glorio and Piccolo each power up their respective attacks for a combined lightning and Makankōsappō. Gomah fires back, cancelling out their blasts. Goku starts to form a Kamehameha, but is only able to get the “Ka-” out before Gomah lands a punch square to the face, sending Goku off into the distance. Goku recovers mid-air, continuing to form the Kamehameha… and firing it with a twirl back around at Gomah!

Goku lands to look down over the resulting crater, as everyone else stands around largely speechless. A strange purple energy starts to grow out of the crater, which quickly envelopes the entire fighting arena. A gigantic hand shoots out from below, as even even bigger Gomah lifts himself out!

Gomah is strong and fast for his huge size, easily punching back at Goku and then sealing him thanks to the Third Eye. Goku is knocked down to Super Saiyan 3, and then Super Saiyan.

Glorio gets a call on his communicator — it’s Arinsu from across the way, asking for Glorio to bring her the other two Dragon Balls.

Goku is knocked down to his normal form, and released to the ground.

Glorio tells Hybis that it’s too dangerous, and to give him the Dragon Balls. Glorio walks them over to Arinsu, who plans on using the Dragon Balls to wish to be the new Demon King with the power to defeat Gomah! She calls for him to hurry up and summon Porunga, which is why she had him learn the Namekian language. Glorio reflects on his journey thus far, with all the progress he’s made with his new friends and the power they’ve shown. Glorio puts the Dragon Balls together and speaks: T-Takkaraputo Popporunga Pupirittoparo!

The Dragon Balls glow and explode in a burst of energy, and a red dragon that otherwise looks like the Porunga from Planet Namek appears in the sky! Everyone is shocked at what they see, not the least of which being Glorio as an apparent traitor working for Arinsu.

The dragon asks for the wish, but Gomah rushes in to attack; the dragon simply flicks him away. Arinsu continues on, telling Glorio to speak her wish to the dragon. Glorio hesitates, but eventually speaks once more: Poltotep Sari Kontoputtorahtons Tela Chilldopp!

The dragon’s eyes glow, and energy swirls around him…

Episode Notes

• Keeping up with the series’ ongoing inconsistency between formal episode title cards and titles written in the lower corner overtop footage, episode 18 overlays the title atop footage.
• Unlike all other episodes, only the first half of the standard eyecatch plays, while the Daima logo is superimposed down in the corner both before and after the commercial break.

Character Designs

• Super Saiyan 4 — originally designed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru for the 1996-1997 television series Dragon Ball GT — makes its return here anew with a redesign in child form for Dragon Ball Daima.

  

  

• It is likewise impossible not to notice the similarity between Ultimate Shenlong in Dragon Ball GT and the Demon Realm Porunga here in Dragon Ball Daima, each of them effectively a red palette swap of another dragon.

  

  

Translation & Language

• Glorio’s incantation of タッカラプト ポッポルンガ プピリットパロ (Takkaraputo Popporunga Pupirittoparo) matches exactly that as used to summon Porunga on Planet Namek in the original Dragon Ball series; this is adapted in the official simulcast English subtitles as “Takkarapto Popporunga Pupiritparo” (with a sutter from Glorio on the first syllable resulting in “T-Takkarapto”). This is at odds with the incantation Neva previously used in episode 14 of ポルタラット ドッドルシー プピリットパロ (Porutaratto Doddorushii Pupirittoparo) to dismiss the light shields, perhaps implying no dragon involvement there, as the middle “word” in every other Namekian dragon incantation has been that respective dragon’s name with a doubled-first-syllable (e.g., “Popporunga” and “Totoronbo”).
• Glorio’s wish in “Namekian” is ペルトテップ サリ コントプットラートンス テラ チルドップ (Perutoteppu Sari Kontoputtorātonsu Tera Chirudoppu); this is adapted in the official simulcast English subtitles as “Poltotep Sari Kontoputtorahtons Tela Chilldopp”.

Staff & Cast

• Ryūzaburō Ōtomo plays the Demon Realm Porunga, having inherited the standard Porunga role from both the late Junpei Takiguchi and Daisuke Gōri.
