Episode Summary
Champa calls Beerus to challenge Universe 7 to a baseball game in order to “cultivate the friendship” between the two universes. Beerus agrees, after some prodding from Whis, and Champa thinks playing on Universe 7’s Earth would only be fair, since he came up with the idea. Beerus accepts the challenge, and the two gods vow not to lose to the other.
After hanging up, Champa laughs at Beerus for being such a chump and falling for his trick so easily, revealing that his aim is to steal delicious food from Universe 7. Best of all, he will have others play for him! Vados suggests Champa should play, as exerting one’s self in sport can make food even tastier. Champa thinks it over, and asks Vados to explain this baseball thing to him again.
Now on Earth, both teams have assembled at the baseball stadium. Beerus, sitting on a bench, announces he is the coach for Universe 7 and that no matter what it takes, they must win! The team, comprised of Goku, Gohan, Yamcha, Piccolo, Kuririn, and Trunks, are not too convinced… and Yamcha thinks he should be the captain, if they want to actually win.
Over on the Universe 6 bench Champa tells his team, made up of Cabba, Botamo, Magetta, Vegeta and Goten, to just get a good sweat, to which Vegeta smirks in disbelief. Vados and Whis call the two teams to home plate, and Goku wants to know where Hit and Frost are. Champa says getting a hold of Hit is such a pain, so Vegeta and Goten are filling in to even up the teams. With that, Vados sets the ground rules and the teams take the field.
Watching from the sideline, No. 18 wonders if Yamcha is really suited to be captain. Bulma thinks Yamcha will do fine. Besides, it is the one thing he is actually good at. Or rather, no one else understands it…
Goku takes the mound and Gohan, who is catching, comes out to give him some words of encouragement. Goku’s excited to battle, but is still curious how to play baseball… Champa comes to the plate as the first batter. Beerus tells Goku to not let Champa get a hit, or else, and so Goku transforms to Super Saiyan Blue and throws the baseball with all his might. The energy in the pitch creates a deep channel on the way, with the ball vaporizing in Gohan’s glove and blowing out the backstop. “Strike!” Champa cannot believe it. There is no way that can be a strike! Vados and Whis restore the field, and warn Goku that destruction of the field is prohibited.
Goku delivers another pitch, although this time he tosses it very slowly… so slow that everyone is falling asleep watching it. Champa smirks and crushes the ball into space… but it was foul, so that’s strike two. Goku decides to throw his third pitch just right, although Champa hits this pitch as well. Champa begins jogging to first base, bragging about how great he is, since that is clearly a home run. However Trunks fires a ki blast which hits the ball, knocking it straight back down where he catches it. Champa is livid, but Vados says there are no rules against using ki techniques to knock down balls, as laughs from the bench.
Yamcha thinks he should pitch, since Goku is not doing so well. Up next is Botamo, who does not think Yamcha will be much of an opponent. However, Yamcha uses his skills to manipulate the ball’s path and easily strikes out Botamo with three straight pitches. Next up is Cabba, who also strikes out without even touching the ball. Everyone on the sideline is impressed with how good Yamcha actually is.
Universe 6 takes the field and Yamcha is batting first, with Vegeta pitching. Yamcha, completely full of himself now, calls his shot and tells Vegeta to give up before he smashes it. Bulma wishes them both good luck, but Vegeta thinks he has gotten too cocky and hits Yamcha square in the side with the pitch. Yamcha buckles in pain, as Whis awards him first base for being hit by the pitch. Vegeta (and Goku) cannot believe you are not allowed to hit people in this game.
Goku then comes to the plate, and the two Saiyans transform to Super Saiyan Blue. Vegeta throws the pitch with all his might and Goku’s bat connects with the ball, but he cannot hit it. Goku struggles to push the ball forward, and so Vegeta fires a slew of ki blasts to push the ball before finally preparing to unleash a Final Flash attack. Seeing his chance, Yamcha takes off to steal second base, which distracts Vegeta just enough to allow Goku to hit the ball. Botamo catches the ball and Yamcha returns to first base, but Botamo has errantly thrown the ball, and so Yamcha turns and runs back to second base. Vegeta gets the ball, but instead of tagging Yamcha, Champa knees him high into the air from behind. Yamcha crashes down hard on second base, creating a crater in the shape of his body. “Safe!” Champa cannot believe it, but Vados says that he obstructed with Yamcha’s path to the base, so he is safe.
Gohan is up to bat, but before that Piccolo advises him to hit the ball toward Magetta since he cannot fly. As Yamcha ponders whether he will survive this game, Gohan hits the ball at Magetta. Botamo runs straight over and Magetta propels him into the air where he catches the ball. Piccolo is shocked, and Yamcha tags up at second base and begins running to third. Botamo prepares to throw the ball back, but Champa grabs it out his hand and hurls it right into Yamcha’s back. The impact knocks Yamcha into third base, and Champa protests that he is out. Vados explains you must be holding the ball to tag him out, you cannot just hit people with the ball.
Champa mocks Yamcha, telling him he should leave the game due to injury since he is a wuss just like his coach. Beerus rushes over, livid at Champa for calling him a wuss. The two begin talking bad about each other, before it finally escalates into a brawl. As the Gods of Destruction begin exchanging blows, the shockwaves and energy start destroying everything around them, including the baseball field. Just as Champa and Beerus are about to exchange massive punches, Vados and Whis step in and stop them. Whis says they are calling the game, since destruction is against the rules. Beerus is bummed the game will end in a tie, but Vados points out that Universe 7 actually won…
Everyone looks over to see that there is a giant crater around home plate. It turns out that amidst the chaos, Yamcha managed to steal home! Universe 7 is overjoyed, and Kuririn notes he recognizes Yamcha’s pose atop home plate (it is the same as after he was blown up by a Saibaiman), which brings back some bitter memories. Yamcha opens his eyes and says he had his own kind of walk-off.
As Universe 6 rides back after suffering such a defeat, Champa says they must practice and never lose again. Vados chuckles, happy to see Champa has lost sight of his original aim.
