Episode Synopsis
Part A
Piccolo, Gohan, and Goten can hardly believe that Goku is dead! Hit’s blow to his heart has done the job, and Piccolo finds he cannot even resuscitate him with energy shocks to the chest. But then Gohan suddenly notices something falling toward them from up in the sky. The three jump out of the way just as Goku’s ki blast he had fired straight up into the air as he died comes falling back to Earth, landing right on Goku and reviving him.
Goku stands up to resume the battle, thinking Hit may appear at any moment, but instead Gohan and the others run over. Goku wonders what they are doing here, and where Hit has gone off to. Goten vows revenge on Hit for he did to his dad, but Goku insists it’s a battle between just them. Although he knows it’s selfish, Goku won’t be satisfied until he settles the score with Hit, and the others reluctantly agree to let him continue with a rematch.
With their approval, Goku shouts out to Hit that he is still alive, hoping he has not left yet. Hit responds that he is sure he had killed him, but nobody can sense his ki. Piccolo notes that being an assassin, he must easily be able to keep his own ki masked. Goku insists that he came back to life right away, so that does not count, besides he now knows how to counter Hit’s technique. This intrigues Hit, and as Goku takes off for a nearby forest, Hit follows him discreetly. Hit refuses to show himself, and though Goku can sense Hit’s ki, he realizes this must just be a decoy and Hit is masking his real one, which is what enabled Hit to sneak up on him before.
Goku closes his eyes to concentrate as he searches through the fake ki signatures to find Hit’s true location, but before he can manage it, Hit attacks with a strange energy blast that goes straight through a tree (without harming the tree itself). Goku is grazed in the side by this blast, but survives, mockingly saying so much for Hit’s policy to always kill with the first strike. Now that he knows Hit’s firing invisible ki blasts, Goku invites Hit over to a wider area, a nearby cliff by the sea, and intentionally powers up so that Hit knows exactly where he is. Hit brags that he has never let a target get away yet, and he does not intend to start now.
Hit unleashes more invisible ki attacks, with Goku dodging and countering as best he can. After just three tries, Goku gets the hang of countering the blasts, and begins a counterattack, but his punches go straight through Hit, as if he were a ghost. Goku can tell Hit’s new trick is not the afterimage technique he used before either, but something different. Hit’s far better than he was at the tournament, but still is not going all-out. Hit suddenly appears above Goku and sends him crashing down into the ground. Goku pushes the rubble away and gets back up, but notes he has begun trembling. Hit notes that it’s not from excitement this time, but fear!
Part B
Meanwhile at Beerus’ planet, Vegeta has finally caught Whis, but still needs to do it another three times to complete his training. Completely worn out, he tries to convince Whis to let him off the hook in exchange for some steak dipped in some of his grandmother’s secret sauce (this is, naturally, a lie). Whis hungrily obliges.
Back on Earth Goku continues to struggle against Hit’s new technique, as all of his hits or kicks merely go through him. Champa and Vados have now arrived, and are observing the battle from afar. Champa is shocked that Goku is still alive, but does not understand why Goku cannot even touch Hit. Vados explains that by “saving” the time Hit skips while using his Time-Skip technique, he can create a separate dimension that he moves to in order to avoid Goku’s attacks.
Thinking he may have noticed what is going on, Goku rushes at Hit again and managed to scratch him. He’s figured out that Hit moves somewhere else when defending, which is why he cannot be touched. Goku presumes that because of this Hit can also not attack from this secure position; however, Hit demonstrates that he indeed can still attack by sending another invisible ki blast at him.
Champa says Vados was right to hire Hit to kill Goku — he would have been a real problem in Omni-King’s upcoming tournament. However, Vados explains that she was merely the intermediary to hire Hit on behalf of another party. Seeing Hit freely show off his skills, Vados realizes that he is now simply a martial artist enjoying a fight, rather than an assassin doing a job.
Goku is impressed with how amazing Hit has become, but says he never lets anyone who has beaten him get away with it. Just then Beerus, Whis, and Vegeta appear to observe their battle, and reveal that Vados and Champa are there, too. With everyone watching, Goku prepares to finish the fight. He begins charging up and the massive energy given off breaks through Hit’s protective Time-Skip dimension. With Hit exposed, Goku unleashes a Kamehameha that engulfs the dimension and eventually shoots off into the distance. As everything clears, the two are left exhausted lying on the ground.
Vegeta is mad that Goku seems to enjoy fighting Hit more than him. Goku swears that’s not the case, he’s just fighting for his life. Vegeta wants to know who would hire Hit in the first place, but taking a hint from Whis, realizes Goku himself hired Hit so that the two could fight again all-out. Goku admits that the jig is up, and he was the one that asked Whis to do it, who then had his sister Vados hire Hit on Goku’s behalf. Hit is shocked to hear all this, but Goku contends that he would not have wanted to fight him if he knew who hired him. With a smile on his face, Hit tells Goku to watch his back from now on, as with this many witnesses around now he will take his time to kill him, and then flies off.
Champa and Vados take off as well, just before Gohan and the others arrive with Chi-Chi. She’s been worried sick about Goku after Piccolo told her an assassin was after him! Goku sheepishly says he has no idea who hired the hitman, and whispering to Vegeta asks him not to spill the beans that was really him. With that done with, Beerus and Whis insist that Vegeta give them this steak with his grandmother’s secret sauce, as he promised them. Vegeta had forgot all about this promise; he had just made the whole thing up. Meanwhile, Goku looks forward to fighting Hit again, someday.
