Episode Summary
Part A
Jaco fires his ship’s cannon at Gohan, who manages to dodge. Down below, onlookers see the battle and wonder if they are filming the Great Saiyaman movie. The blast takes out a distant mountain, with the shockwave sending Gohan and Cocoa flying into Jaco’s ship. Jaco sees him and prepares to fire his blaster, but Gohan quickly reveals his identity. Jaco, being slow to recognize him by name, soon realizes he is Son Goku’s lackluster son, and wonders why he is wearing such a weird outfit. Jaco soon explains that he is looking for Watagash, a mental parasite that fuses with its host and powers them up; the more evil they are, the stronger it makes them. Watagash has even destroyed an entire civilization before.
Gohan wants to go tell Goku about this right away, but Jaco insists they keep this investigation as secret as possible. If Gohan keeps his lips shut, Jaco promises not to tell his wife about his flying date. Gohan protests that he and Cocoa are not on a date, as the two head off to her place to practice lines together.
As they practice, with Gohan doing numerous super hero poses, Cocoa thinks back to this whole scenario just being a set-up by Barry Kahn. He plans to get photos of Gohan at Cocoa’s house and leak them to the papers to cause a scandal, which he thinks will tear Gohan’s family apart. It will be payback for Gohan outshining him! Cocoa’s song sales are not so great these days either, and Barry threatens to end her career if she does not go along with it.
Cocoa goes to open the curtains for the photographer outside, but Gohan’s kind words of encouragement to her cause her to change her mind and keep them closed. Up on the roof after practice, Cocoa warns Gohan not to exit downstairs, and suddenly kisses him. Gohan flies off in embarrassment.
Cocoa thinks she has saved him from being photographed, by Barry himself was nearby taking pictures from a different spot, and gets the kiss on film. Amazed to see Gohan actually fly, he realizes Gohan must be the real Saiyaman, but considers this just more blackmail material.
As day breaks, Gohan returns home, where Videl assumes yesterday’s filming lasted all night. Before he can explain though, Barry arrives with the incriminating photos. Videl however is not impressed. She knows Gohan well enough to realize he is not the sort of person to do this, and that there must be some reason.
Barry next threatens to expose Gohan’s identity as Saiyaman to the media, but Gohan simply forces him to leave. Outside at his car, Barry stews in rage. He is soon spotted by Watagash, who quickly takes advantage of the opportunity and attaches to Barry, taking over his body.
Part B
Back inside the house Gohan and Videl are discussing the situation, when the powered-up Barry suddenly crashes through the wall, grabbing Gohan and knocking him out. When Gohan comes to, he finds that Barry has kidnapped Pan, leaving a message challenging Saiyaman to meet him at the TV station.
At the TV station, a crowd of TV reporters and bystanders gathers as Gohan arrives and begins fighting Barry, who under Watagash’s influence powers up into a giant blue ape creature. With Barry preoccupied, Videl flies up and takes Pan away to safety. Barry now powers up into an even bigger (properly Godzilla-sized) monster, and knocks Gohan into a nearby tower. Meanwhile, the film’s director arrives and starts filming the battle.
Jaco arrives and prepares to use his ship’s cannon against the Barry/Watagash monster, but Gohan stops him. Doing that would kill Barry, and he does not want Pan to witness that! At first Gohan seems to be losing to monster-Barry, but Videl is not worried. She explains to Cocoa that she knows Gohan would never lose in front of Pan!
Hearing Videl and Pan’s cheers, Gohan goes Super Saiyan (a form the director dubs “Super Great Saiyaman”) and counters monster-Barry’s beam with his own “Super Great Saiyaman Beam”. Barry is defeated, but still alive (Gohan explains that he held back). Jaco seals Watagash away in another container, and wonders what he should do with Barry, who has returned to his normal human form.
The completed film Great Saiyaman vs Mister Satan opens in theaters, with Gohan’s fight against monster-Barry incorporated into it with the explanation that the monster is the manifestation of the evil inside Saiyaman. Barry keeps Gohan’s identity as Saiyaman secret, since otherwise Cocoa would spill the beans about him being the monster. The entire Son family attends the movie, but Goku falls asleep; he enjoys fighting, but finds watching fights to be dull.
To celebrate, Jaco stops by the same ramen shop as before. Outside in his spaceship, Watagash’s container cracks open once again…
