Episode Summary

Part A

At Capsule Corporation, Goku is eating as Bulma asks him how his talk with Freeza went. Goku says it went well, but Vegeta cannot believe that Freeza actually agreed to fighting for them in exchange for twenty-four hours of freedom. Goku suggests that Freeza just wanted a change of scenery after being stuck in Hell for so long, but Bulma thinks Goku is hiding something. Kaiōshin says Goku is a terrible liar, and Vegeta demands that Goku tell them the whole story. Finally Goku confesses that he promised Freeza they would use the Dragon Balls to resurrect him if Universe 7 wins. Kuririn does a spit take, and everyone berates Goku for being so stupid, but Whis thinks it will be fine; as bad as it would be to have Freeza loose again, the destruction of the entire universe would be worse. Goku says they can just beat him again if he causes any trouble, but Vegeta and Kuririn still have their doubts.

Meanwhile, the Gods of Destruction of Universe 4 and Universe 9, Quitela and Sidra, are using a crystal ball to discuss the information gathered by Quitela’s spies, including Ganos who was dispatched to Universe 7. Quitela tells Sidra that Universe 7 plans to attack Universe 9 first, which Sidra finds unforgivable. Quitela suggests he strike first; Sidra asks how, and Quitela tells him that their last team member, Freeza, is a scoundrel with many enemies. He suggests Sidra target him before he joins the team so that he can escape discovery, and suggests he do it quickly as there is not much time before the Tournament of Power. Quitela believes that if Universe 7 lacks even one team member, they will probably be disqualified. Sidra realizes that his life would be in danger if their plot were to be discovered by the Omni-Kings, but Quitela suggests he use pawns from his universe to take on this task. He then says that he will see Sidra at the tournament, hopefully without Universe 7. Quitela terminates the connection and asks his Kaiōshin, Kur, to reaffirm that his plan is good. Kur is pleased; Quitela thinks that with Universe 7 out of the picture, their chances of winning are much greater. Kur wonders whether Sidra will really go through with it though, but Quitela is confident.

Back at Capsule Corporation, Trunks looks at a board with drawings of each team member and wonders who Freeza is. Bulma asks Trunks why he is still awake, and Goku asks her in a whisper if she has told Trunks and Goten about the tournament yet. She says she hasn’t, and asks whether he has told them, but he hasn’t either. Bulma and Vegeta realize that if they find out, that could complicate things. Bulma tells Trunks that this is a list of people coming to Bra’s birthday party, pointing out that several of them are already there. Trunks recalls that Freeza is that bad guy who died and wonders why he is coming to the party. Vegeta tells him, with great difficulty, that Freeza has reformed and he is a good guy now. Trunks seems appeased with that, but Vegeta screams internally about having to defend Freeza.

Goku asks Trunks if he wants to go to an island with monsters, and Trunks gets excited. Goku points at the picture of No. 17 on the team board, and says that his job is to protect the island from poachers. Trunks doesn’t know what this means, and so Goku explains, saying that No. 17 is unable to come to the party because his job is too important. Goku begs Trunks to take his place, along with Goten of course. Vegeta tries to object, but Trunks accepts immediately. Goku says they will be leaving soon, and suggests he go call Goten. Bulma and Vegeta realize that Goku offered this to No. 17 as a condition of his participation; Goku confesses and Bulma wants to know if it will be dangerous, but Goku is sure they can handle it.

Goku then asks Kuririn if he can take them to the island; Goku has to go see the Fortuneteller Crone to get Freeza. Kuririn says he doesn’t really get along with No. 17, but Goku says No. 17 isn’t a bad guy anymore and suggests he take No. 18 with him. Kuririn thinks about it and realizes that, since No. 18 has changed a lot, maybe No. 17 has too. He agrees to go. Goku tells Bulma that he has to bring a gift for the Fortuneteller Crone; Bulma agrees to get something for him.

At Karin’s Tower, the Turtle Hermit practices his Bankoku-Bikkuri-Shō on Yajirobe. He thinks that attacks like this and the Mafūba should be effective in a tournament with ring-outs. Karin yells at him to stop; the Turtle Hermit releases his hold on Yajirobe and apologizes for getting carried away. Karin says it is almost time to go; the Turtle Hermit agrees, and steps up on the railing, but before he can go, Karin asks him why he chose to do his final training here. The Turtle Hermit says that he wanted to remember the time he spent there training with Karin in his youth. He points out that Karin would have known this from his mind, but Karin says he wanted to hear him say it. Karin and Yajirobe wish him luck, but as he prepares to jump from the railing, he remembers that he cannot fly.

In the Universe 9 Kaiōshin Realm, Sidra and the Kaiōshin Rou discuss the situation at their crystal ball. Rou has seen on GodTube that Freeza is a ruthless individual who will destroy a planet without a second thought. Sidra asks what he thinks about Quitela’s proposition, and Rou thinks they should do it without hesitation. Sidra agrees and orders Rou to prepare the attack. The Angel Mohito is listening from a distance and seems amused by their plans.

Part B

Goku presents the Fortuneteller Crone with a gift. He tells her the gift is from Bulma, and the Crone is disappointed, thinking it is a regift. In any case, she agrees to go get Freeza. Goku wonders how things are going with Kuririn. Meanwhile on the island, No. 18 and No. 17 are reunited after all these years. No. 17 even notes that it has been a long time; No. 18 suggests he should be a little happier about it. Kuririn nervously proclaims relief that No. 17 is doing well while Trunks and Goten fly off to explore the island. Kuririn asks No. 17 if he is, in fact, doing well; No. 17 says he is the same as ever. Kuririn says that he hears No. 17 works away from home and invites him to come by their place for dinner some time; No. 17 declines, and Kuririn says he expected as much. No. 18 chides him for trying to make small talk.

Marron introduces herself to No. 17, and he observes she has grown. He tries to recall her name, and comes up with Maron; No. 18 corrects him and promises to kill him if he gets it wrong again. No. 17 apologizes to Marron and asks how old she is. She asks him how old he is, and he says he is 17. Waves crash, and everyone is temporarily paralyzed by his bad joke. No. 18 wonders what to do about the mood; No. 17 doesn’t know. Kuririn laughs, though, and tells No. 17 he is hilarious and No. 18 again chides him for trying to force it.

Trunks and Goten return from their tour of the island. No. 17 wonders whether it will really be okay to leave the island in their hands; Kuririn reminds him that they are the sons of Goku and Vegeta. No. 17 smiles, and says he supposes he should worry about the poachers instead. Kuririn says he told them to go easy on any poachers they encouter, and No. 17 thinks that is considerate. Kuririn tells the boys they are leaving it in their hands, and Marron announces that she is staying with them. Kuririn isn’t happy about this, as Marron was supposed to stay with Bulma. But Goten tells her they can protect monsters together, and No. 18 says that Marron can handle herself. Kuririn reluctantly concedes, promising Marron they will be back soon. Marron wishes them good luck with their “work”, which confuses Trunks.

Meanwhile, a submarine is spying on them some distance of the coast and a poacher thinks this will make things easier. The ranger has left the island under the protection of children! His companion points out that the children were flying though… so they probably are not normal children.

No. 17 and co. arrive at Capsule Corporation. Gohan reminds the team that, though they have had their differences in the past, they will need teamwork to win the tournament. Vegeta insists that he will just beat everyone himself. Piccolo files up to greet No. 17, and asks if No. 17 has gotten any stronger. No. 17 wants to know the same thing about Piccolo. Everyone watches nervously as they approach each other, but Piccolo takes off his turban and extends his hand, thanking No. 17 for joining them. No. 17 is surprised, but shakes Piccolo’s hand. Gohan is relieved, thanking Piccolo silently. The Turtle Hermit then arrives on Baby Gamera and Gohan says they were waiting for him. The Turtle Hermit looks closely at Gohan, seeming to observe something has changed about him. He tells Gohan that he looks well. Vegeta says that now they are only waiting on Kakarrot and…

Goku waits outside Fortuneteller Crone’s place on the arena where he and his friends fought in his childhood. He runs through a series of moves that he recalls from his fight with Grandpa Gohan. He stops when he senses the arrival of Freeza, entering the house to wait for him. Freeza arrives and takes a moment to disdain his halo. The Crone tells Goku to take him away, and as Goku thanks her Freeza suddenly punches him in the gut. Freeza apologizes, saying his hand slipped. Goku says it can’t be helped, and then punches Freeza in return, saying his hand slipped, too. The Crone tells them to get going and Goku holds out his hand to Freeza, who seems confused. Goku reminds him about his teleportation technique, and tells him, no more hand-slipping. Freeza laughs, and wonders what will slip next.

The Crone’s attendant enters and tells Goku that there are a lot of people outside who insist on seeing him and Freeza. Goku goes outside and asks a dog-like creature who they are. The dog says he can’t say. Goku asks if they are trying to keep them from the tournament, but he he can’t say. Goku asks who sent them, but again the dog can’t say. Suddenly, the dog’s shoulder is pierced by Freeza’s beam. Freeza apologizes, and says his hand slipped after all. Goku has a scratch on his face where the beam grazed his cheek. Freeza thinks this crowd is a good welcome.

Back at Capsule Corporation, Beerus is frustrated that Goku is late. Kuririn wonders what will happen if they don’t make it on time. Whis causually thinks they will be disqualified and erased. Kuririn hopes that Goku will hurry up. Goku tells Freeza that they don’t have time to fool around with these people; Freeza accuses him of running away, but Goku insists they don’t have time. Freeza says he won’t take much time. He begins his transformation into Golden Freeza and tells Goku that his body has gotten soft in Hell, so he needs a quick warm-up. He even invites Goku to join him. Nearby villagers react to Freeza’s transformation, and meanwhile, the Great Priest is constructing the tournament arena in the World of Void. Freeza apologizes to the intruders for skipping the complimentary services. He is short on time.
