My 60 year old father likes DragonBall Z. We watched through the first US DragonBox Z and a bit of the second one not too long ago.

I minored in Japanese, but haven't done much with it in a year or two and my kanji knowledge is very poor. I have enough of a basic understanding that I could probably translate simple manga with the help of kanji and vocab dictionaries.

The DragonBoxes have better video quality than anything available right now (who knows how the upcoming Blu-Rays will look in the end) and have all of the correct OP/ED videos, title cards, previews, etc. Beyond that, I don't think they have any actual episode scenes that were not in the season sets...
