Re: What are your other favorite non-Dragon Ball movies/shows

Very broad question, but I'll break it down a bit and keep it shortish. Favourite big ass multimedia franchises (of course Dragon Ball would fall in this category for me, placing either first or second, and in general there's some possible overlap with some of my TV and film choices, which could hav...

Re: How would you compare Dragon Ball’s revival to something like Star Wars?

I don't think anything in the Dragon Ball revival has reached the heights of Rogue One in terms of being a worthwhile addition to the overall mythology that I now can't imagine being without, despite just being a side story. However, nothing in the Dragon Ball revival to me has been as wasteful and ...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

No. I wish it hadn't happened. At worst, the material has been either painfully boring or actively harmful to the overall narrative. At BEST, it's an inoffensive diversion. That's not to say there haven't been things I have liked (BoG, Yamcha manga, Jaco). But at no point has it ever caused me to g...

Re: Your ONE favorite character and your ONE favorite version of him/her

Favourite character: Gohan Favourite version: Freeza Arc Gohan. This Gohan was a little pocket rocket. Dare I say, its almost like his later Great Saiyaman persona played completely straight in the most hostile and dangerous of environment Dragon Ball has ever had. He hates injustice against innocen...

Re: All Systems Goku (Giant Bomb side podcast)

The latest episode is really heavy with wrestling references. The one thing I could not tell if they were serious or being facetious was the back-and-forth about Shawn Michaels. Are they really not aware Shawn is coming out of retirement to be in a tag match with Triple H to face The Undertaker and...

Re: All Systems Goku (Giant Bomb side podcast)

I'm about 10 episodes into this podcast after Mike's recommendation in another thread, and I'm loving it. Absolutely love the constant pro wrestling references and the occasional Metal Gear ones (two of my other favourite things). Most of all, it's just great to experience the series again vicarious...

Nice to get confirmation of this. The fight scenes in Man of Steel me have always got my DBZ senses going.

I haven't been following the Dragon Ball Super dub at all, but getting Brian Drummond to play Copy Vegeta is pretty amazing.

This is really sad, losing one of the originals. RIP Hitomi.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past, I had that issue of Gamesmaster magazine with the Budokai 1 review. Unfortunately, my copy is long gone.

Thanks for reviving that memory.

Re: Super Episode 105 (27 August 2017)

Dragon Ball Super is a curious beast. A lot of the time, it feels underwhelming, but it has been fun having new Dragon Ball material to watch every week, which as a whole might not always live up to expectations, but is littered with nice little character moments that makes the surrounding mediocre ...

This almost made staying up until close to 5am watching Wrestlemania worthwhile. Almost. A great moment in a show lacking many memorable ones.

Ah, nice one Baggie_Saiyan. It really is a small world. The Wednesday showing sounded like it would've been an experience. Indeed! And yes it was, Wednesday we were supposed to be in Screen 9 like today but then they moved us down to screen 4 the bigger one and it was simply amazing. It was like be...

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '

Just came from a screening of this here in the UK. It's pretty surreal watching DB on the big screen after 15 years of being a fan of the series. Up until the last few years, never thought such a thing would be possible but here we are. Decent attendance too, I would say my screening was at least tw...

Re: What is it that allows DBZ to appeal to older audiences?

I think the aging of the characters is a big thing. They almost feel like legitimate old friends that you've grown up with that you don't necessarily need to be in constant contact with, but you can dip back in with and guarantee to have a good time. Plus I don't think you ever really outgrow watchi...

Lord Jesus! I'm a year away from being 30 but it's ridiculous the sheer emotion hearing this news has brought out. Watching Battle of Gods again a few weeks ago reminded me how much I still love the series, so the timing of the announcement is perfect. I really really like the Star Wars franchise an...

Re: Happy 15th Anniversary to UK Dragon Ball

What fun ride that run was. I started watching in August 2000 when we were in the Freeza saga when Freeza was fighting in his second or third form. It was a bit of a cluster f*** at times with the dub switching and channel swaps. But great memories overall, and those adverts really brings it back. A...

Re: Goku as the Main Character

I feel Goku is managed pretty well all in all by Toriyama as the main character. The first part of DB is undoubtedly Goku's story, both in terms of focus and actually doing most of the leg work to carry the plot along but by the time the Z-era arrived, Toriyama was pretty comfortable with having oth...
