Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"

Weirder than prioritize fights and animation above story and development? Nah, nothing can top that. I think Toei and everyone involved are banking on fans prioritizing the fights over the story and based on Broly's success, it worked. There was a story in Broly. The fighting didn't happen until a ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

that's also in the manga ... if you want to discuss the author's logic besides the record of things that bulma invent at the age of 14 that the trunks did not know how to drive the spaceship is mentioned in the series ... Bulma was 16 when we first meet her and even if she was just 14, she at least...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"

For the sake of comparison, here how all the modern Dragon Ball movies have performed when it comes to DVD and Blu-Ray sales in the their first week. Broly has been nothing short of an amazing success. I'm beginning to think that the reason behind 2uper's delay is to make some changes based on Brol...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Why would you think a silly looking picture would be convincing? The idea of putting something so important and complex in the hands of a person whose age isn't even in the double digits is so on its face silly - even for a story that revels in silliness. And it's flat out wrong that Trunks doesn't...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I can’t imagine what role Bra could’ve filled in the show. I guess it’s a bit strange that she completely disappeared from the anime after the Super 17 arc, but I think it’s a stretch to say that there was missed potential with her.

Re: The Trimark (BLT) Dub of Dragon Ball

Funi's redub of DB movie 1 was a goddamn mess. Basically, as I'm given to understand it, they based it on, I believe, the BLT script, but tried to remove some of the added dialogue, yet also didn't try to make the remaining dialogue account for the removal of dialogue properly, so some information ...

Re: The Trimark (BLT) Dub of Dragon Ball

The answer, as I'm sure you understand, is to have all of DB dubbed with the in-house cast. The really weird part is the script changes (damn near none of them are for the better). Why, just why did they feel the need to change the scripts of those three movies at all? Has anyone brought up how the...

I accept what they have done with Gohan in Super and GT and I really like what they did with Goten in GT.
I don’t think I even know how to describe Goten’s character in GT.

Re: DB's ending

What are a few of your favorite series finales? Batman Beyond Return of the Joker as an ending to the Batman animated saga. Terry not only got to fight the original Batman's main villain, he also beat him, something Bruce didn't do. He was finally accepted by Bruce and Barbra as the true Batman and...

Re: DB's ending

As much as I like BoG, I don’t agree with the notion that it was necessary to make the ending of the manga feel more “complete”. When Toriyama originally wrote that ending, the idea was that Majin Boo had been the most powerful opponent Goku had ever faced, which was why he was so excited about the ...

Re: DB's ending

I can dismiss every Terminator after T2, doesn't mean I wish they didn't try to continue the story past its logical conclusion. The problem is that the current wave of Dragon Ball content we’ve been getting isn’t technically a continuation of the story. Super is a midquel. At this point in time, th...

Re: DB's ending

These days, I find myself wishing that Battle of Gods would’ve just been a one time reunion film, rather than the beginning of an era of endless Dragon Ball related content.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

*Sigh* My general point is, DB has a whole has portions of darkness, seriousness as well as portions of light-heartedness and humor. Yet it's unacceptable to say it's generally the former, but acceptable to say it's generally the latter. Why? It’s really not generally the former. It’s overall a pre...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

The TV specials would probably qualify fit the bill. Two TV specials do not make the whole series. I never said they do, but they’re definitely notable for being pretty dark and humorless, especially by Dragon Ball standards. I’m obviously not suggesting that Dragon Ball as a whole is some gloomy a...

I have trouble believing that Sabat would give up his second biggest role just like that.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Here’s an opinion that I know for a fact would’ve been unpopular four years ago, and one that I assume is still fairly unpopular today: I’m tired of Beerus and Whis. When they were first introduced in BoG, I, like most fans, thought they were fun and quirky characters who added something new to the ...

Re: Am I The Only DB Fan Who Likes Jiren?

I would’ve appreciated Jiren more if he actually came across as a genuine superhero who just happens to be someone Goku has to fight. Unfortunately, the series decided to make him this brooding, trash talking loner with an extremely cliché backstory, and an even more cliché philosophy that essentia...

Re: Is Dragon Ball cynical at its core?

Pretty much this. I’m starting to think a lot of people on here are confusing “dark moments” with cynicism. Trunks arc (in Dragon Ball at least maybe not Super) is about as optimistic as it gets. Even if he can’t change his timeline he will save another future for a better tomorrow. We’re approachi...

Re: Is Dragon Ball cynical at its core?

Honestly I think the cynicism is one of the key reasons why DB appeals to adults so much. I'd definitely say it's the opposite. It's an uplifting story which takes adults back to a simpler time, thus providing escapism from the more depressing side of life. People who think it's cynical are drastic...
