Re: How much discussion of "canon" was there pre-BOG?

I remember canon talk as early as 2007-2008. GT got a lot of flack, and I remember the forums I'd frequent, YouTube comment sections, and my friends would all say "Well, GT doesn't matter. It isn't canon." I also remember people discussing certain moments from DB/DBZ on forums, and others constantl...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

I don't know what you're looking for out of fights. It's the same sort of thing we always saw out of DB. One character seems to have the upper hand only to find out someone's holding back. Ki does have quantifiable value to it. Some are more powerful than others. It’s not some characters being more...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

For instance? There were a lot of cases in the arc of the characters one-upping each other in a back and forth manner by constantly powering up. For example, first Vegeta beat up Zarbon, then Zarbon beat up Vegeta, then Vegeta beat up Zarbon again thanks to his convenient near death power up. The f...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

I was simply saying that I personally think telling us the stats of the characters made the fights feel less interesting as a result. But did they? That's a question you can give an answer to. Were the fights worse for having a numerical value to them? From where I'm sitting, we still got great fig...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

They were relying on something unreliable. It didn't take very long after discovering scouters to find ways to hide their full power from it. The numbers are shown to be BS in the show. The Ginyu Force underestimate Goku when he first arrives. Trunks' power was measured to be a measly 5, and Raditz...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

The weak point for the villains wasn’t really that they applied numbers to a person’s strength. It was that they couldn’t sense a person’s ki like the heroes could, which meant that they had to rely on their scouters, They're one in the same, they view their opponents as numbers because they've not...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

No? The whole point of battle powers were that warriors who had a greater mastery of ki could overcome those who didn't. After (or towards the end of) the Freeza arc they were dropped entirely, rarely mentioned again, if ever. The most powerful fighters winning were a thing since Dragon Ball starte...

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

I think one of the biggest mistakes Toriyama has made in regards to Dragon Ball was coming up with the entire concept of power levels to begin with. It completely sapped away the fun and creativity in the fights, and only served to spawn a bunch of debates about how high x character’s power level i...

Re: Does anyone else not get the argument that Vegeta “deserves” to kill Freeza?

Vegeta deserves the revenge more than Goku because Vegeta was basically enslaved by Freeza. I doubt Vegeta was allowed to just, quit, considering Freeza's fears about potential Super Saiyans. Freeza'd want all of them under his thumb, wearing scouters so he can keep track of them. Not to mention th...

Re: Does anyone else not get the argument that Vegeta “deserves” to kill Freeza?

While Vegeta does indeed have a personal vendetta against Freeza, I can’t say I agree that he “deserves” revenge on him. By all accounts, Vegeta was hardly any better than Freeza when he served under him. He was a sadistic murderer who had no regards for anyone, not even his own comrades. With that...

Does anyone else not get the argument that Vegeta “deserves” to kill Freeza?

I know that Resurrection ‘F’ is old news at this point, but it always seemed like the most talked about point of the film is the ending, where Goku “steals” Vegeta’s kill. Now, I’ve said this in the past, but I think RF is a pretty lousy movie. To me, it’s basically just shallow fan service and bori...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

And I'm not a fan of your suggested alternate titles. They sound silly and tell us nothing. Return of Cooler is a much more evocative title. Are "Big Gete Star" and "Dangerous Duo" really any sillier than "Tree of Might" and "World's Strongest"? I say that if FUNimation is going to change the origi...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

disagree that they told the audience nothing. They told just enough to catch the audience's attention without giving away the plot or antagonist. The fact that you can switch Z movies 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11's Japanese movie titles around almost randomly, and change absolutely nothing becas...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 8/5/19!)

I’ve noticed that there seems to be a newfound appreciation for DBZ Movie 8 in recent years, which I’d have to imagine is partially owed to Toriyama providing his own spin on the character. For a while, it seemed that with the increased stigma against Broly’s popularity and overuse in the franchise,...

Re: Should Z get yet another redub in English?

If you'd want Z to get a very accurate re-dub, Viz should be the one to dub it, not Funimation. While Funimation can do accurate dubs like with Kai, they also like to take liberties with their scripts. For example, they've gotten criticism for a particular line in their dub of Prison School. Didn’t...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I don’t know how unpopular this one is, but I prefer the names FUNimation gave for the movies than the ones Toei gave. Sure, some of the names were really basic, like Lord Slug and Super Android 13 , but they at least felt more like actual movie titles, and they’re much less vague than a lot of the ...

Re: Should Z get yet another redub in English?

It seems like this question has been asked a lot recently. Anyway, I say no. There’s no reason to do that when Kai already filled that role. Unless some people absolutely want to see a more accurate dub of something like the Garlic Jr. arc, I can’t even think of who the audience for that would be.
