Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Weirdly enough, The thing about the half breed saiyans not having the will to improve and push themselves like their full blooded fathers always kind of rubbed me the wrong way, at least when you incorporate the context of the original DB. When Goku went through his adventures as a kid, he contende...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
It’s not like Piccolo has any reason to dislike Yamcha, especially after he and Kami became one again.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Wouldn’t mind seeing DB end but whether its disrespectful will depend on what Toriyamas wishes were. Which I'm guessing he relayed privately to the staff? AFAIK, he wasn’t against GT being made was he? He came up with the title and did the initial character designs, so it’s fair to assume that he w...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Long dead and dormant classic manga/anime franchises have had revival runs before. Fist of the North Star, very famously, had a pretty huge revival run (comparable in terms of content scale to what Dragon Ball is currently undergoing) back in the mid-2000s (flush in the middle of Dragon Ball's dead...

Guillermo Del Toro expressed support for Roman Polanski in the past. Just thought I’d put that out there.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Do people who say "no not another tournament please" even know what Dragon Ball is about Tournaments are one thing, but I can’t comprehend what the appeal would be in seeing them recycle the Tournament of Power concept again. People really want to keep seeing the same thing over and over ...

Re: Justin Chatwin apologizes for Dragonball Evolution
He has nothing to apologize for. He was just an actor who needed a paycheck. It’s still nice that he paid his condolences though.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
I can’t think of anything more tedious than another Tournament of Power. That sounds like a nightmare. Are people actually clamoring for that? What would even be the point? Just so we could see some fighters from the other four universes that we have no reason to care about? What would be the stakes...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
But these aren’t used to tell a fun DB story, there is no adventure where Goku explores the DB multiverse, God ki is never expanded upon, and the story feels incredibly stagnant from one arc to the next. Its stuck in a cycle where essentially a bad guy shows up then Goku and Vegeta fight him then t...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
The only arcs in the original manga that can properly be considered adventure stories are the initial arc and the Red Ribbon Army, and the latter is basically a hybrid.

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
On the subject of Star Wars, George Lucas had been a controversial figure among the fanbase since the late 90s. The prequels were a major punching bag back in the day, and Lucas was a frequent subject of ridicule by RedLetterMedia. A lot of fans actually preferred the creatives behind expanded unive...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.
Is it just me or did Stan Lee not even get this big of a reaction after his passing? I never thought Akira Toriyama's death would impact people more than the guy who helped create Spider-Man and revolutionize Marvel overall. I remember Stan Lee’s passing being a pretty big deal, to the point where ...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"
Dragon Ball is all fiction so the debates about “canon” are a bit pointless. I don’t think Shuiesha or Toei care nearly as much about what qualifies as “canon” as fans in the West do. Neither the anime nor the manga versions of DBS have strictly followed the original manga. They’ve pulled stuff from...

Re: Dragon Ball Without Its Creator
I think Super was already on its way out. It’s been apparent for a couple of years now that there hadn’t been any active plans to bring the anime back, and I don’t know how much longer the manga can get stretched out. In terms of what the future of the franchise may hold, I would not be surprised if...

Re: Your watching experience on Toonami
I learned about the series through Toonami. Nothing fancy. I wasn’t remotely aware of all the changes that had been made to the show via the English dub, or even that the show was from Japan. I did notice that there seemed to be a change in the voices and presentation of the show after a certain poi...

Something something “Somehow Zamasu returned.”
I don’t see what else you could do with that character. His story was wrapped up pretty conclusively.

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
Alright, look, perhaps “strategy” wasn’t the best word to use. My initial point was only ever that being a “good fighter” doesn’t really matter in Dragon Ball, because more often than not, having a high power level trumps actual fighting skill. Freeza or Raditz not being “skilled fighters,” makes ve...

Re: Freeza shouldn’t have been a transforming villain
I mean yeah except for literally the entire series. Fights in the later parts of Dragon Ball are flashy light shows where the winner is the one with the higher power level. I wouldn’t really call that “martial arts.” The fighting is too simplistic. There’s not really any sense that skill or strateg...
