Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

I don't understand why those who hated FUNimation's 1999-2003 DBZ dub (or their Ultimate Uncut dub from 2005) don't want a redub of the entire DBZ series. I'm sure they do, but they're in the minority, I'd go as far as to say the vast minority. I think the fact we've had so many threads about a red...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy

If people want an English dub that uses the correct pronunciation the only options available or that they will almost certainly ever have are the Filipino Creative Corp Product dub and the Big Green dub of the GT special. The former was pre-Funimation and the latter ironically was probably Pan's act...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

Actually, no, I agree the situations seem SIMILAR but there is a huge difference. What the Netflix Evangelion does IS NOT BEING FAITHFUL. It is just putting the sub lines with ZERO adaptation onto a dub, which SEEMS more faithful but actually isnt. And Demon Rin, a great user here and Twitter User ...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

I think anyone who is hoping for this pipe dream should look to the Netflix dub of Evangelion. Its more faithful than the ADV dub in every way, but most people who want that will just watch it in Japanese and most fans who want it dubbed are content with the old ADV dub. There was literally no perce...

Has it ever been confirmed why the Bang Zoom dub of Super was cancelled?

I always refer to TheBlackPaladin 's word that there was trouble behind the scenes: For whatever it's worth, I'm friends/friendly acquaintances in real life with a few of the actors involved in the Bang-Zoom dub, as I'm an LA-based voice actor myself (albeit not a famous one, as my work is mostly co...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

It wouldn't be necessary, because, as stated unlike the Sailor Moon example Dragon Ball Z has a complete, uncut English dub. Even with its flaws it satisfies what the vast majority of fans want in an English dub, that much is clear because its so adamantly defended to this day. TOEI are not going to...

Re: Your favorite animators and their styles.

Tate Naoki and his work on Dragon Ball Super: Broli is easily my favorite in the franchise. The drawings are kept simple and cute, but still really depict the characters' muscles really well, while also focusing on the timing of each drawing. The manner in which his characters move have so much per...

Re: Your favorite animators and their styles.

I'm quite the Yuya Takahashi fan, he's admitted to have grown up loving Dragon Ball, and it shows because his animation has that old school feel: https://i.imgur.com/PL2nqPK.jpg I love that shading and being detailed while not to the extent as Tadayoshi Yamamuro that it becomes too rigid. We've also...

Re: Dragonball Evolution 15th Anniversary

I would say the reason Super went into production was the unexpected success of Resurrection F at the Japanese box office beating the current installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise at the time. Fuji TV needed a show to fill Kai The Final Chapter's timeslot on Sunday mornings and Toriko wa...

Re: Dragonball Evolution 15th Anniversary

I doubt a mediocre movie was the reason why 2x2 decided to get the show's rights from DeAgostini. I mean in terms of building interest in the show. From what I've heard people in Russia were familiar with the look of Dragon Ball from magazines and some of the video games, but weren't that familiar ...

Re: DBZ's TV Ratings reign is over.

Dragon Ball and Toonami are an iconic duo, it's bound to almost always be their best performing show. I'd also argue contrary to popular belief the former helped the latter far more than the latter helped the former. We can only look to the UK as an example of what happens when Toonami gets rid of a...

Re: Dragonball Evolution 15th Anniversary

Personally, I think that the only good thing that came out of the film were the dubs Nice one, while I consider myself a fan of dubs and think the practice deserves to be appreciated more as an art form in of itself I haven't delved into any live action stuff. Only exception is a few clips I checke...

Re: Justin Chatwin apologizes for Dragonball Evolution

I can't find the video anywhere but I do remember Justin Chatwin was asked about an Evolution sequel in one interview and his response was something along the lines of "God no, its like this joke that will never go away that we were part of that movie". So by the sounds of things Chatwin a...

Re: The Original Movie 14.

I definitely prefer the movie we got, it has Toriyama's charm, Watanabe's original plan just sounds dull, dark for the sake of being dark and like something out of a crappy fanfiction. The 12 universe reveal also brought back the sense of adventure that we wouldn't have got from the movie TOEI plann...

Re: Justin Chatwin apologizes for Dragonball Evolution

Is the “As early as 2011” in your post a typo? Evolution was released mid-2009 so if the 2011 is date, then it wasn’t in development until long after DBE and Akira Toriyama could’ve indeed been there from the start. I was talking about Battle of Gods . As stated in the above interview : I think it ...

Re: Justin Chatwin apologizes for Dragonball Evolution

Wasn’t this poorly received movie one of the main reasons why Akira decided to take more control of the franchise and write more? Leading to the BoG film , DBS and so on? If yes, Dragon Ball would look very differently today had Evolution not existed. Speaking about Evolution on its own merits, no,...

Re: What's the video source for DBZ on BD from Kazé in Germany? Anyone has screen captures of SV and DBZ 30A BD releases

I am not sure it's a good thing. The 30th anniversary discs apparantly look worse than SV's upscale? Granted, I haven't compared myself. Maybe not, but if what Ajay said is true and Manga UK could only release the 2013/14 or 30th anniversary Blu-Rays they picked the lesser of two evils. Their relea...

Re: What's the video source for DBZ on BD from Kazé in Germany? Anyone has screen captures of SV and DBZ 30A BD releases

It's also weird that CR, who took over FUNimation wouldn't be using the 30A BD set that FUNimation released that I believe CR releases in the United States... Not anymore, it appears Funimation wanted to keep the 30th anniversary discs limited edition exclusives in the US. They rereleased them on t...

Germany got Dragon Box masters for their DVDs right? Probably Kazé's own upscale of those or imported pre-upsxaled video tracks from Selecta Vision.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 14; Still Unreleased

I guess the proportion between Calgary and Vancouver in the cast is more varied than I thought. Maybe we can also expect the new Krillin being from Calgary... well, when this dub gets released... I think the majority of the cast is from Vancouver because this Kai dub is primarily a production of Oc...
