It would've been cool if we tackled the Moro and Granolah arcs as dedicated movies.
Both arcs work better as part of a series. I'm hoping whenever Super returns both are adapted, and maybe a brief retelling of Broly and Super Hero before telling new stories.

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

Ah, that's disappointing. Would be terribly ironic if FUNi wound up having a superior Kai dub to Ocean. I really, honestly wish there was effort put into just one "ultra-pure" English dub that had the most fitting possible voices and script with no music changes. Just a wholesale "what we could hav...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

Makes me want to hear Ocean Kai to hear how the redub fared. Not that the Ocean crew needed time to improve considering they were always professionals, so I don't think it'd be as qualitatively better as the FUNi Kai dub, but hearing them stop treating it like an 80s Saturday morning cartoon and ac...

Re: DBZ Remastered Dub

It definitely still exists, and in fact, this was the original pitch and plan for the Rock the Dragon set. It would have been a generally-available DVD release covering the entire original broadcast dub; Ocean 1-53, Funimation 54-276, all as-aired on their first run. That would have been the ideal ...

Re: Long Live Chris Ayres

Was Broly really the last time he voiced the character? Yes it was. Daman Mills was Freeza in Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, so it seems that after Super Broly Funimation was prepared for the inevitable where Mills would be in the role fully. I have to say when Mills started off about halfway into episode ...

Re: Who Commissioned the kid friendly Super Funi dub?

It was most likely Funimation, they always do TV-safe edits of their dubs as a backup in case no network is interested in the uncut version. Chris Sabat said on one occasion they also have a kid friendly version of Kai TFC, which hasn't been released as no broadcasters have been interested. I don't ...

Re: DBZ Remastered Dub

The Funimation cast redoing their old work is a great idea on paper, but the only thing that actually improved in the "Remastered dub" is some of the line delivery, which ends up being a downside if you ask me, since at least in the original dub it was uniformly bad and you could appreciate it on t...

Re: Long Live Chris Ayres

And Ayres also played Frieza in DBS Broly with no assistance, which I believe was his final role. Apparently, Ayers the LEGEND had to bring oxygen tanks into the recording studio to recite his lines, and he still did a fantastic job. Not only that, in doing so he was also working with less than 50%...

Re: Long Live Chris Ayres

Devastating news. As has been said Ayres was not only perfectly cast as Freeza, but he was also a great guy, so full of life and humour. To Chris Ayres, wherever you are now, your work as Freeza in Kai, Super, and the last two movies will forever be cherished. We thank you for all of it, and how you...

Re: Dragon Ball series in China?

I don't know much about the Anime series in mainland China. Original Dragon Ball was dubbed and it seems to have been broadcast on local TV channels, but I think that's it when it comes to TV broadcasts. TV broadcasting in China is probably too strict for the DB series. There have been a lot of hom...

Re: Dragon Ball series in China?

Thanks for the detailed and informative response Kei17 , knew I could count on you  Have you heard anything about Chinese broadcasts of the anime? I know some Chinese language dubs (Mandarin and Cantonese specifically) aired in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but haven't heard anything about airings ...

Dragon Ball series in China?

Something I've always wondered about is Dragon Ball's history in China. Considering it's loosely based off a Chinese legend, and China itself is a close neighbour of Japan I thought it would be likely there would be plenty of material produced for the Chinese market. So far I'm aware of the followin...

Re: So...Gokuism. Your thoughts on it?

I knew that Dao of DB guy since 2012. He is in the crowd that takes Dragon Ball waaaaay too seriously, and obsessed with overanalysiing the most atypical Dragon Ball Arc being Cell Saga, where everything is dark and cool and Goku is viewed as both this Buddhist/Taoist martial artist AND most Americ...

Re: My dream Dragon Ball home release

So, my perfect release is just simply one done by Toei without the under the swamp filter and without DNR. Dubs, etc. are secondary because at this point, the fans have gotten damned good at stitching together a decent product out of necessity. Get a great video release and you can stick whatever d...

Re: My dream Dragon Ball home release

Honestly if Funimation didn't lose the license over the whole outtakes scandal (and for the record even back when it happened I didn't think they would lose it) I don't think they ever will. It would have to take a huge buyout from someone like Disney, or as has been said Amazon (possibly not Netfli...

Re: Why does the OG Dragon Ball gets so little love from TOEI / BANDAI etc

Sadly international license holders don't have a lot of faith in it. While the BLT dub was a thing, Funimation really wanted Z back when they first got the license, thinking the action and flashy stuff would be more appealing to western children, now it's so ingrained in the minds of your average pe...

Re: Stupidest thing Frieza has done

Up until Goku became the Super Saiyan, Freeza and his father were the two most powerful beings there were, barring Majin Buu and the Destroyer. No one else was anywhere near being able to actually challenge him. I was never a fan of King Cold telling Freeza not to fight Majin Boo or Beerus, both sh...

I hate to be that guy, but it was actually 6th March 2000 . No worries man, corrected my error just there  All things considered I think it's very very unlikely it aired here prior to Cartoon Network in 2000. The thing about the British Comedy Network just sounds really bizarre and unlikel...

Re: Stupidest thing Frieza has done

Not making sure to destroy every last ship he could find on Namek. It would have been very much in-character just to satisfy his ego that it was he who outsmarted the legendary Super Saiyan, not the other way around. The reveal that Goku was still alive and that he would return home after doing some...
