Re: Why does the OG Dragon Ball gets so little love from TOEI / BANDAI etc

Sadly international license holders don't have a lot of faith in it. While the BLT dub was a thing, Funimation really wanted Z back when they first got the license, thinking the action and flashy stuff would be more appealing to western children, now it's so ingrained in the minds of your average pe...

Re: Stupidest thing Frieza has done

Up until Goku became the Super Saiyan, Freeza and his father were the two most powerful beings there were, barring Majin Buu and the Destroyer. No one else was anywhere near being able to actually challenge him. I was never a fan of King Cold telling Freeza not to fight Majin Boo or Beerus, both sh...

Re: Did Dragon Ball air in the UK in the 90s?

I hate to be that guy, but it was actually 6th March 2000 . No worries man, corrected my error just there  All things considered I think it's very very unlikely it aired here prior to Cartoon Network in 2000. The thing about the British Comedy Network just sounds really bizarre and unlikel...

Re: Stupidest thing Frieza has done

Not making sure to destroy every last ship he could find on Namek. It would have been very much in-character just to satisfy his ego that it was he who outsmarted the legendary Super Saiyan, not the other way around. The reveal that Goku was still alive and that he would return home after doing some...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

That voice sounds nothing like Freeza at all  . Or even a good performance. If that’s the indicator of what Tokar was going to sound like I’d rather have Pauline Newstone reprise the role. Horribly miscast and not suited for Freeza but a good “Saturday Morning Cartoon evil alien villain”’ voi...

Re: Home video release ideas thread

The only recent examples that come to mind of a dub being "too expensive" to license are the Netflix dubs of Baki and Vinland Saga. The home media distributor, Sentai Filmworks, ended up dubbing these in-house for their Blu-Rays, instead of including the dubs produced by Netflix. Don't forget 'Fly ...

Did Dragon Ball air in the UK in the 90s?

This is a rumour that rears its head from time to time, but since we have a good few users from the UK here I thought it deserved its own dedicated topic. 6 March 2000 was the date Dragon Ball Z first aired on Cartoon Network UK. This is widely known as the series was a huge hit for them, and later ...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

GT is worse. Goku's mindless preaching about how to be a good person and light overcoming darkness is so forced and more out-of-character than anything the Z dub ever did to him.

Re: Home video release ideas thread

I get what your saying, that's why I suggested the Ocean edit of Z episodes 54-107 that only ever aired on YTV as a bridge between the Saban and Westwood dubs. It's more collectible because unlike the Funimation TV edit (which is mostly available on VHS, although there are small differences, so smal...

Re: Korean English Dub

Pekindaq has a copy . It's still buried in his collection and he hasn't found it. We don't even know whether it's something worth calling a "dub". https://i.imgur.com/gFl8b50m.png https://i.imgur.com/JItRuVHm.png https://i.imgur.com/4IdBuodl.png Hey, Kei . Thanks for the response. Re: Home video release ideas thread

I do think trying to include the Saban and in-house Z dubs would. It would also price a lot of people out of buying it, most likely. I would save those for their own sets and ideally provide those releases with their own retrospective material. It is a shame that since outsourcing Kai's TV edits Fu...

Re: Do You Have a Different Favorite Arc than You've Had in the Past?

My favourite arc used to be the Androids/Cell arc when I was a kid. I liked that it was the conclusion to Gohan's journey, which also served as a perfectly fine jumping-on point of his journey for anyone who missed the past couple of arcs, I liked how large-scale it was, I liked that it ran the gam...

Re: Home video release ideas thread

FUNimation got the Harmony Gold material in 1994. It doesn’t mean they still have them or that they are in presentable condition. I doubt preserving it was ever on their minds. Fair, although luckily all that Harmony Gold dubbed has been found, so if Funimation no longer has the original masters th...

Re: Home video release ideas thread

For the Lost Dubs collections I'd suggest making 'Dragon Ball (Part Two)' the second volume, with 'Dragon Ball Z (Part One') as the third volume, as there's more dubs out there that could make great additions to the collection: Harmony Gold dub of episodes 1-5 + the movies 1 & 3 feature : some users...

Korean English Dub

Kei17 once alluded to this. Has anyone else ever heard anything about it? Considering Kei is the most reliable source of information on this franchise, I'm inclined to believe this thing is or was real. All that is known is the first few episodes of Z were released on VHS for purely educational pur...

Re: Things you've noticed that are different from region to region

South Africa: Originally got the same Funimation home releases and DVD/VHS singles across major stores (similar to Australia and NZ but I'm not sure if it was through Funimation directly or another distributor) however, somewhere along the line that distribution appeared to stop. It seemed that the...

Re: If USA had Toonami, Canada had YTV (Dragon Ball On YTV memorial)

Sometimes i'm jealous of Canadians because of all the great shows aired on YTV, sometimes they would even get stuff that the US wouldn't get, like the last 8 episodes of Knights of the Zodiac(and they were the only western channel to air Looney Tunes completely uncensored). It's criminal that 11 ye...

Re: If USA had Toonami, Canada had YTV (Dragon Ball On YTV memorial)

The US did get the Harmony Gold dub though, so I guess it helped that Dragon Ball was already somewhat known by 1995, so kids then would have heard about it from older kids and teens and had an idea what to expect. Like 5 episodes ran for one week in Philadelphia and Detroit. I doubt next to anyone...

Re: If USA had Toonami, Canada had YTV (Dragon Ball On YTV memorial)

Ah, I get ya. Sorry for misunderstanding. From what I've seen there seems to be less known about the YTV airings of the BLT Dragon Ball dub than the US airings, so I'm guessing it was less popular in Canada than the US. The US did get the Harmony Gold dub though, so I guess it helped that Dragon Bal...

Re: If USA had Toonami, Canada had YTV (Dragon Ball On YTV memorial)

I lived in Canada for 8 months, and I never got the impression Dragon Ball was any less popular there than other English-speaking countries, including the US, quite the contrary. I've been back to the Great White North two times in the last 5 years and Dragon Ball DVDs and merchandise are quite easy...
