Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

Honestly, a replacement score would've been just fine for Dragon Ball in the 90s if FUNimation were fully on board with making it like a 1970s kung fu flick first and foremost. They could easily have gotten away with introducing electronic and rock aspects to it because it's not like that's somethi...

Re: I really hate Beerus arc

The fact Super started with those two is what led to the series being so maligned up until roughly midway through the Tournament of Power, right around the time we got to see Jiren in action. It's not that Super was particularly good or anything, but I think we'd perceive it better if episode 1 were...

people and can only see the error of their ways when they're gonna die like Bardock Not even that. My memory's atrocious and I don't recall if I wrote it in my post (and I'm too lazy to check at the moment), but the gist of Bardock's story was that he was a common Saiyan henchman through and throug...

Re: How did you come to know about dragonball?

Saw it around midnight on Toonami some time in 2001 or 2002. Boo had just been released. From that, all I remember was him referring to himself in the first person constantly (to the point I could have sworn that the only thing he could say was "Boo" like a Pokemon), I absolutely didn't care for it ...

Tradition.

Nerd culture in the West has embraced the 1998-2003 dub and will viciously defend their nostalgia, so FUNimation won't change it.

Re: Why you should thank TheCW, rethink 4kids, curse Saban and HATE LITTON.

By 2010, it was a different situation from the 1990s. Dragon Ball Z was already well established by the time the Toonzai edit came around. It's like getting into Star Wars through Lucas's edits of the original trilogy in the '90s and '00s. Especially considering different versions are so readily ava...

Re: A couple or one sided romance?

I think Caulifla is a little dense when it comes to romance but if she knew how Kale felt she'd happily reciprocate. "Oh, wow, why would a girl with your prospects like me?" This. Though, at the same time, I'm fairly certain that Caulifla's density to romance isn't exactly unique considering what S...

Re: Jiren an antagonist of the 80s

I dunno, I always saw him as kind of a parody of one of the core ideas of the franchise as of late, that being that one's power level is the only metric by which they have value as a fighter and character. Jiren takes this to the extreme, being solely defined by his ludicrously immense power level ...

Re: How much do you think Gine impacted the Story ?

Thing is, it might've been a Sparta situation where the Saiyans themselves promoted such a viewpoint to give themselves a more fearsome reputation. Of course a Proud Warrior Race would want the universe to fear them and see them as barbaric savages that kill everything that moves. In reality, if th...

Re: How much do you think Gine impacted the Story ?

The same reason Toriyama is trying so hard to make Goku an unlikable protagonist. I wouldn't even say Goku is a good saiyan currently, he loves to fight and luckly he bullies the bully. As long as a villian promised a good fight he'd willing put lives at stake. He's not trying, though. That's how S...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

I didn't want to post in this thread because I have no idea for an ideal DB sequel; I've been more concerned about how I might write my own DB ripoff inspired story. But if I had to think of a DB sequel, I'd want an anime adaptation of Dragon Ball Online. Entirely new protagonists and antagonists, b...

Re: Why was Broli's strongest form in DBS movie form called Full Power Super Saiyajin?

One reminder: The original Broly never actually had a form called "Legendary Super Saiyan." That's more of a retroactive name. At the time, it was just "Super Saiyan Broly", with the implication that his form was something different. What's more, movie 8 even outright had Broly state that he reached...

Re: Genki-powered Saiyan?

We got a similar scene in Super. In fact, the closest thing to a "False Super Saiyan Blue" yet, when Trunks absorbed the Genki Dama https://i.imgur.com/lRkq1Qn.png It's almost a shame to me that this was instead more focused on his sword. Almost. Because it half-answered a thought I had: "Could Son ...

Re: What are people’s thoughts on how increasingly “normal” the world of Dragon Ball became?

Except it wasn't really a modern society, though. It's always been an overtly sci-fi world— filled with hover-cars, hover-bikes, capsules that can shrink larger items, futuristic buildings, artificial humans and cyborgs, and more. It was just an incredibly 80s-fied futuristic world; and 80s-fied fu...

Re: What are people’s thoughts on how increasingly “normal” the world of Dragon Ball became?

I think it represents a noticeable shift in DB's tone. It originated as a comic fantasy with its roots in the Asian myth Journey to the West, where the world was a fantastic mix of modern society co-existing with all sorts of mystical beings (talking cats, ogres, mermaids, an afterlife, and of cour...

Re: Would Current Base Goku & Vegeta Make It Far In GT?

It's been stated in some guidebooks (not the most authoritative source, but better than anything else we have) that SS4 Goku was about on par with Super Vegetto. https://i.imgur.com/GDkuwdA.gif Yeah, definitely on par, lol. There is one thing more authoritative than any other source, especially non...

Re: The Dragonball Misinformation Thread.

I remember hearing that the Perfect Files do contradict the show in one or two places, though; the ice evil dragon states himself to have been born from one wish in the show, but the Perfect Files list a different one. Though I'm not sure if this is just a dub error; been a while since I saw the Ev...

Re: The Dragonball Misinformation Thread.

One of the earliest I can remember, way back from the early 2000s when I first got into the fandom and have seen repeated as recently as earlier this decade: "Super Saiyan is based on the legend of the Golden Warrior" I forget the site where I first read it, other than that this was around 2004. And...
