Re: I've created a guide to the continuities of Dragon Ball

Ok, here's my take, but be warned: This is about to get real convoluted! ° Future Trunks timeline: Dragon Ball/Z (up until the Freezas arc), Movie 5, Movie 6, the TV Special, episode 191. ° Expanded Toriyama/Toei timeline, where Cell never ever appears: Dragon Ball/Z (since Cell has never arrived, t...

Re: Who are the top 5 most important characters in DB-DBZ-DBS?

Well, from the whole franchise:

1. Bulma
2. Goku
3. Grampa Gohan
4. Kid Gohan
5. Piccoro

Without Bulma there would be no Dragon Ball story, and the Dragon Balls were made by Kami, Piccoros God half, and Grampa Gohan shaped Gokus essential motivation and drive to this day.

Re: Are Arcs/Sagas written and/or made post-Cell weaker than what came previously?

And Gokus got all his development since... Well, arguably the first Tenkaichi tournament. That's a long time. But not really. I mean a key part of Goku’s character arc in the Saiyan and Namek sagas was accepting his Saiyan heritage. Saying he got all his development by the first tournament is blata...

Re: Are Arcs/Sagas written and/or made post-Cell weaker than what came previously?

Goku isn't a dynamic character in that he doesn't change, but that doesn't mean he's not interesting. Change isn't inherently interesting even if it sometimes seems that way. Execution is everything. I agree. It's why when Toriyama was writing him he got the nuances right. Whoever's writing Super j...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

The above post does bring a great point, so I'll clarify. I don't think he's uninteresting or one-dimensional, per se, but rather that his personality, which is in comparison to most of the newer characters in the story from Freeza-onward more sophisticated, can only be present for a while before he...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

If the only way to give other characters focus is to take the main character out of action, then the story isn't that interesting because the characters aren't that interesting. Usually it's the other way around. This happens quite regularly in shonen, especially in One Piece which I've just mentio...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I actually liked when Goku was out of the action, especially during the Cell saga, where there was some tension (such that there could be one) about Gokus life and such. And again, it was great because other characters got to be spotlighted, like Krillin, Tien, Vegeta and his ego, Trunks and Piccoro...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Your Favorite Anime Ever?

Probably. Although, if I'm honest, One Piece might edge it out in terms of consistency based on plot and characterization, but I can't deny that the story of a monkey boy who grows to be the strongest person in the world while looking for the Dragon Balls is always gonna be too, even if it's not alw...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Super Dragonball Heroes, in most of its variations, is better than GT, Super and all films in this decade. I mean, as a terribly-balanced 5-10 minute advertisement for the video game, it serves its purpose as an OVA series not meant to be taken seriously outside of being said advertisement, it prob...

Re: Are Arcs/Sagas written and/or made post-Cell weaker than what came previously?

I personally consider the Majin Buu & Goku Black (anime) sagas to be better than the Android/Cell arc overall, and the ToP (anime) & Baby sagas to be equal to it overall. Though I would say the Android/Cell saga is better than literally every other arc that came after it besides those 4. Ma...

Are Arcs/Sagas written and/or made post-Cell weaker than what came previously?

Hello, first time poster, wanted to say how wonderful it is to finally be in a Dragon Ball community where I can nerd out about my favorite anime of all time! Anyway, personally, as flawed as Cell saga it was, it was also perfectly consistent with what came before, the escalation worked well and the...
