Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray

So, finally, the broadcast audio situation comes to a conclusion that isn't just endless drama.

Now, how can I petition MangaUK or Funimation UK or Crunchyroll UK or whoever the fuck it is to import this to the UK with English subs!

Re: Dragon Ball Z Subtitled in Japanese Uploaded to Crunchyroll and VRV

It's only stretched to widescreen after 253, though allegedly there is the odd episode before that that uses Orange Brick footage. The dub is also exclusively Season Set footage (though I'm not sure if it's the Season BDs or the Orange Bricks). Glad to hear it. The odd episode being Bricks isn't gr...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Subtitled in Japanese Uploaded to Crunchyroll and VRV

So, to get this all straight... DB and GT use footage from the Season sets Z uses Dragon Box footage, but stretched to widescreen Some episodes are missing on VRV, but they're all there on Crunchyroll Only the US and some other territories have this; the UK doesn't have any of it unless you use a VP...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation

It's worth nothing that Kineko didn't actually do any restoration yet, they just scanned and cropped it. Shouldn't there be loads of very obvious tape marks on shot changes if no restoration was carried out? I know for the TV show, they would basically glue or tape each shot together after its film...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation

Not sure if this counts as piracy or not since it's only part of the movie and it's literally the only way to see it like this, but the full reel was uploaded to the Internet Archive. It's quite something. (link removed) Ooh, lovely! I do love being wrong in cases such as these. Thanks for sharing!...

Re: Looking for Information About the Making of the Dragon Box DVDs

Here's what I can tell you, from memory of my various conversations with people who've done the research... Toei sent basically all their film materials for Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT to Pony Canyon in about 2003. (I'm pretty sure other shows were in this lot too, but ...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation

I hope the owner of this specific (DBZ movie 9) film print allows it to be released publicly. And I hope that a lot more collectors that are out there, that have this stuff come out and ask Kineko Video to scan there film. It's possible in the future that we could have a small collection of good 4K...

I'd be interested in seeing some comparison images between this transfer and Toei's widescreen HD version. Maybe Funi's HD version too, for kicks. https://i.imgur.com/4nudVDN.png https://i.imgur.com/xW2iNBd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/t7PHuSV.png https://i.imgur.com/0JaAoM4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/T4QE...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation

That's cool. Though, don't get too excited; these guys did transfers of some episodes of OG DB well over a year ago which have yet to see the light of day outside of the odd clip or screenshot. Apparently the known troll Enigmo is their chief colour corrector (or was), and that guy is sort of known ...

Re: Do You Prefer Reading The Manga In Color Or BW?

If I had the choice, I would read it as it was originally published in Japan in Jump and the Kanzenban volumes; all the originally black and white chapters in black and white, all the partial colour chapters in partial colour, and all the full colour chapters in full colour. Unfortunately, there is ...

Re: so uhh Sony threw away funimations dragon ball film

Didn't Funi apparently sell off or give away the film copies of OG DB they had at some point in the last decade or so? Seeing as how eps 1-28 had a different source on the season sets compared to 29 onward which more or less just used the tape transfers (albeit with noise reduction/zooming) that ha...

Re: Everything we know about the Animax English dub of Dragon Ball

This is a fascinating topic. Do we have any clips or anything regarding the dub so we have an idea on how it sounded, perhaps? All we have is a three-second clip from Russell Wait's voice reel: https://youtu.be/5eTVLvvWlys?t=37 All we can ascertain is that Russell Wait did his martial arts noises i...

Re: your definition of the "definitive" DBZ home release

Two options, depending on my mood: 1. Either a 1080p Funimation transfer of DB (if it exists) or their original standard def transfer from the 90s/00s, Funimation's 1080p transfer of DBZ colour corrected by Steve Franko in 2011, and cleaned up in 2013, and the Dragon Box transfer of GT, in 4:3, no D...

Re: How Would you Rewrite the Piccolo Daimao arc?

Honestly, the only thing I'd change is to rework the magic water section. The anime actually did address this somewhat by making this into a quest Goku had to go on, which did him a lot of harm before it took effect, whereas the manga just had Karin give it to him. Not a perfect solution though. Act...

Re: japanese version of dbz with original colors

The Japanese TV broadcasts? They're not the original colours, they're basically untouched release prints from the original run that Fuji transferred to tape at some point, a while after they'd had some time to deteriorate (possibly during the '90s, possibly the early '00s, I'm not entirely sure). Th...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 11; Still Unreleased

It's possible like with Z, Funimation may have not provided Ocean with masters containing the Japanese score, although when Z was airing Funimation had their own reasons for sending the Faulconer Productions score, like having Ocean pay extra royalties to them, with Kai this obviously wouldn't have...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 11; Still Unreleased

It's worth noting that even today the English dubs of the Pokémon anime replace the music, simply because the Japanese studios charge a fortune for the music licensing. Apparently there was a brief time a few years ago when the original score was kept in the English versions of Pokémon because the p...

Now I don't know why this has only occurred to me now considering I've known about this dub for 10 years but I just realised an Ocean dub means another english version of Dragon Soul! I'm not really a fan of Vic Mignogna's singing voice (I think he's fine.. just lacks a lot of power) and this thoug...

May be a transfer of some film masters, may be derived from AB Groupe's masters. Visually it bears a similarity to Funimation's masters (transferred from film in Dallas in the 90s).

Re: Source of Rumor that FUNi's Early Z Masters "Came From Mexico"

Now, about the thread, if I'm not mistaken, at the 3 Vegetas pannel, Chris Sabat mentioned that the first international voice of Vegeta he heard was Rene Garcia's voice, because they did not have access to the episodes in japanese, they used the spanish dub. Yes, Sabat and others of the in-house Fu...
