I think he has a soft spot for Goten, who calls him "Uncle Vegeta" which I can't imagine him getting away with if Vegeta didn't like him on some level.

I completely agree that it's weird as all hell and I despise it. Regular timeline Trunks should, IMO, end up with Goten. As for Mirai Trunks, I'm not sure who he should end up with, but he deserves better than her.
