Re: New Dragon Ball Z Blu-Rays From Crunchyroll Coming August 1st

When the 30th anniversary set was announced, the entire collective Dragon Ball fandom dunked it and tore Funimation a new one. It became a PR fiasco for Funi so rather than considering it a step in the right direction or an improvement over what came before, they see it as an embarrassment and are s...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I assume it'd be alright to just post them on this thread. If not, someone can remove it later: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YN0fPuDT7FGuny9oUT1BuqGgoQEy9_YO?usp=sharing Thanks for sharing these. I attempted making my own custom cover art earlier this year but I wasn't happy with how the...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I forget which disc it was on but somewhere, there's an interview with the person who directed the remaster for the season set blu-rays and talking about that whole process.

Some of these bonus features they left in are hilariously outdated.

Re: Why hasn't Funi released the 2018 remastered movies yet?

It's worth noting we don't actually know for sure whether they used the Toei visuals for the Fathom screenings. A lot of people have speculated that this is what was shown, but no one was able to do a side-by-side comparison while in the cinema, exactly, so... It's just anecdotal "well it look...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Those raw footage screenshots came from a behind the scenes video on the level sets where they did show it in motion. You can find that video here. https://youtu.be/moAy02J2fd8 The raw footage starts at about 3:15. Now granted, I'm looking at compressed footage on youtube and not the whole untouched...

Re: Would Level Sets be more sucessfull if Funimation wait more?

Agreed. Price aside, the big killer for the Level Sets was the fact that it came out so close to Kai, itself an HD release of Z. I'm not sure how that happened, but I suspect it was a lack of communication between Funimation and Toei so that the former didn't know what the latter was doing. Kai had...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

My set came in yesterday and I just want to rant about the packaging for a bit because these things are horrible. The box the cases are kept in is awkward and bulky. They're larger than standard blu-ray/dvd cases so they can't sit on a shelf with them. The first book of discs came out of the box wit...

How much would you charge for just Dragon Ball Tournament Saga, Red Ribbon Army Saga and King Piccolo Saga Part 1?

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I am on the episode where Gohan turned into a Great Ape for the first time. The quality has been absolutely stunning honestly, like it's really good. Some things I have seen on YouTube looked kind of bad but I'm unsure if that's the compression or not but we shall see. My set hasn't come in yet but...

Re: Would Level Sets be more sucessfull if Funimation wait more?

I think in hindsight, had they waited until 2014 or 2015 when the new movies and Super started coming out, they may have sold better. Not that Funimation would know about those things in 2011 but still.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It's the generic guitar. Of course. And all they had to do to fix that was swap the audio tracks with the ones from the Dragon Box sets. Didn't they tweak the audio on the season set Blu rays? They probably think that audio is superior so just went with that I thought that was just for the Japanese...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

To anyone that has their set already. Does the dub with Kikuchi audio track use Cha-La Head Cha-La for the OP animation or is it that generic guitar instrumental track? The season sets apparently had the guitar track even though the Dragon Boxes got it right. It's the generic guitar. Of course. And...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Personally I think artwork used for previous packaging is fine because that's nostalgic in its own way (like Goku charging the Kamehameha all the way back on the first VHS, or the amazing art for the OG Dragon Box). Screengrabs through doesn't make any sense unless they're cel scans, which the OG D...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I would suggest not trash talking and insulting Funimation if you want to be taken seriously by them. The people on their customer support line had nothing to do with anything that went into this set and having to read through emails that treat them as incompetent is only going to make their jobs mi...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

So the 37 disc set that we paid $350 for and is limited to 6,000 copies comes in cardboard sleeves? Yeah no. What were they thinking there? I find that even more unacceptable than how the remaster looks. You are inevitably going to have a situation where somebody gets a scratched disc or three and d...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

However, Toei, or someone who actually cares, NEEDS to step in & force FUNi to actually make a home release worth a damn, or get another company to handle it. This is another problem. Toei isn't that "someone who actually cares". That's the company that did all of Boo Kai cropped and ...

First off, going with widescreen over standard definition was a must.

Re: FYE Announces Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick "Collector's" Box Set

Kai isn't, "MYYYYY CHILDHOOOODDDDD!!!!!" for the type of audience that would drop that kind of money, and the casual US fan also thinks Kai is the sissy kiddie version of DBZ. It's an impulse buy for people that don't know any better. Well I mean... Kai is what people have been watching o...
