Re: AB Video to release original Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray

From what i remember, AB used team Mirolo's audio edit, so presumably whatever edit team M has made, AB has it/will have it as well.

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Toei dont even have the film masters themselves. Pony Canyon has them who are notoriously reluctant to give access to camera negatives for remasters. Even Akira has had both of its remasters done from prints.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kai was done from an inter-positive or a first gen positive...

Yea if you use Topaz in default settings it doesn't. But this is a competent release.

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray

Speaking of Disco Tek, I kind of feel like they should of just done a SD Bluray using uncompressed Dragon Box footage and the main seller being the Broadcast audio and color correction. While the upscale is impressive it still has the pitfalls of the Dragon Box (the ghosting is this there tho a lit...

Solid upscale aside, they did an excellent job with the color correction, especially in the blown out episodes.

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray

Agreed. And, of course they'd be. FUNi have 3rd gen duplicated prints &, while the DBoxes are only in 480p, they're sourced from 1st gen masters from Toei's film stock. And even at 480p, those DBox masters are still better than FUNi's, it seems, especially with clean-up & color correction. ...

I'd be interested in seeing some comparison images between this transfer and Toei's widescreen HD version. Maybe Funi's HD version too, for kicks. https://i.imgur.com/4nudVDN.png https://i.imgur.com/xW2iNBd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/t7PHuSV.png https://i.imgur.com/0JaAoM4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/T4QE...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

What more "evidence" do I need when I HAVE the actual color chart? https://i.imgur.com/RuY2sT7.jpg We've been through this before, but studios picked their colors depending on the film stock they used, considering that each film stock captures color differently. The color charts you're re...

WOW, Rip, news have been talking about the murder for a few days now, but never mentioned any of her work. I didnt know it was She that voiced all those anime/cartoons that were brought over here.

Re: Isn’t It In Toei’s/Funimation’s Legal Right to Use The Original Broadcast Audio on Future Releases?

What’s really stopping Toei from downloading the leaked broadcast audio online and using it in their future releases? Don't they own the rights to that audio for all intents and purposes? The fact that way before the leak, the audio was taken to Toei which showed no interest whatsoever in using it.

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

With this one you are completely wrong, because the image on the left is one of those promotional HD scans that Toei usually share, this is an old analog scan which colors have been deteriorated over time and was recently digitally re-scanned. What you are seeing here is the deterioration of the co...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular

I'd just like to add to this conversation in support of Vanner, that all of those "cel scans"/ promotional material, was shot in 35mm film stock and it's not a proper digital cel scan. What you think as accurate colors may as well be something wrong itself considering the oversaturation an...

Re: Shunsuke Kikuchi vs other Contemporary Japanese Composers

As far as Kohei Tanaka is concerned, I checked out One Piece's score a few years ago and was thoroughly disappointed by how generic sounding it was (I know he works with another guy on One Piece so it's not all him). I listened to quite a bit of that score and it just did nothing for me, so based o...
