Re: Green Tint and the Japanese Blu-ray of Super Broly

So, I just watched the Japanese Blu-ray of Dragon Ball Super: Broly from Toei Video that I bought at a mall in Kyoto on my trip to Japan, and compared to the Dutch and FUNimation BDs, it is a revelation. Now, I had seen the FUNi BD when I rented it to show a friend at his place. His setup is tiny, w...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

FUNi probably has their remaster 90% complete at this point- internally, they're most likely starting work on the Blu-ray compression and authoring phase- if the timeline between authoring and release with other anime distributors also applies to FUNi, if they aren't they'd probably be behind schedu...

Re: Best looking Dragon Ball movie: The Path to Power or Super Broly?

Path to Power has the best cinematography and art direction, but lacks the impressive animation (movement) of Super Broly. Both are very nice looking movies, without a doubt, but I'd say best looking is Path to Power. But, as for best animated- Super Broly, without a doubt.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

They're gonna do a standard edition a year or two down the road. Guaranteed. The cost involved is way too much to settle for a limited set. Being the money hungry plebs they are, they'll justify it somehow.

More detail. Even if it isn't released in 4K, when you scan at a higher resolution, more detail is picked up.

Watch it end up being the current Season BDs in "collectible" packaging...

I hope I'm wrong, but with this being FUNi, or as I call them- FAILimation, anything goes.

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Given that Netflix now allows to download their shows and movies to be watched offline, are the NF versions of TOEI HD not somewhat superior to the AMZN ones? It's DRM'd but I guess in time that'll be unlocked (scene "warez" teams can and know how to). It's possible. Amazon's stream has b...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Not gonna lie, its pretty amusing reading replies that hope funimation will get the remasters and WONT run them thought their usual dnr/contrast filter chain  Funi doesn't mess with masters that aren't their own. Hmm... then how do you explain how they took Cowboy Bebop, removed ALL the grain,...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

At this point, the issue isn't the scan/initial transfer without any grading/enhancements- those are good. In fact, it's rare to find a movie/series with a bad scan- even Predator, with it's AWFUL Ultimate Hunter Edition had a great scan... which was then DNR'd to death. So the scanning or restorati...

Re: Funimation Remastering of Z - What did they do wrong?

I disagree that it's uncut. The top and bottom are cut out, so technically I'm not seeing the footage uncut. The episode just happens to run as long as the original uncut episode did. Therefore...0/10. You get what I meant, though. I'd give it a 0/10 in terms of PQ, but by "uncut", I mean...

Re: Funimation Remastering of Z - What did they do wrong?

Okay, let's break it down. You know about the cropping so let's skip that: The source- it's 16mm film, but a third generation copy. It's not terrible, but it has more grain than the first generation, and is less refined. DNR- it means to reduce noise in an image, but because a computer can't tell th...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

I'm not arguing that it's bad, or that it's not the best DB has ever look- because it is. What I'm saying is that, even if the Amazon streams didn't exist, there would still be some complaints. The DNR and edge-enhancement is easy for a videophile like me to spot, but that's because I've trained mys...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Okay, here's my thoughts. Why does movie 5 look like shit? Maybe it's the compressionist. See, the compressionist does video compression for the Blu-ray and has full control over how it looks. I say this, because this ISN'T the first time this has happened with an anime remaster. Bandai and Sunrise ...

Toei fucked up. Simply put.

These are beautiful remasters ruined by DNR. Do any of the other films have this level of noise reduction? I'm hoping this was a one-off thing...

This is the same company who took Sunrise’s beautiful Cowboy Bebop remaster and DNR’d it- removed ALL the grain, then smeared it, removing the detail, and THEN- applied a shitload of fake grain. They’re utter idiots.

But instead, you decided to Japanese Kai Buu saga massacre this release by DVNRing it and Sharping it. I know what they did with Boo Kai, but you put "Japanese" there to differentiate it. While the contents are different (more episodes in TFC), was there any visual difference to make you ...

Yeah I notice that too movie 5 looks funky idk almost like and upscale?(Maybe that's not right). Idk maybe it's just me I'll post some more shots later on in the day. Depends. What media player are you using? VLC has some issues and actually alters the image in colour and makes banding more visible...
