Re: How DBZ on Cartoon Network worked? Please help explain

They actually did resume showing DBZ weekly on Toonami from like 2005 all the way until Toonami was cancelled in 2008. Bizarrely, I remember them showing the Ultimate Uncut episodes with minimal edits and then like midway through the Saiyan saga they switched to the Ocean Dub. By the time Toonami w...

Re: "Happy" 20th Anniversary of FUNimation's DBZ Season 3 Dub!

I see. If it helps give some perspective, I wasn't actually allowed to watch DBZ as a kid. My folks just happened to have had THIS... https://www.bing.com/th?id=OIP.RCRz84aieAzG6TR0-QRuxgHaNM&pid=Api&rs=1 Be their first exposure to DBZ, and decide "nope. Re: "Happy" 20th Anniversary of FUNimation's DBZ Season 3 Dub!

You know, I get most of the sentiments expressed in this thread. I only have one question... What's everyone's deal with the music? I thought that, aside from the instruments themselves, it was an improvement in virtually every way! It's my favorite anime soundtrack to date; It's even inspired me t...

To lighten up this thread, here are the promos/bumpers that were leading up to and featured the big premiere on Cartoon Network (Toonami): The "coming soon" promos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnqQo7HhcSA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8LlX155X6I The "Z-Day" event promo which was when the new ...

Re: "Happy" 20th Anniversary of FUNimation's DBZ Season 3 Dub!

A dark day for the series. I don't think anything has ever done as much damage to the integrity of this franchise as the Funi dub did. In retrospect i feel kind of sad about the people who grew up with this version of DBZ. It robbed so many new fans of a far more accurate representation of the show...

Re: "Happy" 20th Anniversary of FUNimation's DBZ Season 3 Dub!

"Season 3" was a perfect embodiment of everything that has ever been wrong with Dragon Ball's treatment in the west. The cast that everyone had grown to love, thrown aside for convenience and penny pinching over paying people for voice-destroying screams, the music and voices replaced with cheap, r...

Re: You watched DBZ before DB and certain characters didn't make sense

In regards to your specific examples, there certainly were things to piece together, like who Karin was and why he lived in this tower that was really high in the air but below this other floating structure. The nature of Kami and Piccolo would be danced around a few times in the first two seasons ...

Re: What parts of the franchise evoke nostalgia for you?

For me in particular it would be the Trunks vs Cyborg Freeza/Android introduction episodes, seeing as those were literally the first bits of DBZ i remember watching on Toonami when i was six years old. Others of particular note were the dubs of Z movies 1-3 which was all i saw from the Ocean cast er...

Re: Future DB(Z) releases should be edited for it's painfully outdated LBTG+ content

No they shouldn't, we're talking about series that are over to just over thirty years old now. They should remain as they are even if some things presented in them (General Blue.etc) don't necessarily align with modern views on the same topics because retroactively censoring them does nothing, and w...

Re: Do you enjoy Complaining about/Discussing/Watching edited versions of DB?

I've got some old recorded episodes of Ocean and FUNi in house dubbed DBZ from Toonami way back in the day but rarely ever do i go back to watching them but only once in a great while. Given that the original uncut version is more than readily available and at my fingertips, both by way of the origi...

Re: Is it time GT gets recognized as an alternate timeline rather than just "not canon?"

The many changes thanks to super has Gt reduce to an alternative timeline by this point so stop trying to bring it back. This thread is THREE YEARS OLD man! Seconded, the topic hasn't been replied on (at least until now) since late 2016. Necro posting on a dormant thread isn't exactly approved of b...

Re: FYE Announces Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick "Collector's" Box Set

They definitely could be better, namely that the colours aren't even trying to be authentic, in particular the greens. I mean yeah they could certainly stand to be improved in those areas, but all in all i find them decent enough as is to own and watch the series as they're certainly way better tha...

Really dont think the blue bricks are that bad. Re: Vic Mignogna

Makes me surprised he would be involved with a series like Dragonball, which includes all kinds of magic, demons, and pagan gods... I recall way back in the early 2000's, when Pokemon was still in it's "bonanza/craze/blitz up the wazoo" days and got blasted regularly by some overconcerned individua...

Re: Vic Mignogna

Seems like Huber is kind of a nut himself. When he used to run a Catholic school, he'd tell his students to not read Harry Potter books because demons would possess them. He also thinks the Earth is flat. Good voice actor, but a nut. OMG, he actually believes something that was thought to be factua...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

I do have the matted versions with FUNi's feature packs, but i'm also gradually picking up the old singles to own all the movies in both fullscreen and widescreen mostly to have the choice of either whenever i am wanting to see the whole of the 4:3 picture or having it set in that cinematic form lik...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

I know it did but you guys are just going from fear. This is not the same company. It makes no sense they'd do the same. Just fear would make assume so. A lot of what Funimation did and does makes no sense either. Given the history of Dragon Ball home and streaming releases (which now includes Toei...

"Going with widescreen over standard definition was a must" You know because the level sets were not in widescreen but they were somehow not in standard definition either, how the hell did Funimation pull that off if they couldn't do it for the Season Blu-Rays two years later? If anyo...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

Well, the poll ended with 65% in favor of 4:3. Let's see what happens now. It comes out as 16:9 anyway. Which is exactly what happened when FUNi released the DBZ Season BD's, and as we know they put out a very similar poll to the one Selecta Vision did here many months prior to the release and appa...
